After a long winter filled with online learning and lots of time cooped up at home, some time by the beach was just what our family needed and this cottage offered us the perfect oasis for our getaway! My husband and I brought our daughter and a friend, both 15, and our sons ages 10 and 8, and there was plenty of room for all. The cottage was stocked with more blankets and pillows than we could need and everything was comfortable and cozy. The decor was inviting and made us feel right at home, the whole place was sparkling clean, and we found nice little extras everywhere we looked: a few dishwasher pods, a small supply of laundry detergent, a few garbage bags and paper towels to get us started, a few rolls of toilet paper in the small but functional bath, even some lighter fluid and charcoal for the grill! We found a generous supply of towels and washcloths as well and despite six people showering back to back, we never ran out of hot water which was a nice surprise!
The park pass for Hunting Island was great and the beach there was truly a hidden gem!! No crowds, gorgeous white sand, perfect swimming, and easy access from multiple close parking lots. Once back from the beach, the screened in porch made for a great drop zone for our sandy shoes, towels, and beach gear which helped keep the cottage clean. Inside, the air conditioning kept us cool and comfortable after our sun soaked days. I also loved spending the mornings on the porch with my coffee, listening to the birds, and chatting with my hubby about our plans for the day.
The location of the cottage made everything around us so accessible. We took day trips to Charleston and Hilton Head. Beaufort and Port Royal are only a few minutes away. Right on the same road as the cottage, you will find Family Dollar, a Dollar General, and Walmart, all within 10 miles. In the other direction, only a 5-7 minute ride, is Hunting Island State Park and some cute local restaurants and souvenir shops to check out.
Some of our favorite low country places were Stellar Ice Cream in Beaufort (try the sea salt caramel), The Smokehouse in Port Royal (excellent brisket!!!), and our amazing shark fishing charter with Dolphin Discoveries Nature Tours in Hilton Head (Captain Craig was amazing!)
We had such a wonderful week. The kids are already asking to come back next summer and thanks to a great stay and a stellar host, we wouldn’t hesitate to book this cottage again!!
