This hotel was great for a short stay. The hotel itself lacks a 4star luxury feeling, but it has more of a small boutique hotel feel. It's also a great location. It's a walkable distance to the boardwalk/ocean front, which was nice. At night, the area was lively and safe. We walked around and even went to a few shops then came back and had a specialty coffee beverage at the hotel restaurant. If you choose to sit outside when you dine, the view is beautiful. Also, we received SPA treatment here which I thought was FANTASTIC. I did have to wait for my treatment for a long time, but I did not prebook. I chose the coffee scrub down, and it was excellent!

The Promenade is very conveniently located on the beachfront (Goubert Avenue). Many key tourist attractions like Sri Aurobindo ashram, Ganesha temple, Puducherry museum, French war memorial, old lighthouse etc. are all within walking distance. There are many eating and shopping options within short walking distance from the hotel. Taxis and auto rickshaws are easily available for slightly faraway attractions like Auroville. Service and food at the hotel is excellent and staff go out of the way to help the guests. Facility is a bit old though and it shows in the quality of fittings and furniture. This needs attention from hotel management. All in all, it was a very nice stay at The Promenade.

Great location. Hotel is in the front of the beach and easy access to Sri Aurobindo ashram. Staff are really good and as soon as you request for something and it gets done. Welcoming guests was good. Room was not so great although they say hotel maintains heritage but hotel room requiring updating. Room facing street food at the back is quite noisy and smelly and can't keep windows open. We had few other issues for e.g. there was no locker in the room, balcony was broken and unsafe. Next day they changed our room facing sea and it was much better but because there was parade going on hence seaside view was not possible. Breakfast options were quite good. Hotel is quite pricy

The food here was excellent. And although the staff was kind and friendly, the majority of them did not speak english which created miscommunication and slow service. I think the staff needs more support from upper management. The staff we greatly appreciated are Asing (restaurant), Kalai (Laundry/room), Asis (Email correspondence), and Praneetha (spa). We were on the second floor room 22 and 23. Both rooms had mold and we also found cockroaches in our bathrooms at night. Our mattress in room 22 was also terrible. Big disappointment.

Not worth the price!
The Promenade Hotel location is perfect as it is right on the promenade in the French Quarters. The hotel is 15 years old and is very dated and needs some serious renovations, considering their room rates. Amenities were of very poor quality and i had to ask for the hand towels to be replaced as they had black marks on them. The other issue is the noise factor as a result of the proximity to the promenade which goes on till very late at night. On the other hand, the staff is excellent, attentive and very helpful. On the whole a bit pricey for the quality of the property. I would not stay there again or recommend it to anyone.

Overall not a good value for money
The location is great but the hotel needs better maintenance ! My room had a big mirror completely damaged by humidity, which makes the room look cheap and not well taken care of. For the price I would have expected a better decor in the room: the leatherette is really looking cheap, the wooden floor was completely scratched. It's a pity because the hotel has a great potential !

Staff was so friendly and they even offered special food for kid. Breakfast was good but it could have been better and It would have been great if the sea view rooms are with a balcony but still, it is worth for the pleasant stay.

The hotel is very conveniently located. Service is amazing. The Blue Line restaurant was wonderful - we had lunch there and really enjoyed all the entrees we got. The breakfast buffet was also amazing and very fresh! Will definitely stay again if I’m in the area again

I chose this hotel form it’s location facing the beach in Pondicherry. At the time I made the reservation for two rooms, all the sea facing rooms were booked. I wasn’t too bothered as I expected the non-sea facing rooms to be ok, just without the view. That was a big mistake. Don’t stay at this hotel if you can’t get a sea facing room. We were given two rooms at the dark dingy end of the hallway on the second floor. The rooms had a partial side view of the sea if the wooden shutters and doors were opened and you and stuck your head out. My parent’s room doors didn’t open so they didn’t have this as an option. The bathrooms are dingy and there is no light I’m the entry area. The overall look of the rooms we were given was a bit shabby and rundown and the dark hallway was the same. The paint didn’t look fresh and it was poorly lit. I walked to the other end of the hallway which had a sea facing window at the end and noticed that the front half of the hallway was much brighter and better maintained. The rooms on that side of the hallway all had the same view of the street and partial sea view. I was quite upset with the rooms we were given. The hotel was fully booked and the manager on duty told me they had allocated the “best” rooms available. When asked why they didn’t allocate two rooms in the lighter brighter part of the hallway, he had no answer. Poorly trained staff and old looking rooms make this hotel a big no-no unless you really want to be near the beach.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Promenade. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Food was excellent. The room was very comfy and quiet. The hotel itself could use a small renovation/freshening. We hated the air freshener they sprayed in the room. We would definitely recommend staying. Tips: You can grab a tuk-tuk to Auroville for a flat 300 rupees (we tipped him well because at that price they are not making anything). Make an appointment to see Raj Nivas (2 min walk). It’s a bizarre tour and you might get to meet Gov Kiran Bedi.

Hotel to avoid despite a very good location. It's old fashioned, need to be refurbished totally. Room was dirty, equipment like telephone, safe box, not working. You need to ask for sevral times before somebody will take these problems in account. Very bad isolation so noisy at the point it's difficult to sleep if there's neighbors room watching TV or if there is some music outside (avoid first floor street side with the bar located in floor -1). Compare to others hotel or pension, the price is elevated and not corresponding to a 4* hotel. It is equivalent to a 2* star hotel maximum

Think once again to stay here
It seems good to stay because it is facing the bay of Bengol. But inside the room you cannot see anything and there is no special advantage except accessing to the beach. Very old moldy smell, humid and flattened mattress, spotted dirty mattress covers and poor amenities.

Hotel vieillissant mais agréable
Très bon emplacement pour découvrir la ville blanche mais l'hotel est vieillissant et aurait besoin d'un petit coup de neuf Le système wifi n'est pas au niveau qu'un hotel de ce type devrait offrir. N'hésitez pas à payer un peu plus pour avoir la vue sur la mer cela vaut le coup
