Great party atmosphere. While swimming at the beautiful beach, they had a DJ playing good music over the loudspeaker. Nice food, free dinner and breakfast with overnight fale booking. cheap drinks...well worth the price.

I loved that it was right on the beach and that the snorkelling was really nice and there were staff from other countries and samoan staff. I didn't like that I had to pay a fee to just walk down the road to the fales, I already paid to stay there I shouldnt need to pay additional each time I want to go out and do an activity.

Very beautiful location and beautiful beach. Open fales are gorgeous. The food was amazing, the best we had in Samoa. Good bathroom facilities. The only minus is the road that leads to a location and that you need to pay 20tala for a road which is in bad condition.

Secluded location right on a safe beach with good snorkelling is excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

since my arrival and throughout my stay (1 whole week) I appreciated the respect, the kindness, the professionalism which reigns there with a very cordial atmosphere! As for the place, just Divine !!!

A Beautiful Somoan family run these relaxing fales. Have a massage to unwind. The beach is lovely, although a little more awareness should be emphasized on protecting the coral reef.

Nice beach but way too expensive compared to other fales around Upolu (pricing around 70/night). The facilities are of slightly lower quality than average in Samoa although the price per night is much higher. This was the only beach where I have seen rats in Samoa. Finally, if you come by car, you need to pay 20Talas extra at the community member to reach the Fales, even if you have a reservation.

Absolutely beautiful place. Would definitely stay again. Beach fales are very basic, and hot in summer. Cabins are modest but comfortable. Swimming and activities are awesome.The people make this place special. Great food included in price. Thank you for an incredible honeymoon stay.

What a magical part of the world, we stayed in 1 AC unit and 1 beach fale and it was great to have both experiences. The people were friendly and we enjoyed eating and talking with all the other guests - great snorkeling and totally beautiful beach. Also enjoyed the massage, pool table and table tennis when the weather was not so great one of the days. The kids are already asking when can be go back again.

Fabulous real Samoan experience
Just look at the pictures previous visitors have posted. It is just as it looks - a simple, precious paradise. a step away from safe swimming on white sand and the best snorkelling metres away - at any time, high or low tide. family operated business employing locals trips to see colourful giant clams; or fabulous walks along the coast, walking in the real jungle of Samoa. plentiful and healthy food - everyone went up for second helpings. So much you can hardly want lunch, but if you did get the yummy omelette community owned and run by the wonderful Faletoese family, together with their friends, family and neighbours from the Matareva village. Be rejuvenated with Dorothy and her healing Samoan Massage Umu (fire pit lunch) Sunday which is a feast of crayfish, crab....go and watch them preparing the food... night sky magnificent. rugby on the beach with all the kids and the table tennis table and pool table Wonderful evening entertainment twice a week - Fiafia night - dancing and fire shows including local youth groups - young upcoming stars practising their fantastic “moves” for the fire dances. Homely and friendly resort in a beautiful bay
We spent a week here. Total relaxation. Very roomy open Fales on 5he beach overlooking golden sand and a turquoise sea. The breakfasts and dinners are included in the room rate and are nutritious and varied, giving us the opportunity to taste some local produce such as palisame (baby taro leaves cooked in coconut milk) and breadfruit. The resort is run by family members from the local village with help from overseas volunteers. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Prices for lunches, drinks from the bar and activities were clearly displayed, quite different from some of our experiences in Apia! They have created a marine reserve which means great snorkelling.

Wonderful hostel right on the beach
Matareva Beach Fales are traditional Samoan huts right on the beach. They contain a bed surrounded by a mosquito net, towel , pillow and sheet just to let you know what you are in for. The Hut has a tin roof and is surrounded with handwoven palm frond mats. You can keep these mats closed for privacy or raise them like a Roman shade to let the sea breeze refresh your hut each day. Your “front lawn” is a white sand beach and the ocean. At night you hear the ocean and smell the sea breeze. Directly outside your fale there are hammocks tied between coconut palms. The cove is a coral reef where you will find sea turtles, a variety of coral and beautiful colored fish. Some of these are phosphorescent, so be sure to go for an evening snorkel. The water is a pure aqua green and you can see your feet in the white sand when you in in shallow water or deep. I stayed in the water bouyed by the gentle waves for hours at a time. For experienced surfers there is also good surfing further out beyond the protected cove. I had the most delightful time! This family run hostel is a real community experience. I met friends of all ages at the communal meals. The family and staff are magnificent, generous and caring. I have stayed at five star hotels but this simple place was one of my best vacations ever. The meals are delicious, there is traditional Samoan fire dancing and excursions to unique sites where you can see giant clams and lava tubes. I would come back every year!

Checked in at 9pm due to difficulty locating the hotel. Was told we were ‘late’ by hotel staff but the room was not even ready. Female bathrooms were the worst we saw in Samoa. Mold in the cracks and hair all over the sink and drains. Average breakfast the following morning and then was told to check out at 10am. Disappointed with the service and stay as we had heard such good things about the place but the worst accomodation we had during our trip in samoa

Welcome to paradise!! Best accommodation in Upolu!
This was the best in accommodation we stayed in on our trip to Samoa and we will definitely be coming back upon our return. All staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome and create a fun environment and experience for all who attend. We attended their fiafia night and we found this to be the performers to be more interactive with crowd which created an awesome vibe among the spectators. Matereva Beach is a little harder to get to so keep an eye out for the sinage. Just an FYI that you will have to pay to enter the road at a separate cost to the accommodation. The road itself is unmade and takes time to get to the accommodation but it's well worth it. Matereva Beach is a beautiful cove and it looks like a little bit of paradise. It is a great place to snorkel as there are so much sea life among the coral. Someone even saw a turtle in the cove when we were there. The open Fales were well presented and they even provided towels. The facilities and bathrooms were kept clean and soap was provided to wash hands. Breakfast and dinner were provided. The food was delicious. They had a few dishes that were authentically Samoan and there was more than enough food cooked. If you are staying on Sunday definitely opt in for the traditional Samoan lunch. Beverages and lunch menues were decently priced too. Matareva beach fales is close to many attractions along the southern coast of Upolu. Shout out to Lucky who enjoyed pats and cuddles!!

Beautiful and simple accommodations on great beach
Beautiful and basic fales on a stunning beach. Good snorkeling right off the beach, solid simple breakfast and dinner included, and friendly staff and family. The fales are bare bones, but if you're up for roughing it a bit, this is a true taste of both paradise and of the Samoan experience.

Our first beach Fale
Apart from the long, bumpy drive from the main road, our experience was fabulous. The breakfast and dinner were very good and the Sunday traditional Umu lunch was excellent. Free tea, coffee and Milo were available at all times. Bar prices were reasonable and the 5-7pm happy hour made it better value. There was a table tennis table and pool table in the communal area and we got to chat to travellers from Australia and America. The Fale itself was our first such experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wonderful stay
Stayed for 5 nights. Had the best time at Matareva Beach Resorts. The staffs have been very friendly and helpful. The fale is right at the beach, we sleep so well with wave sound as lullaby. Went for snorkelling everyday, the reefs and fishes are wonderful! Highly recommended.

Beautiful beach fales and excellent swimming spot
It was disappointing that on arrival we had to pay 10tala to drive to the accomodation and there was no ability to challenge this- the driveway to the beach was in need of repair and a lower vehicle would find it hard over the bumps. However on arrival the locals using the day fales provided an amazing atmosphere and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. The food was delicious and the local youth groups cultural performance was epic with the national fire dancing champion was a treat! A beautiful and safe swimming beach and reefs to explore.

My heart now belongs to Matareva
The place is an amazing paradise, I travelled with my husband and 6y/o child not expecting at all what I was going to experience. The Fales are so cute and they set them up for you so amazing that looks like from a post card, the beach is just stunning and I come from the Caribbean, so my standards are quite high, but this is is just too beautiful. It was the only place I snorkelled and the coral was not bleached they have done amazing job restarting the coral after the tsunami. The food was awesome as it was Samoan local cuisine you get diner and breakfast included which we did not get anywhere else. The staff are amazing so friendly and always happy, the atmosphere is super chilled and lay back There are share toilets but I did not mind them at all, it was ok as they were very well looked after. I loved it so much that I just went back to Matareva 2 times more and even on my last day in Samoa as this place stole my heart....

My partner and I stayed 3 nights at Matareva and we absolutely loved it! Amazing location down a private gravel road, so nice and secluded. The family and staff who run Matareva were amazing, very friendly and wanting to make your stay the best that they could. Food was yummy and met some great people. Would defiantly recommend. Wonderful weekend
Had a great time here. A warm shower and a comfier mattress would’ve been great though. Staff were all super and no rush to check out either, we were welcome to stay all day on our last day. If you are leaving on a Sunday, make sure you sort out a taxi beforehand because that was a bit difficult.

The resort was just perfect in every way. Staying in a fale is not for everyone but I loved it. Lots of fantastic snorkelling in the marine protected area off the beach. The road from the main road down to the beach is unmade so it’s a slow careful drive down to the resort but you’ll not be disappointed when you get there!

The gem of Samoa
We stayed two nights in a Fale on the beach. The location is amazing, the best snorkle in Samoa. Indeed the beach is a natural reserve where fishing is forbidden. The corals start not even five meter from the shore. The family that runs the property is welcoming, nice and friendly. It is like being at home. The food is amazing, both breakfast and dinner are really yummy. We will surely come back

An amazing beach fale
This is a little slice of paradise tucked away on the coast south of Apia. It is made up of a series of beach fales (basic buildings with no walls, a simple roof, woven leaf screens, no hot water, and no power outlets) but the care, attention, and kindness of the staff, the fact that you get to wake up ten paces from the water, and the fact that two delicious meals are included in the price elevate it to a five-star experience.

A wonderful welcoming experience
Matareva is a beautiful beach and lagoon with great snorkelling but the best thing is the wonderful family and staff who make it a very welcoming and authentic experience. Fiauu and Tavita's five boys are all great guys that you will enjoy meeting.

Excellent value for money.
Very nice setting. Amazing sunsets, nice beach, very good food (breakfast and dinner included). Staff is friendly, everything is clean and sleeping on the beach, listening to the waves is just amazing.
