Perched above the sparkling Aegean Sea on Serifos's east coast, and gazing out over a horizon of islands, Claudina is a peach of a house for those who wish to live out carefree days in pure Greek style. An array of lazy terraces invite repose, a virtually private beach below the house beckons when you wish to cool off, an al fresco kitchen and dining area transforms every meal into a memory, and the nearby harbour village of Livada awaits you with open arms.
Inside: accommodation at Claudina is arranged over a main house, an externally accessed guest wing, and two separate guest rooms.
The entrance to the main house leads into a warmly welcoming and comfortably furnished living room, which looks out at the blue Aegean Sea via a full wall of sliding glass doors. To the left is a large, L-shaped white sofa and a fireplace, to the right is a desk, a pair of armchairs, a TV, and a second glass door accessing the terraces. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line one wall, grey stone floors run throughout, white walls with niches and lofty wood-beamed ceilings enhance the luminous, airy atmosphere, and an eclectic range of artworks, antiques, collectibles, and soft furnishings add subtle injections of colour and interest.
A couple of steps at one end of the living area allow the space to flow up to the kitchen-diner, whose two areas are divided by a semi-partition wall with openings on either side. The dining table looks out to sea, while the well-equipped kitchen opens out onto the shaded al fresco dining area.
Back at the other end of the living room, a door between the bookshelves opens into a private corridor, off which are the two en-suite shower rooms of the main bedroom, and the main bedroom itself, a double with glorious sea views and access, via sliding glass doors, to a large, sheltered area of terrace.
The guest wing is located a few steps across the terraces from the main house, and comprises three double bedrooms and three shower rooms, all accessed from a central hallway. Each bedroom has sea views and access to a wonderful wrap-around terrace.
The remaining accommodation at Claudina are the two separate guest rooms. The first is situated just across the rear terraces from the main house and comprises a bedroom with a small double bed and en-suite shower room (this may be most suitable for an independent teenager). The second is located in a secluded, panoramic position up some steps behind the main house. Accessed from a private terrace, it hosts a double bedroom with sea views, a kitchen corner, and an en-suite shower room.
Outside: immersed in around 2.5 acres of grounds that hug the coastline, Claudina’s al fresco areas are a delight to explore and spend time in. The property’s elevated position and its east-facing orientation affords it incomparable views, which, on a clear day take in 12 neighbouring islands: Andros, Tinos, Syros, Naxos, Paros, Antiparos, Ios, Sikinos, Sifnos, Folegandros, Mykonos and Delos.
Free-flowing, stone-clad terraces wrap around all parts of the property, offering numerous options for guests to come together or to find a private spot for some quiet time. Running along the façade and around the sides of the main house and the guest wing, is a sweep of sea-view terrace that hosts a seemingly endless variety of sun-kissed and shaded areas in which to relax and gaze at the hypnotic views. Steps and paths link the different areas, each of which is well furnished for sitting and lounging, and bordered by stone walls, fragrant plants, hardy cacti, aspiring pine trees, vibrant bougainvillea, and terracotta urns. The main bedroom has its own covered area of terrace, and a few steps down below this is a magical pine tree-shaded sitting area looking out to sea.
Perhaps the highlight of the terraced gardens is the large, cane-shaded, and wonderfully secluded outdoor dining area and kitchen, situated between the main house and the guest wing. A joy for keen cooks and lovers of al fresco living, it features a traditional, stone-built wood-fired oven and barbecue, a sink, and a central island prep area. You will no doubt spend many memorable, convivial times with your loved ones here, cooking together, dining late into the night, and gazing out to sea.
The guest room above the main house has its own shaded sea-view terrace framed by colourful climbers and leafy greenery.
The ace up Claudina’s sleeve is found at the bottom of the terraces, where the gardens join a coastal track shared with just a couple of other properties. A gentle stroll of 3 minutes will take you down to an idyllic, pebbly-sandy cove, where the limpid waters of the Aegean Sea await.
Parts of the route to this property are unpaved and a little rough. We therefore recommend guests hire a 4-wheel drive car or one with high ground clearance.
Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
Due to its location, the phone reception is limited at this villa, and the internet network is slower than in many of our properties. While it does allow standard browsing, it is not adequate for online streaming or remote working.
