Lovely cabin
Beautiful quiet location. Very close to the forest, but unfortunately there is a large stream that runs across the trail that leads to GWNF. Otherwise, a nearly perfect place! The host's communication was great as well. We enjoyed the pool table (can be table tennis as well), and the variety of hikes a short drive away. Some of the furniture had animal hair on it from a previous guest. A deeper clean would have been appreciated, but it wasn't a major concern. We will consider visiting again in the future!

Valentine's Long Weekend Getaway!

Another great Christmas getaway
This is the second time we’ve stayed at the cabin over Christmas. It’s just right for me, my hubby, and our two dogs. We didn’t even go to the downstairs- but if we had a bigger group, the house would easily accommodate 4 more people. Location is great! Up on a mountain where you can’t hear cars or people noise. Plenty of room to roam with our pups. They loved all of the “sniffs” and diving for critters in the fields. It’s just a short walk to the GWNF for even more hiking opportunities. To say the kitchen is stocked would be an understatement! Everything you need except for perishables. All the pots, pans, dishes, spices, etc you could ever want! The bath is also stocked with a fun variety of soap, shampoo, lotions… And there were cozy throws everywhere to cuddle up with. Carla even decorated for the holidays. Such sweet, thoughtful touches made it a perfect home-away from home. The house is spotless. One extra-special touch - the neighbor stopped by with Homemade Christmas cookies She’s starting a baking business and they were wonderful!! We are thinking to make this our new holiday tradition.

Absolutely gorgeous location!
Very cute house with plenty of space for family to gather together comfortably. My kids really loved the downstairs with the bunk bed area, pool table, full bath & very comfy couches. There's a river on property and access to national forrest. The walks were amazing!

Beautiful calm getaway
Our family enjoyed the cabin and property very much. The kids loved the downstairs bunk beds and hang out area I enjoyed the walks in the woods every morning . The back roads were so pretty with the leaves. It was a nice slow down . We will return for a longer stay next time . Thank you for the humbling memories we were able to make.

Mountain Paradise
The property was just as it was advertised on Vrbo. The property had easy access to hiking trails which is exactly what me and my boyfriend were looking for. It was a gorgeous house with everything you could ask for. There was plenty of activities on and around the property that you don't need to really leave to go out. We stopped in town before arriving to buy a few groceries, and there was alot of basic necessites also provided by the owner which is amazing. Overall the house and property are amazing.

Relaxation
My family had the most relaxing long weekend. My husband, son-in-law and grandson participated in a reenactment at Cedar Creek Battlefield while my daughter and two of her daughters stayed with me at the cabin. It was so peaceful with nothing to worry about. There were plenty of staples to go along with the food we brought with us so we never had to leave the cabin. My husband and I will definitely be coming back in the future with other members of our family. We all are interested in the Civil War and this is a perfect location to visit soo many places.

Siblings trip
My brothers and I all struggle to keep in touch as adults and booked a weekend trip at the midpoint between all our homes. We loved this place! It was so cute and surrounded by beautiful nature. Close by to lots of hikes and creeks and the Shenandoah valley. Our dog had a blast too!

A wonderful getaway
I chose this charming cabin for a fall weekend getaway. Property manager Carla contacted me in advance of my arrival to confirm arrangements. I communicated changes to her (added a guest and decided to bring the pups along) and she took care of amending the booking promptly. The cabin is exactly as described. It is furnished thoughtfully and there were really nice touches provided (a delicious bottle of wine, coffee, extra soaps/toiletries and more). The location is stunningly beautiful (Half Moon Mountain is awe inspiring). The home was clean, beds comfortable and lots of games/recreational equipment are available. Especially enjoyed the cornhole boards). As mentioned in other reviews, it’s a great idea to arrive with all you’ll need for your stay as the drive back to grocery stores/market takes a while. I was prepared for that and never had to leave during my stay. Nothing but positive things to say about my his home. I would certainly reserve it again (hopefully for a longer period next time).

Beautiful and comfortable!
House is really nice on a big beautiful property, lots of amenities, activities, and kitchen supplies. Great open view of the night sky (just need to cover or unscrew the security lights if stargazing). Beds were very comfortable. The only downside was having to take trash with us when we left and not having access to a laundry machine. But other than that it was great and loved that we could bring our pup!

Fantastic out of the way house
I was looking for an out of the way house for a break before the school year started with the family and Half Moon perfectly fit the bill. A bit of a drive from the interstate, but a perfect few days in nature with breakfast on the porch, daily walks around the property, short drives to the farmers market. The kids loved the downstairs bunkroom/ gaming space (they actually said it was their space, and the parents weren't allowed downstairs).

Most welcoming!
We couldn't have felt more welcomed than at Half Moon! The kitchen was as others said very well stocked and although we did take water, the tap water was fine. There were books and magazines for all interests and games were plenty. My husband and I very much enjoyed the pool table. We were looking for privacy and peace and that's what we found. Carla was very helpful with advice regarding our visit to DC also, which was really appreciated. I would gladly stay again and take my family and rent both of the cabins. Peaceful getaway
We enjoyed a weekend getaway here for my twins' 2nd birthday. We had a lovely time exploring the property, walking along the road and throwing rocks into the streams. The house is fairly easy to childproof but we did have to put away a lot of knick knacks and cute decor. The kitchen has everything you need. I wish the trash removal was included in the cleaning fee. We had 5 people in our car which was already packed with kid stuff so we had to stuff every corner. Hit up Gravel Springs Grocery down the road for the trash can pizza. And we also enjoyed our visit to Star of the Valley Winery, great vino and great views. Something at the house really flared up my allergies (normally I don't have problems). In June in the Shenandoah you will have dust and pollen; the property is a farm house and we're out in the country so that is all expected. Unfortunately my symptoms were worse inside the house, it was pretty dusty. Graden's Market has Benadryl if you're really struggling. All in all, beautiful property, friendly folks around Star Tannery, wish we could have stayed longer.

Remote cabin,
This cabin is lovely, it's cozy & I loved the fireplace and a large deck. It's also pretty well stoked. It's remote, which can be a plus if you want to get away from the crowds, but it takes a while to get in and out the area if you want to go places. The gravel road leading to the house is in great condition. A few things that I didn't enjoy much... 1) Mostly, poor communication. Someone just showed up to mow the lawn one morning, scared me and the dog - no warning at all. The cleaning crew/management showed up an hour before check out time and were driving up and down the road, not sure why...to create the pressure for me to check out faster? 2) The trash policy: I did not have much room in my small sedan, it was a hustle, and I would rather pay extra for someone else to do it. 3)There's some noise coming from the roof on a windy day, but it is not too bad. 4) The cabinet with pots and pans is a total mess, impossible to find anything. Overall, it's as described, decent choice for the price.

It was great. Pool table, ping pong, games for inside and out and an incredible view. You are definitely away from it all there. We had never worked with VRBO before and we had to learn that we had to work on line for the entire process. We were concerned at first but it all worked out. The owner was wonderful. Quiet and secluded
We had a great time. Lots of open space. Directly adjacent to George Washington National Forest. Great for finding a hike, or just spending the day at the cabin. The kids loved the games that were available. The house was cozy and well stocked— we felt right at home. The property manager was very responsive to what few questions we had.

Charming, quiet, and more than advertised!
As you drive down Rte 604 and Rte 601 you think - Oh boy, what have I done.... Then you arrive.... This place is a charming cottage on a huge open field with the mountain nestled behind you. Honestly, the owner down plays the grounds. 200 Half Moon is a 2 story home with a charming K,L,BR,FB open floor plan upstairs and a huge, gated deck on the front. The lower level has yet another open floor plan with additional LR, FB and a unique bunk bed arrangement. The downstairs is a walkout with cement patio right out to the field. Perfect for a big family gathering! Internet was satisfactory for calls and video but not enough for gaming. The lighted pavillion was a wonderful surprise. Perfect for star gazing! The only downside that we found was that it was a bit of a drive for groceries. A wonderfully.rustic charming spot. Thank you so much for allowin us to share this spot. We will be back!

We enjoyed the remote cabin-like place. Lots of nice amenities and extra touches. Very nicely decorated and lots of cozy throws. Our only “complaint” was the metal roof was very noisy with winds being high. It did affect sleep considerably. Overall we enjoyed our stay but honestly the roof was a deterrent.

Wonderful, very relaxing
This was a lovely home set way back in the country. If you like nature, this is the perfect retreat. We never did see any wildlife around the property, but the "noise" of nature was wonderful. We did not find a lot of local activities, which at times is nice. If you just want a beautiful oit of the way place to relax, this is ideal. Very well equipped and comfortable accomodations.

Really beautiful and quiet
The place was really pretty and remote. We had a really nice stay’. The cabin is so adorable and has everything you need really. I think my only major issues was the wind (which is out of anyone’s control lol). At night it sounded like the roof was caving in because it was so windy and our car alarm went off almost every hour so being so remote it made me really nervous at night with my family . I assume the wind or animals did it it just got exhausting Just keep that in mind if staying in the winter. I also am really sensitive to dust so had issues w some of the blankets but no big deal! It had everything you need and really is beautiful! I bet fall is absolutely stunning.

The cabin has a funky, eclectic vibe that both of us really loved. It was quiet and cozy. Both puppies loved running around in the field out front. In four days we only turned on the tv for one football game. Other than that it was nothing but blessed silence. We are both looking forward to our next visit.

This property was everything we expected and then some. Communication was seamless and when the owner discovered we had gotten engaged on this trip, her congratulations were so genuine and sincere. We enjoyed it so much, we opted to spend one entire day of our trip just hanging out at the cabin, we weren’t bored for a second. The throw blankets on the furniture were literally the best throw blankets I’ve ever covered up with (this is important because I’m definitely a throw blanket snob!) We can’t wait to come back and bring our kids with us next time!

Great stay!
Really enjoyed the properties, my family stayed in both cabins. Myself and boyfriend with Gramma and aunt in the smaller one. Only downfall was the second bedroom is not seperated from the downstairs game room area by any sort of door and that downstairs bathroom is so super small with nowhere to hang towels or put toiletry items. Absolutely loved all the games provided for indoor and outdoor use, the property, the picnic area, the trails around the place. Really felt like the bigger cabin was much nicer, more modern, and had a better stocked kitchen.... but the land around the smaller cabin is much better with better views. Beds were awesome. Really sad there was no fire pit.

just the worst owners
I'm going to make an extremely long story short. I wasn't even going to review this place, but the owner reviewed me so oh well. Here I go. We almost had to get the cops involved, and I did make and win a suit in VRBO about the treatment I received. The owner sent someone over unannounced, at first she said he wanted to change a filter in the basement, but then made excuse after excuse to go through every room in the house, including bedrooms, checking in on the place. When I complained the owner tripled down because I said she could enter the property. Sending someone over without notice is not all right, VRBO agreed with us. I handed over the messages between the owner and I because instead of apologizing she then started saying we had more people there than we advertized. We didn't. I have and handed over some of the text messages my brother and I had while planning this trip. Everything referenced 4 adults and a kid. Our receipts all have 4 adults and a kid from our activities. Same with our text messages and emails planning out this trip. WE also had pictures and cameras on our RV -- so we also have continuous video footage proving our case. SO SHE KICKS US OUT. We get a full refund and profuse apologies from VRBO. Supremely unprofessional -- but a gorgeous spot, lol.

Peaceful and relaxing
If you are looking for a modern cabin in the woods then this is the place for you. My son's and I were able to play pool and table tennis in the basement as well as cornhole outside. My wife and I would sit on the covered porch and enjoy our coffee in the morning and even got to see a bear walk down the gravel road. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location for hiking!
My husband and I were here for three nights. As the other reviewers have said, the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need....just bring your main courses. No need to bring condiments, cooking utensils, dinnerware or silverware. We enjoyed eating dinner on the porch. As I read above, we did encounter a lot of dead bugs inside, and Half Moon could really use a good deep cleaning. Otherwise I would have given it more stars! We enjoyed our stay.

We spoke on several occasions and offered to have our service come to the property to show you how to use the TVs. Nothing was mentioned about bugs or cleanliness - we certainly would have addressed your concerns as we clean our properties thoroughly between guests and deep clean the house every quarter. Quiet and Amazing
We enjoyed the remote area where we could just hike, relax and enjoy a departure from the crazy lives we live. The Appalachian Trail was just down the road and a great little river runs just down the drive from the property. We had a blast!

Family visit & getaway
It was an easy & pleasant experience. My husband & I were staying with our dog to visit with my family & celebrate our wedding anniversary early. It was a great time & a great place to stay! The only things I would say is that it wasn't as clean as I thought it'd be & there needs to be some updating in renovation....the front doors & sliding glass door have gaps in them & don't seal tightly & there were more bugs in the house. Other than that, no other complaints.

A nice retreat in the country
We had a nice stay at this cabin. It had plenty of space and we loved the walking trails. The kitchen has plenty of space. We had to improvise with some of the pots and pans to make our dinner but there was definitely plenty to work with and the new stove was a plus! Overall relaxing stay!
