Saint-Amand-Montrond Église paroissiale de St Armand, is of a benedictine plan. The east end has three apses with blind galleries dating from the 12th century. The transept supports a belltower restored in the 19th century. The arches 'arcs brisés' of the nave and choir have capitals showing byzantine influence. The nave is flanked by 15th century private chapels- the chapel of St Anne which was sponsored by Philippe de Culant and his wife Anne de Beaujeu Lignières is in the flamboyant Gothic style. The west end portal shows the arabo-espagnol polylobe arches associate with the pilgrimage to Compostella.
Canal de Berry à Saint-Amand Montrond, Cher, vue O-E. Aménagé entre début et mi-XIXe s. au petit gabarit berrichon (27,5 x 2,6 m, port max. 60 t), il est déclassé en 1955. On est loin des dimensions Freycinet, 38,5 x 5,05 m, port de 250 à 400 t, normes d’une grande part du réseau fluvial français, un peu plus tard ! Ses 3 branches cumulées, représentent 320 km de voies d’eau. Celle traversant la ville, dite sud et qui opère un large coude, vient de Montluçon, Allier.
Non, nous ne sommes pas dans la sous-préfecture de Lot et Garonne, mais aux confins du Berry et Bourbonnais ! Affluent du Cher en rive droite, qu’elle rejoint au niveau de la gare de Saint Amand-Orval, la Marmande prend sa source 45 km au sud, vers Cérilly, Allier, au-delà de la forêt de Tronçais. Elle longe, sur une grande partie de son cours, l’ancien canal de Berry.

Manque un double vitrage, bruit des voitures dans la rue et des gens passant dans la rue. Des oreillers confortables seraient nécessaires. Sinon, propriétaires sympathiques. Rien à redire sur le reste des prestations.
