Terrific place to stay

Great stay
The property was immaculate and very well stocked, everything we could want was available and there were even treats provided. The donkeys were adorable and friendly. We had a beautiful morning hike in the hills walking among the saguaro and other cacti. It was a beautiful place to stay.

A Perfect Sonoran Retreat
Everything stated in this listing, and in the many five-star reviews, is 100% accurate. This casita and its location were ideal for our two week stay. We loved its address at the end of a dirt road. We loved seeing and hearing the donkeys out back every morning and evening. We appreciated the fact that everything in the Casita was nicely appointed and worked exactly the way it was supposed to work, i.e. the A/C, the grill, the shower, the dishwasher, the washer/dryer, etc. And did I mention that the backyard pool, fire pit, and lounging areas are simply lovely.... and relaxing. The owners were great to work with, and very friendly, but only "visible" when or if we wanted to see them. We would stay here in a heartbeat. Loved it.

Secluded yet coveniently located apartment
This was the perfect get away for the two of us. We flew in from KY and were happy to see lots of amenities in the kitchen and bathroom that we couldn’t bring with us on the plane. Everything was clean and nicely decorated and in good condition. The sheets and towels were good quality. The bed was a bit soft but didn’t keep us from a good nights sleep. The donkeys were cute and the pen was kept clean so even though they were close, there wasn't a smell. Their braying only happened occasionally during the day and it just made us laugh. The location was perfect for all the hiking that we did. Short drive to Sedona and Prescott where the terrain is different and beautiful. Daisy mountain was very close and very challenging. It was great to come and sit by the pool after a day of hiking, though a bit too cold to jump in. We ate in the apartment almost all of our meals except two. We followed their recommendation for El Encanto Dos and it was very good. In short, we loved this apartment and highly recommend it. Susan and Dan were great hosts and neighbors for the week.

Burros, pool, hot tub, desert hikes!
Very clean, well stocked, plushy casita. At the end of a short gravel road with the Sonoran desert at our doorstep. A welcome basket of snacks and comforts of home were an unexpected bonus! Probably the best VRBO we’ve stayed at- and we’ve traveled a lot in 10 yrs! Shopping only 5 miles away. Fire pit and outdoor viewing area for viewing sunsets. Very relaxing, away from the hustle & bustle of Phoenix! We’ll be back.

Peaceful Retreat w/Donkeys & Horses
Stay here! The online pictures are nice but don't do it justice. This place is immaculate and well decorated. A home away from home with all the amenities. Donkeys to welcome you. View from bedroom window amazing. Hiking right there. Away from the hustle & bustle of the city. Easy drive to Sedona, just 3 hours from Grand Canyon. We have stayed in VRBO's where we had to purchase toilet paper, etc. We purchased nothing...it was all here! Dan & Sue are lovely. Highly recommend.

Perfectly Welcoming
We have stayed with Susan and Dan at their Casita 3 times. Go, experience for yourself the tranquility, only broken at feeding time by happy donkeys. The place is as clean and well appointed as any a vacation renter could hope to find. This is how VRBO is supposed to be experienced. Check in and out is as easy as one could wish for. Above and Beyond!
We were completely blown away with the amenities this Casita offered! You literally need NOTHING but food since you have every single dish, utensils, cookware, spices, coffee, creamer, coffee, filters, dish soap, first aid kit, towels, toiletries, blankets, linens, board games, robes, pillows, Kleenex, etc. Seriously, the list goes on and on!! The amenities offered go well above and beyond all expectations imaginable! Susan and Dan are such gracious hosts and they are super accommodating. The donkeys are super adorable and so much fun to watch and feed carrots to. We had so much fun petting them and feeding them daily since it was just so cathartic. The wildlife was amazing to see since there were jackrabbits running all around and quite a bit of quail as well. Freda's Casita is just simply a favorite and we would most definitely return here again when we visit AZ again!!

40th birthday get away
The perfect home base for hiking, exploring and sight seeing. Everything you need is close by and there is no noise or lights from Phoenix. The host were amazing with communication and what things to go and do. The hike right outside the property was a wonderful way to end our stay there.

Amazing!
The casita was squeaky clean and beautifully decorated, with such special unexpected touches, such as water and snacks and little chocolates. Susan and Dan were the perfect hosts--super-responsive and so friendly when we had questions, but they respected our privacy. The property was just what we were hoping for, with little seating areas strategically placed so that we could enjoy our morning coffee and watch the sun rise over the desert and relax outside in the evening to watch the sun disappear. There are hiking trails out the door, and we followed one through quintessential desert terrain and to the top of a small hill we could see the casita in the distance. The donkeys kept us entertained. The property was ideally located, so that we were remote enough to see a sky full of stars (and even the Starlink satellite train--twice!), yet close enough that we were able to get to Sedona, Prescott, and Cave Creek during our all-too-short three-day stay. Can't say enough. 5 stars all around! Thank you, Susan and Dan!

Perfect
We were beyond pleased with the Casita, grounds and hosts. Susan and Dan were pleasant and helpful. I have been around folks that work with the BLM taming and caring for donkeys and horses. I haven’t seen a cleaner or more thoughtful set up.These folks are proud of their place and their work with the critters and it shows in every thoughtful detail. We booked our next stay within a week or so of our last! We are happy to be returning to Az to visit old and new friends. They have a friendly cat that is happy to show off his swimming pool late at night to guests seeking solace and starlight. The pool is divine at night and in the mornings. A bit too hot right now for midday enjoyment, but soon…

Fabulous desert oasis with every amenity!
Freda’s Casita is such an incredible vacation property. Beautifully decorated and appointed space spotlessly clean and in an idyllic rural setting with burros and horses in property. There is a lovely pool on site situated with cactus and mountain vistas so beautiful they almost seem like a movie backdrop. There is also a hot tub in a private courtyard space as well. The casita is situated within an easy drive of countless Arizona towns perfect for a day trip. We visited Prescott, Sedona, and Cave Creek during this visit and plan to visit Jerome, Cottonwood, and maybe Flagstaff on our next trip, The hosts, Susan and Dan, have thought of everything to make guests feel comfortable and pampered! Highly recommend!

Beautiful, clean, peaceful getaway / homebase north of PHX
This property is beautiful, clean, peaceful, private, and relaxing. Everything is modern, aesthetically pleasing, well-stocked, and immaculately kept. Susan and Dan are attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely kind hosts who went out of their way to make our stay perfect every step of the way. This property is 35 minutes north of PHX Sky Harbor International Airport; for anyone who wants the convenience of being close to PHX without actually being in it, this location is perfection. You get the quiet, relaxing vibes of the mountains and the desert, dark skies at night, and many hiking, climbing, and outdoor recreation opportunities nearby. The pool and private hot tub are wonderful. The animals on the property--burros and mustangs--are beautiful, and their quiet presence was unexpectedly soothing.

Feels like home
Frieda’s Casita is cozy, comfortable and feels just like home. Absolutely everything is provided and then some, from awesome bed, fluffy towels and fully stocked kitchen, to fuzzy robes and yummy snacks. We loved coming back to this place after exploring the trails or visiting downtown Phoenix. The casita borders public land and we went birdwatching out there. It’s easy to get to and super well-maintained. Hosts are responsive and hospitable. Loved our stay here!

Perfectly Off the Beaten Path
We have stayed in the Phoenix metro area several times, so were looking to get a little further out and see what “real life” is like…and this casita was the perfect place!! Great location if you are planning any trips north and fun local restaurants like The Roadrunner Saloon with real bullriding! Susan was a fantastic host and the casita is perfection. Lots of thoughtful items present like sunscreen (we always forget to pack it!) Super comfortable accommodations 1 we would definitely stay again!

A desert oasis!
We had the privilege of spending a week in this beautiful place. The space was beautifully decorated, so welcoming and exceeded our expectations! Being out in the desert was a special added bonus. I truly wanted to redecorate my house when we got home. Susan and Dan thought of every detail and we felt right at home. The donkeys that greeted us every day we’re a most welcomed bonus! A Perfect New River Oasis
We loved Susan and Dan's casita. They have thought of everything one could possibly need for a comfortable stay. For example, my husband was worried about having to find the washroom in the dark - I said, "Look in the drawer. I bet they have a flashlight there." Sure enough, both bedside tables had flashlights. I wasn't surprised at all. The casita is comfortable and elegant with a convenient kitchen and several eating areas. The pool is divine, especially on the 100 + degree AZ summer days. We spent most of our time just lounging by the pool and watching their donkeys play. The experience was wonderful as we had never met donkeys before, and they are delightful, gentle creatures! Susan and Dan are very kind and made us feel welcome without interrupting our privacy - they let you know they are there for anything you may need, but we still felt like we had the whole property to ourselves. They are a wonderful couple and excellent hosts. We hope to return. If you are reading this review wondering if you should book, don't hesitate, just do it! You will not regret your experience in New River at Freida's Casita!

Simply the best!
Best VRBO ever! Very unique property, serene, beautiful, welcoming, and better stocked with supplies than my own home! Beautifully remodeled 1br, awesome bathroom and shower, hot tub, pool, fire pit, grill, private patio. Bottom line is you feel like you are lost in the country, but you are only minutes from all the shopping and other amenities you could want down in Anthem. Sue and Dan are awesome and makes it feel like your little paradise. The horses, donkeys and of course Trigger (the lab) all add to the ambiance. They even provided a basket of treats which we enjoyed immensely! Thank you Sue and Dan for an awesome visit. Hope to see you guys again soon!

A Desert Oasis of Lush Comfort and Scenic Beauty
Freda's Casita is a beautiful treasure tucked on the edge of wild desert beauty and picturesque terrain. It is outside the chaos of the city, but a great launch point to many day adventures; atv rental (awesome!), shopping, yummy restaurants and beautiful destination drives (incl. wine tasting & Indian ruins). If you are looking for a place to rest, the casita and surroundings are tranquil and peaceful. The casista itself is lavishly appointed with many thoughtful amenities. It is exceptionally clean and beautifully furnished and decorated. The nearby, residing burros are sweet creatures. Dan and Susan are unparalled hosts. They are warm, gracious, friendly, patient and extremely attentive to their guest's needs (and their communication is excellent too). Freda's Casita is a slice of Eden in God's country. We will be back.

Anniversary Trip
What a pretty place! The weather was amazing and we loved sitting out back drinking coffee in the morning while the donkeys said hello! The extra special little things made it so inviting, from the luxury bathroom towels, to the basket of snacks, to the coffee and creamer. Very clean, beautifully decorated, we felt so at home. Even though the casita was attached to the main home, it was private and Susan and Dan were so friendly and welcoming, but very respectful of privacy. Even though we had to drive to see the sights, it was always nice to come back to The house! It was the perfect trip!!!

Peaceful and cozy guest house
This was the most well stocked and clean home we have ever stayed in. Sue thought of everything - and more! The views out back of the house were stunning, especially at sunrise. We loved watching and petting the donkeys and horses. The property was perfect- not far from the interstate yet peaceful and quiet away from town. It was a perfect stay to celebrate our anniversary!

A little slice of heaven!
We had the most wonderful stay at Freda’s Casita! The location was great and just beautiful, still a close drive to lots of restaurants and stores and to Phoenix as well, but up in the mountains and away from the city lights. You can sit in the hot tub in the small courtyard and look up at all the stars at night! The donkeys and mustangs on the property were adorable and friendly, and hosts Susan and Dan were so lovely and told us all sorts of interesting things about the animals! Instructions from Susan, as well as written info in the casita’s binder and communication through the VRBO app were clear and excellent. The casita inside is beautifully designed, modern, and organized, and Susan has truly thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and all the linens were high quality and soft. The hand soaps, body wash, lotion, etc provided all smelled so nice! I hope we get to come back and stay again soon!

Literally the best!
I cannot emphasize how great this property and it’s hosts are! My husband and I would live here if we could, and anytime we are ever back in Arizona we will absolutely be staying here. They have truly thought of everything on this property and it felt like home. I loved being away from the city, but still close enough to easily go anywhere in Phoenix. I especially loved being able to go hang out with the donkeys and horses on the property. You can tell they are very loved animals kept in an immaculately clean pin. Susan and Dan are wonderful, kind people and the perfect hosts. I highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the Phoenix, Sedona or surrounding areas!

Relaxing week at Freda’s Casita
Exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. The Casita was fresh and clean with all the amenities of home. We loved the private hot tub area and enjoyed barbecuing out there also. We took advantage of the great hiking trails with awesome views which are right off the driveway of the Casita. We took in a local bull riding event at the Roadrunner bar our first night, toured Sedona & the Grand Canyon, had some great dinners in Cave Creek, rented a Razor ATV in New River and spent a couple days lounging by the beautiful pool. We also loved spending time with the donkeys that Dan & Susan have adopted. We would definitely recommend Freda’s Casita & hope to return in the future.

Beauty in the desert

Perfect Getaway!!
A stay at Fredas Casita was just what I needed. The casita was far enough away from things that I could relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature but close enough to activities like horseback riding and hot air balloon rides that I could sprinkle in some adventure into my trip. Especially loved the ability to take morning hikes on the trails next to the property. Susan and Dan were great hosts and have created an oasis in the desert.

Great location for quiet, hiking and biking.
Freda’s is a great getaway and backs to state land so it’s nature out the door. The hosts took care of every need and responded quickly. We hiked and biked right into the desert from the front door. The best part was their burros - what personalities! They were like big dogs that needed attention. We will definitely be back! Thanks again.

Just What the Doctor Ordered
My husband and I stayed at Freda's Casita Jan. 3-9, 2021. It was our first visit to the area, and we loved it! It was so quiet and peaceful. It wasn't warm enough to swim, but the temperatures in January are perfect. We really didn't do too many activities, as I mainly just wanted to rest. We took a daytrip to Sedona. It's about an hour away and well worth the drive, even if you just go for lunch. Be sure to eat at El Encanto in Cave Creek to satisfy your Mexican craving. The donkeys (and Bravo the mustang) were a joy to spend time with. They are friendly, and they don't make much noise or smell bad. They are very well cared for, and now I want a donkey! You won't be disappointed in this property.
