Perfect Place

Great Place!

A True Cottage
We stayed for 2 weeks! Kim, the owner and host, was wonderful. The cottage was very clean and well stocked with everything we could possibly need. When I was looking to rent a place for 2 weeks, I was shocked at the prices on Houghton and Higgins lake. The Nothing Fancy house is affordable and a true cottage (with A/C) in the woods. There was ample parking for the many guest we had visiting. I am already booking again for September and possibly after the New Year.

Happy campers!!
Our group consisted of Mom, dad, 5 kids age range from 20 to 27. We had the best time here! Kim and her husband were both amazing folks, Kim stopped by to see if we needed anything. Her husband taught our son how to do the spoon fish method. We loved the barn house, the property is perfect and shaded and on the water. We fished, we rode the local trails on our dual sport bikes, we kayaked, we bbq'd, we had nightly bonfires, roasted hot dogs and made smores. We walked the trails on the property and we were very close to town, restaurant's, public Houghton Lake access and all the major stores!! We will be back!!

Nothing Fancy is the perfect name for this nothing fancy home
After booking the property, Kim gave me her number to reach out for any questions. A few days before check in i reached out, she answered any questions. She even sent me more photos than what were listed in the listing!. On check in day, she let me know the check in process which I relayed to my group. My dad and his wife arrived first and she introduced herself and gave the ins and outs of the property which my dad relayed that info to the rest of the group when we arrived. The house is extremely cute and cozy. Kim even turned the air on for us prior to arrival so it is cool inside. Kim lives in the home next door and was always there if we needed anything (wasn’t overbearing or nosey like some hosts can be when they live next to the property). We even found a phone in the river on our canoe trip and she brought over a bag of rice for us to dry the phone out! The river the barn was on is a fishing river but the kids and their parents went on the paddle boat and row boat to go fishing. The kids even jumped in the water to swim! There was nearly everything you need to stay in a home away from home (condiments, seasonings, extra towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap etc.). The home is very warm and inviting. I loved the cabin feel it had too! Definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a cute cozy place to stay that’s near Houghton or Higgins Lake.

Had a great weekend at the “Nothing Fancy” cabin. Kim and Bill our hosts were very nice people and treated us like we were old friends. The cabin was great and had the same amenities you would have at home. Everything was clean and fresh. Plenty of room to park. Little fishing lake was nice too. Clean and adorable cottage!
I really enjoyed my one night stay here. The owners were very responsive and the house is super clean and stocked with most things you need. The only thing I was a little disappointed in is that it’s not actually ON the water. It’s near the water but you have to walk through neighboring property to get to it. Still very pretty though. Would stay here again when it’s a little warmer and I can bring my kayaks.

Winter Wheeling Excursion
My friends and I do a couple winter off road adventures a year and this was our first time staying here. There was plenty of parking for our rigs and trailer. The house was very clean and has a pretty unique "up north" ambience too. Everyone in the group enjoyed their stay.

the house is so cute! Lots of cool decorations. The weather was excellent so we were able to sit outside from morning until bedtime. The owners took us for a guided Jeep tour. That was excellent! They also had canoes and a paddle boat. I can't wait to stay there again! I was even able to take all my dogs! I highly recommend staying here.
