I booked this place couple of days before new years (Risked) but it had 9.2 stars. It was my first time going to Punta Cana and I wanted it to be special for new years AND I paid extra for Ocean View room. I was excited and sent a message to property to ask them about booking dinner and everything else that is needed for my special new year. This is what I encountered:
1) I barely understood at the reception the girl that checked us in and she said I can't book any fine dinning dinner because everything is booked! I showed her my message upon booking and all she said well Im sorry.
2) Then we were taken to the room which my booking clearly shows is Ocean View Suite just so I learn that my room is looking into the garden and neighboors pool!!!At this point I called front desk and the lady was yelling at me saying that I got what I paid for, and that they have categories of Ocean view LOL excuse me!!?How would I know that if Im paying for Ocean view?? Several minutes later she called and apologized for her tone. She said she can try to give me an upgrade after new years and into next day but I still didn't see the value only annoyance with packing and unpacking for couple of days. At this point I said I want refund for each night I paid extra and I'll duke it out in the room I unpacked. I overpaid everything at this resort, later I'll learn that food is total crap that added to my experience.
Entering into 2026 turned out exhausting experience at El Carmen.
