Casa Carlos, daterend uit het begin van de 19e eeuw, is een van de weinige huizen in Taos beschikbaar voor verhuur die is opgenomen in zowel het nationaal register van historische plaatsen (Department of Interior van de Verenigde Staten) en het register van culturele eigendommen van New Mexico. Het voormalige huis en atelier van Charles "Carlos" Berninghaus, een bekende Taos-kunstenaar en zoon van Oscar Berninghaus, die een van de grondleggers was van de kunstcolonie van Taos in de jaren 1920. Dit prachtige exemplaar van een adobe casita werd authentiek gerestaureerd en fraai aangelegd door de voormalige eigenaar, de stichter van Taos 'beroemde El Monte Sagrado Resort. Het interieur, exterieur en terrein zijn zorgvuldig bewaard gebleven en hebben er methodisch toe bijgedragen dat dit huis een schat is voor terugkerende gasten die Casa Carlos hun "thuis ver van huis" noemen. Een zeldzaam kenmerk in de hoge woestijn is de weelderige tuin van het huis, met een prachtige vijver, sijpelend water, schaduwbomen, diverse en bloeiende planten, bezoeken van vele prachtige soorten vogels en een grasveld. Een privé-hot tub, meerdere zithoeken en een barbecue op gas op gas zijn ook kenmerken van de tuin. De huidige eigenaren hebben het huis opnieuw ingericht in koloniale tijd, met Mexicaanse, Indiase, Indonesische / Nederlandse en Roemeense antieke meubels, evenals originele kunst- en printfotografie uit Mexico en het zuidwesten.

Het huis is een gemakkelijke wandeling naar de stad en Taos Plaza voor maaltijden, of maak gebruik van de volledig uitgeruste moderne keuken van het huis om te dineren, of buiten te grillen en buiten in de tuin te dineren. Het huis is gevuld met spellen, puzzels, dvd's / films en een kabel / Blue Ray-entertainmentsysteem voor gezins- en ontspanningsactiviteiten in de prachtig ingerichte woonkamer met een plafond met gewelfde plafonds, een kiva-open haard en veel natuurlijk licht.

Great getaway, wonderful location

We loved our stay at Casa Carlos. What an amazing, beautiful and comfortable home. We enjoyed all the treasures throughout the house. Quirky art, crafts, furnishings - a feast for the eyes.We slept well, too, in this quiet neighborhood, and made good use of the relaxing back yard complete with pond and hot tub. Can’t wait to return and recommend 100%.

Holiday get away at Casa Carlos

Everything was top notch! The property was so cool - historical with modern updates and comfort. Well stocked kitchen, record player with great mix of records to play, hot tub, super close to the old square - couldn't have asked for more. Both property management and caretaker were super attentive, communicative and nice.10/10 would stay here again.

Charming Casita Close to Town

This property has so much character. Lots of local/indigenous art. Very well equipped kitchen. Large comfortable spaces to hang out. The best part for us, though, was the back yard. A hot tub, a beautifully maintained garden with a small pond and waterfall. Several places to sit with tables and chairs. Short walk to town and short drive to many interesting sites and restaurants. Safe neighborhood. We loved it here.

Amazing Place

We loved the home and had an amazing time. It is beautiful and the decor was very much New Mexico. It is in a great area where you can walk safely to the plaza. The garden is beautiful and tranquil. We had breakfast and coffee outside. We look forward to being back!

Amazing place and location.

Casa Carlos was the perfect spot for my family of 3. Very easy check in and out process. Close to downtown shops and restaurants. Easy drive to Taos Ski valley. The place is exactly as pictured. Very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub and everything Casa Carlos had to offer. We are already planning our next trip back to Taos and will definitely stay here again.

Great Location

Easy access to downtown and shopping. Great character and cosy. One issue is the bed in the main bedroom. It slopes to the middle and it is very firm. If that’s your preference, then I would say it is fine. It could use another mattress and topper to make this stay an A+.

Mother & Daughters Getaway

My sister and I take our 92-year-old mother somewhere every year for a getaway, This year we chose Taos, since Mom hadn't been there in over 50 years. We had a lovely time walking the old town squares of Taos and Santa Fe. This home is walkable to several areas and close to a great grocery store. We walked every day, came home for a quick soak in the hot tub, then had a quiet dinner every evening. The home was sparkling clean and well stocked with everything we needed, as well as great instructions for using the amenities (fireplace, hot tub, etc.). We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Taos. The charming, authentic decor really got us into the mood to enjoy the area, which a more modern hotel or condo wouldn't have done. Five Stars all the way! Just be prepared to navigate in Taos with it's narrow streets and odd corners, it's great to have a place where you can walk and not drive (or have to park) very much! Don't miss the drive up to the ski valley, it's so beautiful in the mountains!

Old Adobe Charm Minutes from Everything

This place is gorgeous. My husband, our two sons and I stayed and we loved it. Every last inch of the is place oozes old Taos beauty and charm. The garden is spectacular, and a wonderful place to spend time with friends. I would 100% stay here again.

Charming Casa Carlos

Property was lovely. The location was perfect. The caretakers, Bill and Linda were great. The kitchen and pantry were well stocked. Plenty of towels. The Casa did get a little warm for us during the day but might be fine for others (76 degrees). The indoor seating options were not that comfortable and the bed was too firm for us. But we are older and have arthritis so it might be fine for younger folks.

Overall the house is wonderful. Great location. Close to town but very quiet. Very attractive, clean, great outdoor space. Furniture cute and authentic but could use a comfy chair. All in all an absolutely great house. Management company great as well. Would love to come back!

NM Excursion

This place was the best we’ve experienced in all the years we’ve rented houses either with VRBO or AB&B!! Great location near village center, bed was great, everything you needed was available. Coffee maker, utensils, paper products(tp, paper towels) etc. lots of space with 2nd bed room, back yard garden was fantastic. Very quiet for eating ,reading, and just relaxing with the soft sound of the fountain/ pond!!! Definitely recommend this place and we will most likely rent again if we come back this way

Loved the place!

The Casa was very nice. It was clean and I loved having the backyard for the doggies with real grass! The home was so authentic - I loved all of the NM style furniture. I would definitely come back!
