My biggest problem with this property is that it was described as a private residence with a private entrance and it wasn’t. It seemed from the listing that there was an upstairs unit and a downstairs unit like a duplex or condo but it wasn’t. We were literally sharing a two story home with the owners. When you walk in the front door you’re looking up the stairs into their wide open living room where the owner is hanging out. There is a door downstairs going into the area of the home we were staying in but again it doesn’t feel private at all. To make matters worse there’s signs by all the doors reminding you to be quiet and close the doors quietly and keep the doors to the down stairs portion closed. It was the most uncomfortable and awkward feeling vacation I’ve ever had. I would never stay here again. The owner needs to fix their listing to clearly describe this for future renters. In addition I’m not a fan of the cancellation insurance policy. My daughter and I came down sick the day were supposed to travel and at that point it’s too late to use the cancellation insurance to cover your stay. We wound up missing the first two days of our trip and going up for the last two nights So that it wasn’t a complete waste of money.

If you care about your family and our first responders…
Do not rent this property, because the property owner has no regard for your well-being or the South Lake Tahoe fire department. We can make this factual claim because of the following events and communications that took place during our stay from 12/27/22 to 1/1/23. 1). On 12/28/22 the upstairs “renter” left the property and soon afterwards we smelled a strong odor, which we feared could be a natural gas leak. The upstairs residence was off limits, so we immediately contacted the fire department for our own safety and the safety of the property. When the fire captain arrived on the scene we notified him that we were on vacation and he immediately questioned if this was a legitimate vacation rental property because there was no signage indicating so. We advised the captain that we rented through Vrbo and upon further investigation, he notified the sheriff's department suspecting that it was an unregistered vacation rental property. Thankfully, the odor was not a gas leak and the fire crew suspected it might have been a strong air freshener that the upstairs renter was using or a poorly maintained heater. 2). We communicated every occurrence with the property owner via Vrbo text in order to keep her abreast of the developing situation and instead of expressing any concern or regard for our safety or the safety of the property, she surprisingly threatened to charge us if she received a fine from the fire department. In fact, she did charge us $500.00. Moreover, she added the following comment to the charge, “The fine from the fire department, crying wolf.” 3). We chose this property primarily because of the hot tub. Unfortunately, when we opened the hot tub cover it smelled like mold and the water was dingy green. We immediately advised the property owner and instead of apologizing or attempting to rectify the situation immediately, she said, “That’s weird, the guests that left used it.” We needed to insist that something be done, and although she did send someone out to change the water, it wasn’t until our last night stay that we could finally use it. This property owner should be ashamed of her greed and disregard for her tenants and the South Lake Tahoe residence, including the fire department who receive funding from legal vacation rental properties to ensure everyone is safe. She made our stay miserable and we hope no other renters risk suffering through a similar experience.

Amazing stay
This place is amazing. Really clean with a nice layout. Kitchen was stocked with everything you’d need. Backyard and hot tub access was very much appreciated. The host also allows dogs which made everything much easier than having to locate a dog sitter. 10/10 would recommend

Nice stay! Everything we needed was available. A bit deceiving because it is connected to their home and shares a front door. Didn’t feel as private as I was expecting. We also couldn’t seem to get the thermostat to work but they have been an us problem.

EXCELLENT Vacation with Large Dogs
Our vacation included two adults and 4 large high energy, well-trained dogs. The home was very clean and check in was smooth and easy. The owner has three dogs of her own and we were able to rotate the dogs in the backyard seamlessly. ** Her dogs are very friendly; ours are not always social so we chose to keep them separate. There was plenty of space for us to fit three large crates inside without feeling cramped. The hot tub is wonderful with a beautiful view. There is a full fridge, coffee pot and fireplace. The neighborhood is quiet and there is plenty of parking. Possibly my favorite aspect of the home is the trailhead (for Gunmount Trail) on the street; this allowed me to exercise my 15 month old puppy without interrupting the morning peace).

We had a great time in a great space!
We loved this place. We loved the location. The downstairs area has 2 nice bedrooms, sitting area and a cool deck out back with a hot tub. We didn't use it, but wish we had time to. It was clean and comfy. The kitchen was awesome - had everything we needed. There are 3 dogs upstairs, but they are super cute. I said hello to them. If you hate dogs, then this place is probably not for you though. There was a little barking, but the owners were super nice about it and we didn't mind Wish we brought our own pups! Easy pick up with uber/lyft and grocery is a few miles down road. I will be staying here again!

Nice Place near South Lake Tahoe
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here, and only spent the night after a work event. The space was clean, with a lockable door downstairs in the unit. I would recommend for those looking to stay near South Lake Tahoe. However, we only received check in information on the day of our arrival. This was a bit stressful for us, and we weren’t aware of the dogs in the unit as well. We could hear them barking and moving upstairs, and the owner also loved upstairs as well.

Read Carefully Before Booking
While we enjoyed our stay, it had very little to do with the property and more to do with the time we spent away from the cabin. Keep in mind you are only renting the lower level and do share the property with the owner. Some things you need to know upon arrival: 1. Check-in was easy and smooth, but you share an entrance with the property owner. It is slightly awkward walking in and realizing you don’t have much privacy. Not a huge deal, just something to keep in mind. 2. There are 3 older dogs on the property that were not friendly toward my children. They growled and bared their teeth at my 3 and 5 year-old and were also not fans of our two dogs. One of the dogs barked ALL NIGHT one evening and I have no idea why. It kept us awake and none of us slept. It is also a challenge to be outside at all because there is no partition between your space as the guest and the space shared with the owner. We often felt confined to our room because I didn’t feel comfortable having my children outside when I wasn’t sure what the three dogs would do. 3. It is HOT in the living area. There are fans in each room, but they are on a super low setting and we could not make them go any faster (could be user error, but it was VERY warm). We would have kept the back sliding door open, but the owner’s dogs came up onto the porch many times and we didn’t trust that they wouldn’t enter. There is no screen on the door, which would have been nice so we could keep it cooler inside. All in all, I would say this is a great place if you’re just in Tahoe for a short time and it’s just you and maybe one or two other adults without dogs. DO NOT bring your children and if you can, make sure to pack a fan to stay cool. We had no issues with the owner at all and she was very nice in all of the conversations we had via VRBO. Just want to make sure people know what the space is like so they can be prepared! We didn’t read the description well enough before we booked. Hoping to save others from the same issues.

Little Hideaway
Cool space that's near town but far enough out to where you can see the Milky Way clearly. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Stargazing in the hot tub was awesome and saw a few shooting stars. A few little quirks with the place but a really nice stay and Monica is a great host. Oh, and the water temp and pressure in the shower is amazing.

No complaints. This rental was downstairs in the home. It shares a common entry with the rest of the home but the lower level has a door to partition off the space which gives privacy. The kitchen and washer/dryer were nice to have, the bedrooms were clean and the spa was hot. The description and reviews are accurate. We enjoyed the stay.

Such a sweet home
This was a pretty spontaneous trip and the host was more than happy to accommodate. The space was clean and tidy and the host was so nice. But I have to say the big that really took my breath away was the view of the night sky from the home /neighborhood. The space will have everything you need. The hot tub was fantastic and the fireplace was glorious. A great stay!

Beautiful home with all you need for a Tahoe stay
The home was spacious and very clean. They were very thoughtful and made sure we had all the amenities for a comfortable stay (i.e., plenty of fresh towels, kitchen with all necessary appliances and basics). The home itself is beautiful, especially the hot tub on the deck overlooking the mountains. Our dogs also loved the big enclosed yard and enjoyed playing with the property owners' dogs. Overall an amazing, comfortable, enjoyable stay. We hope to be back soon!

Amazing experience
Easy check in process information was sent to me 2 hours before check in time. Completely private downstairs area very family friendly. Loved the access to the backyard & hot tub. Rooms & bathroom were decent sized and clean. Kitchen was well equipped with everything from pots, dishes, utensils, and glasses. The owner was very prompt on responding to all my questions & sending the property manager to help out. Felt right at home here would definitely stay again next time!

Poor communication, check-in, and unable to use shower
The location was great and the home itself was nice. Loved the backyard and the view from it, and the gas fireplace. However, the communication was second to worst I've ever had with VRBO property owners. Check-in/access information to the property was never updated on the app at all. The day of arrival, I messaged the owner asking about it, and she said we will get the access info "once it is clean from the guests checking out". That's it. I messaged her saying we were arriving about 10 minutes before check-in. Still no update. 8 minutes after check-in, I let her know I'm going to knock since there was a truck in the driveway (other tenant upstairs). He never answered the door. At this point, we need to use the restroom, we are tired from traveling and the morning, and we have two dogs in the car. 30 minutes after check-in (I screenshotted timestamps), we still haven't heard a single thing. The owner does not have a contact number posted, so all I can do is message her in the VRBO app. I call VRBO customer service and after several strings of being put on hold, the VRBO rep contacted the owner. She finally let us in and emailed us the access information about 40 minutes after. To me, the lack of communication is unprofessional and unacceptable, especially to weary travelers paying for a place to stay. Two other items of note: 1) There are urine stains in the carpet from dogs. They did a pretty good job at cleaning the place up regardless and it wasn't smelly or anything, but you could see them. That might just be a casualty of allowing dogs at the place. 2) We tried showering in the morning and could not turn it on. The faucet felt old, but didn't do much when we turned it or pulled it. We asked her about it early in the morning, but of course, she didn't respond until AFTER check out time. Zero help - so we didn't even get to shower. I would never come back here, and would advise anyone to stay away. It seems like my experience was far from the only one like this, reading through other comments.

Great stay
This house was beautiful and very cozy. Yes, as other reviews say you can see the Tenants living room when entering the house and while it’s a bit awkward once you get over that it’s a smooth ride from there. The tenant did wake up early and make noise but it’s the regular noise you can expect from living in apartments for example. Nothing too crazy. The views from inside the home are very nice you can see the mountains from the living room. The couch and both beds are comfortable, the tv is placed very nicely and the jacuzzi felt great. Overall I enjoyed my stay and the owner always replied to my messages at a timely matter. I’d definitely stay here again.

Fabulous pet friendly home
My family and I are very happy with this rental. We love that it is fenced in and we were able to leave our dog for a few hours while we explored Southlake Tahoe. The home is comfortable we had a smart TV with major subscriptions already signed in so that we can relax as a family like we do at home. Would definitely reconsider this place next time we visit South Lake Tahoe.

We did not receive checking information until pretty late in the game. Upstairs tenant, with whom entrance is actually shared, was able to talk us through the process. After that, everything was great except for the smoke, which certainly is not the hosts fault. An air purifier would have been a welcome addition.

The unit worked out great for what we needed. Communication/response was lacking but we got over that hurdle and the rest of the stay was fine. We needed to be close to others so this worked perfectly for that. It’s a bit far if you like to walk to get your coffee or go to shops, etc.

There was no parking spot, had to park on the street. The shower drains very slow. The people upstairs wake up early and you can hear their footsteps. It just felt a little weird sharing the same entrance with the people who live there. There was also no AC.

First time VRBO
We had a hell of a time getting the code. The guy who lives upstairs had to call the owner. It was pretty clean minus the shower area. We know it was cleaned....we were there when they were there cleaning. The fan in the living room didn't work and the fireplace was on...we sent a message asking about the two but never got a response. It was pretty hot so we opened the windows and it eventually cooled off. The fire alarm went off for 45 minutes also. We made the best of it. This was my experience and it could be different for others. If I was to stay in Tahoe again I'd definitely try another route or option.

The check in time is 4pm, the guests arrived before the cleaners were done cleaning. If they would have waited until I messaged them that it was ready, they would have received the door code. As for the alarm, I still have no idea why it off

Don't Do It
I’m always hesitant to leave a negative review. I work in digital and understand the impact, so to leave a poor review isn’t something I take lightly; however, I think it’s important that 1) future guests know what they’re in for and 2) the host can maybe learn, grow and be better in his or her role. First of all, the only somewhat negative reviews I had read about the property referenced the need for the house to be updated and the other occupant getting up early. We could care less about those things. It was our first time visiting South Lake Tahoe and we were all excited. We arrived in town after traveling for about 14 hours. We knew check in wasn’t til 4 and decided to have a late lunch/early dinner. I was concerned that I hadn’t heard from our host, and had started to contact VRBO, but decided against it. Since this was a shared space, I assumed the person living in the other section would help us out. It’s about 5 til 4 and we're driving to the property when I got a message that it wasn’t ready yet. We received this message just minutes before check in. So we stop at a grocery store parking lot. Now, when you've been traveling all day and are exhausted, about the only thing you want is a place to lie down. So we say, "Okay- when will it be available?" The response? "No idea." About an hour later, I sent her another note saying if she wasn't sure when the property would be ready, that I'd prefer to get a hotel. No response. So we decide to drive past the property to see if there was a cleaning crew there. Nothing going on at all. We go back to the store parking lot and I send another message letting her know that my youngest son had a horrible headache, and really needed to lie down. (He was miserable with a migraine.) My husband also had a nosebleed from the altitude, so things were heading south. Her response? "You probably won't be able to find a hotel." Really? We're exhausted, my son is miserable, my husband has a bloody nose and we're parked at a grocery store parking lot with no where to go. So I go online, secure a hotel, and reply to her snotty note that we actually did find a hotel. That's when she tried calling, but I was driving and didn't answer. Long story short? She NEVER had a check in time for us. She didn't care a bit about our situation until I told her I found a hotel. Best decision I made was getting out of that situation. I know it was the 4th- but don't rent your property if you can't manage it on a holiday.

The rental is downstairs from the caretaker which is connected to their home. The caretakers take up almost the entire driveway and didn’t leave any lights on the porch or parking area at night which didn’t feel welcoming. You can here them walking around upstairs. We Didn’t use the spa because We didn’t know if we would disturb the caretakers upstairs as it was a weekday of our stay. Other than that it was really clean. But probably wouldn’t stay there again! Wish they left instructions or guidelines regarding rental.
