Great wilderness cabin
We really enjoyed Sylvia and Larry's cabin located at the scenic North Fork of the Smith River. The cabin was very comfortable and relaxing. The shaded babbling brook with chairs and a hammock were great spots to rest or read next to the cabin. The owners have a house on the property (a private in-holding within the Smith River National Recreation Area) but we still felt like we had a lot of privacy. They were friendly and helpful hosts. We drove short distances for a couple of great hikes in the area and the long drive to get to the cabin is itself very scenic.

PRIVATE COMFORTABLE ESCAPE
Small (preferable), luxurious features (stove, shower, sinks, and the floors, the little drawer knobs, and even the little wood stove is a luxurios feature!). All the windows - curtains aren't necessary because there are no other cabins anywhere! That is wonderful! It is what makes it so special. No cabin on every side of you like other places! It's just you, the river, the pasture, the creek, the rain, the owner's home a far distance but close enough for friendship. It's just a great experience. Don't tell too many people or you'll never get a reservation!

Perfect Get Away
Sure, our friends assumed that this was an isolated cabin specifially for a murder but it was everything we were looking for. It may be off grid, but with electricity running hot and cold water, a gas range, dual refrigerator drawers, internet and a large shower it certainly didn’t fee off grid. But trust us, you’re out there. Exactly 20 miles from pavement to cabin front door and we didn’t see a single person. The wood burning stove was all stocked and sized to keep the cabin just warm enough where you can crack a window for cool air in the upstairs bedroom And yeah, the upstairs toilet is weird. Until it’s 2am and you need to pee and don’t want to walk down the stairs. Still weird, but it makes sense. This is not an area for hiking. We did a bit of exploring and the river is amazing. But you’re here to reconnect with your SO or to just disconnect from everything Made some amazing meals. Drank great wine. Smoked weed at the little bench by the little pond. For three straight days. This is why we recommend this place whole heartedly. We are so coming back.

It was literally unique experience in my life. And I can recommend this place to other people if they also want to stay away from city life for a while. Beautiful property and cozy cabin. We loved how remote the location was and enjoyed many days having the swimming holes on the smith river to ourselves. The cabin and pond area were enchanting and relaxing. If you want privacy at the river come during the week. Expect to unwind and settle into the rhythms of the place.

Back to paradise
This was our second year staying here for a handful of nights and we hope to make it an annual tradition! The cabin is such a wonderful combination of rustic and rough, and low-key luxurious. The nice amenities like the stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, pounded copper sink, soft-close drawers, and beautiful shower are integrated so tastefully. We love the remote location and nature here. The geology and flora in the area is beautiful. You feel as though it is another world, and yet it is only 12-15 miles as the crow flies from the ocean-you wouldn't believe it. It is a place to relax, enjoy the forest, read, poke around the pond, sit by the fire, enjoy the quiet, the stars and moon at night, the sounds of the river. Our family finds such great peace here and love making memories. Can't wait to come back next year!

Great stay at simple and remote cabin
Sylvia and Larry have a beautiful property about as remote you can get. Plan an extra couple hours driving because the 20 miles of gravel road is no joke, but our Corolla handled it fine. Right next to a beautiful swimming hole with emerald green water, the Smith river is a great place to relax and spend your day quietly. The cabin is simple but comfortable with nice outdoor areas like a little pond with a love seat and hammock. A big step up from camping but don’t expect fast wifi, a TV, or to run out for a meal. We made it the center piece of a week of camping in the Coastal range and it was a great place to relax and recuperate for more adventures.

We had a wonderful trip. This was our second trip to this amazing cabin in the woods. Our hosts were amazing as always. Great help and communication. Their property is a gem among the natural gem that is smith river. We had the river bend near the property pretty much all to ourselves.

With a Little Help From My Friends
As dusk was approaching while my husband and I were more than halfway tooling up the terrain to Sylvia and Larry’s cabin, I texted Sylvia to inform her of our impending arrival. To our bewilderment- and Sylvia’s too- she pointed out that our reservation isn’t until the next day, as she still had guests. Lesson: do not book anything in a hurry while sitting in a moving car and are prone to motion sickness. Evidently, I had foolishly clicked the wrong dates. What were we to do?! We were already an hour up off the beaten path and it was getting dark. Calm and collected, Sylvia generously offered a bed in her main house. She is a nurturing Mother Goose of an angel and reassured that it will all be okay. We ended up using our tent from our previous night and set up tent at the overhang over the river. It felt like a once in a life time exclusive camping spot that you’d never find at a state park. Sylvia and Larry’s hospitality went above and beyond, as they allowed us to shower in their main house, which we were grateful for such accommodation. Larry even cleaned the cabin right at dawn as soon as the guests checked out, so that we could quickly get situated, instead of checking in at 4pm. As soon as we settled in the cabin, we were in the paradise we had imagined and yearned for. We mainly lounged in and around the cabin because nowhere else was better for what we needed- and that is to mentally and physically rest from our busy working lives. We loved it all! Thank you!

25th Anniversary
Hubby & I flew in from FL to explore N Cali Redwoods and S Oregon hot springs for 10 days on our 25 anniversary. Spent a wonderful 4 nights at the cabin. Went to Jedediah, played on the shore of Smith river. Enjoyed the board games and exploring the property. Very relaxing. Sylvia and Larry have made a slice of paradise and I'm greatful to have been able to experience it. Sylvia was very quick to respond w any questions and went above and beyond to accommodate a couple of our requests. Thank you so much!!!!

Off Grid Hidden Gem
We can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay. The cabin was perfect and surpassed our expectations! The owners(and their dogs) were so friendly and welcoming. They also had great stories to tell. It is right on the McGrew trail so we brought our jeep up and did some rides on the trail. We enjoyed the warm October afternoons down by the river(and we did get in). Our evenings were spent by the fire and enjoying being under the moon and stars. We will definitely be back and will also check out their other properties!

Heaven On Earth
I really do not know where to start. Enjoy the ride into the cabin. Stop along the way and take photos. It will probably be the most spectacular ride you will ever have or rank in the top 5. I recommend keeping it at 10 to 13 MPH. Go slow and enjoy it will all be worth it. The cabin is all they said it was and far exceeded our expectations. Bring plenty of food with you and sit back and decompress. We shared Sylvias and larry's companions Ouchie and Sissy. They made us feel at home. Have a stick in hand or a ball to throw to sissy and she will love you. Larry was like a Dad to us and showed us all around and shared the history of the area with us. Thank you Sylvia and Larry for preserving a part of the American past for others to enjoy. Looking forward to our return. You guys will be in our thoughts and memories. Amazing off grid cabin!
There aren’t many places like Sylvia & Larry’s cabin. This place is a once in a lifetime cabin to stay and it’s right on the North Fork of the Smith River. The cabin is a refreshing break from the hustle & bustle of the real world! This place would be a must do recommendation for anyone I know. Sylvia, Larry, and all the dogs were amazing and very gracious! We will be back!

We enjoyed every moment of our stay. The cabin is very beautiful and cozy, it has a very equipped kitchen, a comfortable bed, two bathrooms, a wood heater, hot water, refrigerator, outdoor fire place area, it has everything. A perfect place to rest and relax, with beautiful views.. we really enjoyed the stay. Larry was very welcoming, attentive, kind, and full of hospitality. I really appreciate your work put in every detail in the cabin, it's admirable and makes it so perfect. He showed us some of the trails where you could get different views of the land around and appreciate each one as beautiful as they were. We had a positive experience with his dogs as they were very friendly. The drive was 100% do-able even in our non four wheel drive car and in the dark. Really wished we could have stayed more than 3 nights. The environment just doesn't want to let you go, its mesmerizing. Such a magical place, surrounded by mountains, the sound of the river was like relaxing music in my ears, simply a wonderful place. We really loved this experience and we are definitely coming back. Side note: I recommend following the directions the hosts give you and not Google maps. The road we were told to go on was very nice, we had absolutely no problems driving through it. We went in a car by the way.

ATTACKED AND BITTEN BY HOSTS VICIOUS DOGS
We experienced such a lapse of judgment by the host who admitted new dogs were aggressive. Luckily I’m big and aggressive and could fight them off but the thought of a child or elderly person getting attacked is frightening. Also the fact you are so far away from help compounds the potential problem, then the host can’t provide rabies certification for 3 days. We decided on this remote property after reading great reviews and really wanting some isolation, instead we got a scary experience. We we told dogs we’re removed from property, that’s great I just question owners overall judgment.

We made a mistake in having the dogs off leash They are recent rescues that are normally friendly but also protective It should not have happened They are Queensland' heelers not pit bulls It happened on Sunday afternoon of Labor Day weekend Tuesday morning when the vet office opened I provided proof of rabies vaccine We did everything we could to try to alleviate the situation by removing dogs from property Since then we have been working with shock collars and have been leashing whenever guests are on the property They are not vicious dogs just protective of our immediate space For guests who are open to it we have introduced the dogs to the guests while the dogs are leashed and it has gone very well We thought the dogs were under voice control but they obviously were not

Excellent getaway from everyday life!
We stayed here with my wife for 3 nights and even that seemed like not enough. The atmosphere of this place simply doesn't want to let you go back. Enjoying the nature during the daytime is just priceless. Although what I would add to this place - is some more cozy warm exterior lighting around the firepit area and around the nice little pond, because if you want to stay awake a little more after dark and enjoy the fire - it seems kinda dark around the house and you have to point a flashlight at every noise you hear or every shadow that you see. But it's totally up to the owners, because we understand that they might not have enough energy to provide additional exterior lighting. Again - overall beautiful place to reset your mind and enjoy the nature!!!

Amazingly relaxing
The pictures and description of this one of a kind property do not come close to the praise it deserves. It’s the epitome of a cabin in the woods but better. The trails near the cabin were stunning, running next to the fresh water streams and vast beauty of vegetation. We loved the hammock next to the pond, a perfect relaxing place after a day of spending the day at the swimming hole. Our dogs joined us and they loved it too! The cabin is cozy and a great place to relax after a day of exploring. I only wish we could have stayed another day. Highly recommend 3 nights minimum.

Perfect “Off Grid” getaway
From the booking to the sad drive out the gate, this was a great stay. I’d love to come back. Loved the interaction with the host. Living off the grid myself, we bonded quickly. This property is off the grid and that's what we were hoping for. It's a private, comfortable, casual yet upscale setting. Larry & Sylvia are absolutely delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed talking with both of them. If you're coming to this cabin in warmer weather, I recommended relaxing and swimming in the Smith River. Bring something to float around on. We loved our stay as it was a tranquil retreat for the two of us.

Off the grid paradise
My wife and I enjoyed our 2nd stay on the property which is a mountain/river valley paradise to us. The peacefulness, beauty, and seclusion yet with access to modern amenities (kitchen, bathroom, electricity, Wi-Fi, etc). The kitchen and bathroom have beautiful granite (the owners are experts). The north fork of the smith river is some of the cleanest, most beautiful water we’ve ever swam in. We recommend a minimum of 3 nights on the property, you won’t regret that decision. It’s a long trip for one night, slow road but very manageable and a pretty drive. Sylvia and Larry are exceptional hosts and people. Their dogs are great hosts as well and it’s a lovely place for animal lovers. It’s become an annual trip (or semi-annual!) for us!

We plan our trips around our unsocial dog. Sylvia and Larry arranged for us to have our 5 day stay with no one the property so our dog could run around without us worrying about her. The cabin is beautiful, I’ve stayed at many cabins and this was my favorite so far. Some of the days the temperature was in the high 90s, while the other days it was in the 80s. The cabin stayed really cool during the hot days. We spent most of our days at the river and came back and barbequed dinner on their outdoor wood stove (they also have a nice indoor stove to cook on). This property is a gem and Larry and Sylvia are the nicest, most accommodating hosts we have ever had. We typically enjoy rugged camping on dispersed land in the middle of no-where, but it was nice to have the amenities that we wouldn't usually have. Just some advice- there is good internet connection there. I really can’t believe some reviewers said they had to ask the host to start their fire. Google how to start a fire- there is wood provided and a propane torch.

A sublime retreat to nature, with refined touches
Like others, I'm almost hesitant to add my own rave review to the pile of others, because this place is absolutely incredible and I want to be able to book it in the future! :) That said, the fact that it is a rustic cabin in a remote location (no shopping, no anything else but nature, you will see bugs, it might be hot/cold/, there's no tv, etc) kind of self-selects that this isn't a spot for everyone. We'd previously been to the swim hole very close to this property on multiple occasions and stayed at a different friend's off-grid home. We knew we enjoyed the area. But this cabin is AMAZING. The location is brilliant, with the creek and pond out the kitchen window. Dog friendly. And the swim hole a 2 minute walk away. I am in love with the kitchen, all the design touches were there, integrated fridge, soft close drawers, all utensils, gas range, etc. But it is still rustic. I loved watching out of the pretty window over the sink, seeing my son play by the pond with the dog while I cooked and washed dishes, it felt so perfect, a memory for a lifetime. The bathroom is beautiful and the bed is extremely comfortable and fan really nice for keeping airflow. The stonework counter-tops all over are great. The property has fun things to explore and the river is just gorgeous. Having internet as needed is great. I didn't get to meet the wonderful owners of this property but their superlative reputation precedes them and is reflected in the care on the property and attentiveness of communication. Hopefully next time! Everyone in my circle of outdoorsy friends from the hardcore to the casual would absolutely love this place. I know we sure did!
