Blue Mesa 4 sits in the Blue Mesa building on Sunset Plaza, the most sought-after address in Telluride's Mountain Village core. Shops and restaurants are at the door, the lifts are across the plaza, and the whole village is pedestrian — closer to an alpine village in Europe than a Colorado resort. In 2023 the owners gutted and rebuilt the kitchen and every bathroom.

LOCATION
The plaza is the heart of the village core, and the building stands directly on it. That means you are inside the village rather than a shuttle ride from it: dinner, a coffee, a ski shop, or a lift are all a matter of stepping outside, in ski boots or otherwise.

Winter is the obvious draw, but this address earns its keep year-round. Wednesday evenings in summer bring the concert series to the grass adjacent to the plaza — hear it from the deck or walk down with a chair. The hiking and biking trail network starts here, and the golf club driving range and clubhouse are a short walk. In shoulder season the core stays open and quiet, which is when a lot of repeat guests prefer it.

A note on the location: with the plaza right outside, there is a bar and restaurant two floors below. You will hear it in the evenings, more so on event and concert nights. It is the trade-off for being in the center of the village, and most guests consider it a fair one. Light sleepers should ask us about our quieter properties away from the core.

THE 2023 RENOVATION
The kitchen was rebuilt from the floor up — quartz counters, new tile and cabinetry, gas range, and a breakfast bar facing the living room. It is equipped for real cooking, and a group of eight can put a full dinner on the table.

Every bathroom was replaced in the same renovation. The top-floor bath is the centerpiece and serves both upstairs bedrooms: a full steam shower, an oversized soaking tub deep enough to actually sit in, a double vanity, a private water closet, and tile throughout. It reads more like a spa than a condo bathroom.

THE HOME
The great room rises two full stories to a wall of windows, with a gas fireplace, a deep sectional, and hardwood floors. The dining table seats eight with four more stools at the bar, so a full group eats together.

The covered deck off the primary bedroom looks over Sunset Plaza to the San Sophia Ridge, with a pair of bar stools — tea in the morning, something colder in the afternoon. This is the view that sells the room: the ridge catches the last light and holds alpenglow long after the plaza has gone into shadow. A second, open deck off the living room has a small table for two and the gas BBQ. The community hot tub is a few steps away.

The third bedroom was originally an open loft. The owners enclosed it with windows that open or close to the great room, plus a full-length blackout blind, so it works as a private bedroom while keeping the light and the airy connection when you want it.

WHAT'S PROVIDED
Hair dryers in every bathroom, LATHER© bath amenities, Charmin© or Seventh Generation© paper goods, laundry detergent and dryer sheets, and kitchen basics including dish soap, dishwasher pods, and paper towels. The home is stocked generously before arrival; additional restocking during your stay may carry a fee.

GETTING AROUND
On skis: out the door and one flight down to the gear room, where you have an assigned locker. Change there, step onto the plaza, and you are at the top of Lift 1 — the Meadows lift, running four-person chondola cabins. Click in and ski away, or take a few steps up to the traverse and reach the base of Lift 4 in about a minute. At the end of the day you ski back to the plaza and leave everything in the locker. Boots and wet gear never come upstairs.

On foot: the gondola station is a three-minute walk, door to door, free and running year-round. Four minutes on it reaches the Market and the liquor store. The other direction carries you over Station San Sophia and down into Telluride for dinner, shopping, and the festivals. In summer it takes mountain bikes on exterior racks, so you can ride over and load up.

That covers almost every trip guests make here, and most never rent a car. For the places that are not in the core — outlying Mountain Village neighborhoods, a trailhead, the golf clubhouse, dinner at one of the hotels — Dial-A-Ride is app-based and runs door to door; your stay includes 4 complimentary rides per day, with additional rides $15 each. Zipcar keeps 24/7 self-service rentals stationed locally if you want a vehicle for a day.
