I booked a stay at the Garden Street Inn last week, and it was such a lovely experience. I took the Amtrak in and arrived a couple of hours before check-in, but they kindly allowed me to check in early, which was incredibly convenient.
The staff was warm, welcoming, and very accommodating throughout my stay. I stayed in the “Ah Louis” room, which was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and featured a large bathtub, which was a great bonus.
I've never been to San Luis Obispo before, and all the rooms being named after a historical place in town was so interesting! There were great historical photos and articles on the walls. I even took a walk to the actual 'Ah Louis' store in town.
The building is a bit older, so you can occasionally hear people in the hallways. That said, all the other guests during my stay were very quiet, and it never felt disruptive. In fact, the only time I noticed how full the inn was during breakfast.
Breakfast was a highlight. I was expecting a standard buffet, but instead they prepare a fresh, made-to-order breakfast, along with pastries and fruit. Everything was delicious. They also offered a complimentary glass of wine at check-in, which I personally passed on, but it was a thoughtful touch.
Although check-out was at 11:00am, they allowed me to store my bags for a couple hours so I could walk around before my train.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning to explore the downtown area.
