A Very Unique Experience - the Wild West
If you’re looking for a unique experience and want to feel like a cowboy back in the day, this is it! Please note that you need a truck to get to this place, we had to use the four-wheel-drive on our truck. Don’t come in a car! It’s a good 30 or 40 minute drive to Big Bend from here.

You do NOT need a truck to come to Ten Bits Ranch. We do over 3,500 room nights a year and 75% of our guests are in cars, many of those being small rental cars.

Cool concept
Pros off the grid, remote location, well-stocked and well-maintained common cantina/kitchen area for all guests (really enjoyed meeting and visiting with the other guests while at the cantina); great views of the desert mountains, beautiful night sky. Beds were very new and super comfy. Cons no cell service (duh, it's remote), several wifi networks but ONLY one provided internet access and had to log on unsuccessfully to the others before finding it and then drop when you walked out of range, possibly due to data usage maxed out by guests streaming video even though we were warned not to. After several hours of running AC the first day, room was still like an oven, air filter was completely clogged, cleaned it and things cooled off. Guest shouldn't have to do maintenance. Nowhere to put your stuff in the room (if you bring more than 1 suitcase like hikers do). Cobwebs everywhere in the room. It's a desert, I get it, but for the love housekeeping should do some house keeping. Shower was disgusting, mildew all over. Towels were white but some were brown-stained, I'm sure washed thoroughly but use some bleach or cycle them out when they get that way. Thin walls and noisy neighbors on the backside of our annex - really sucked (both hearing impaired), they left their porch light on at night which ruined looking at stars unless you wanted to hike away. Couldn't change our door code (0123 is not secure), probably all the same. Honestly minor complaints, but gotta be honest.

Memorable Stay in Terlingua
We enjoyed our stay at Ten Bits in the Bank! The property is beautiful and they have created a charming little town with a dramatic Big Bend backdrop. The county road was accessible, but be prepared to go slow and get dusty. Communication and check-in was good, accommodations perfectly comfortable. Definitely recommend and would stay here again.

We were only able to enjoy the place to sleep so for us it was expensive place to sleep but other than that if you have more time to rest this place is really great and you will feel like you got your money's worth. The community kitchen and space was really cool too.

Ten Bits Stay over
Overall Ten Bits is a very good place to stay, very quiet, off the grid, and beautiful surrounding area. The rooms are rustic but more than adequate, as was the Wi-Fi. The cantina refrigerators were less than stellar with quite a bit of what appeared to be old food left by customers. We did not use it but it was readily available. We had a change of plans and had to leave a day early but would stay there again if in the area. The newer units have AC but the unit we stayed in did no have any. Just beware if this if booking in warmer weather.

Great stop-over to Big Bend
We loved the clean room and great communication from the hosts. We sat on the porch until well after sunset watching the bats as darkness covered Hen Egg Mountain. Our only negative was the loudness of the neighbors’ TV—this room is part of a duplex, and the walls seemed paper-thin. But it was a gorgeous property and prime location for an early entry to Big Bend.

Beautiful little cabin community out in what feels like the middle of no where west Texas. Absolutely stunning view of a mountain for sunset. Whole area well maintained. Cabins are great. Dirt road was muddy after the night of rain but wasn’t near as bad as I would of expected it to be (we were in a small 2 wheel drive ford ranger). Tons of land if you feel like exploring a little. It was awesome to see the Milky Way and the dark night sky! Would 10/10 recommended to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Lovely stay in the desert
Our family of two adults and two teens stayed for two nights at the ranch. The ranch is so charming and the scenery and views are amazing. We loved watching the sunset from our cabin's front porch. The room was very comfortable. We were a bit surprised to find the tap water is non-potable though bottled water is provided. We hate using disposable water bottles so had we known in advance, we could have brought several large reusable jugs. Overall, we highly recommend Ten Bits for anyone visiting the Big Bend area and we hope to return someday.

perfect sunsets
This part of Texas has been special to me and my family for over 30 years. My youngest son (age 8) and my dad (age 78) had a great long weekend hiking in the park, 4 wheeling in the back country, swimming in the Rio Grand at the Hot Springs and sitting by the fire, counting stars and satellites and, of course, solving the world's problems while toasting our own brilliant insights. If that sounds fun to you and yours, there is no better place to make your base your trip.

I had high expectations and they were exceeded!
We came to see Big Bend and I read reviews for so many lodging options. I saw the amazing reviews for Ten Bits, so I had high expectations. They were exceeded! The cabins are so unique but also super modern inside and clean. The property feels remote but is not far from town. It was so peaceful. And nothing beats the stars at night!! This was an excellent “home base” for our Big Bend trip. I would love to come back some day. Stop reading and book it!

Off the grid!!
Ten Bits is exactly like the listing showed. Quiet secluded! Great cantina to have self served breakfast and we cooked our dinner there too. Rain and clouds didn’t allow us night star gazing but our last morning I awoke early and was treated to a beautiful sky of stars. Believe the listing about the road!! We had rain and a very intense 2 mile drive back to the main highway. Thanks for a great few days away from everything!

Beautiful location!
Well worth the 2 miles of rocky road to get there! The views are awesome and the night is black making for a gorgeous sky full of stars. We stayed in The Bank and it was comfortable and clean. The common kitchen area was well stocked with coffee, cereal, milk, bagels, cream cheese, etc. More cabins are under construction. Each cabin has a porch with nice rockers to enjoy the view after spending our days in the parks. We will be back!

Beautiful property near Big Bend
While we were only at Ten Bits Ranch for a night it was a perfect start to our trip. We happened to arrive at sunset and the whole ranch looked like it was straight out of a move set. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels. Great stay!

The perfect Big Bend getaway
First off, this is where I’m staying for all of my future Big Bend trips, period. The property is up on a spot perfectly nestled between stone spires with far off views of buttes and mesas from all of the porches. My GPS’s google maps directions matched the property owner’s directions perfectly from headed there from San Antonio. The accommodations are clean and extremely well kept. The property is absolutely adorable, a perfect little old western town with fire pits and little buildings to admire. The cantina had two large fridge-freezers for storage and there were small microwaves and fridges in the room. It was supplied with bagels and oatmeal and coffee and breakfast bars, condiments for cooking too. All of the appliances worked fine and theres a grill outside. The cantina does not have air conditioning which didn’t bother us but for those who would mind it you can eat in your air conditioned cabin instead. The beds were clean and soft, the water pressure and temperature held for us both every day. There are no bright lights onsite so as per the owner’s suggestion, we had flashlights to wander at night and admire the stars. The drive up does go through a winding unpaved road but it is very well kept and we had no problems with a 2WD truck getting on and off the property. The property owner sends a comprehensive packet of everything you need to know before you go! This was such an easy and relaxing trip for us. Cannot wait to go back.

Great place to stay!
We absolutely loved this place! It was about 20 minutes from Big Bend National Park which was perfect! The “cantina” was well stocked with any kitchen type things you’d need! The last bit of the drive to get there, you are on a pretty rough dirt road. Regular vehicles can make it, but be prepared for it to be bumpy. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was. I could have sat on the front porch, in those rocking chairs, looking at the views for days!

Too Remote
In theory, Ten Bits is a great idea but it was too remote and far removed from everything for us. The road getting to it is rock and gravel which is only suitable for off road vehicles or trucks. Also, it is not convenient to any facilities/activities such as restaurants or gas or groceries or Big Bend. Definitely a place that you need to take everything you want to eat, drink, etc. in with you as it is too far to return to Terlingua just for dinner, etc. It would have been nice if the Cantina had been air conditioned as it was too hot for dining of any kind. I will say that the stars were amazing and if someone is wanting an isolated, quiet and remote get-away, this just might be the place for them.

Small rental cars come to the ranch almost every day. You just need to go slow. Big Bend National Park entrance is 20 minutes away. Restaurants and grocery stores are 15 minutes away. The rooms have AC, the Cantina does not. Some people cannot handle remote locations and want the sounds, neighbors and feel of city. If that is you, it is best to stay at one of the properties in town. Ten Bits Ranch is the opposite of a city.

Great property
We had a great time staying in The Bank at Ten Bits Ranch. The pictures were accurate. I had worries that the "off-grid" nature of the arrangements would mean "no-grid" at least some of the time, but we never had an outage or any problem with power. The place was very clean and that's a hard thing to maintain in the desert with so much dust in the air. I thought sharing a kitchen would be weird too, but it was never crowded and I enjoyed chatting with the occasional person I saw there (usually getting coffee in the mornings). We were pleased with our stay and will stay there again when we go back to Big Bend.

Our stay in God's country
If your looking for a peaceful stay which is "off the beaten path" then this is the place to go. It is quaint, not luxurious, but there is everything that you would need. The public cantina was a nice place to relax for breakfast, or whatever else you may what to eat. Sunrise & sunsets were beautiful. Star filled skies were also beautiful. It is DARK at night. A flashlight is strongly advised if you do venture out. The road/drive to Ten Bits Ranch is rugged but NOT horrible. Just take your time. Local dining options are not plentiful, so if you haver a chance to bring food, you may wanna consider that. You can prepare meals in the cantina.

We spent two nights in The Bank. It met and exceeded our expectations. Ten Bits Ranch is conveniently located to Big Bend Park. The Bank was clean and furnished with SW decor and furniture.. We sat out on the porch both nights and watched the brilliant stars. Other families enjoyed a fire in the fire pit. The communal breakfast was great. Access was simple and easy. Be prepared and aware of the two mile drive on the dirt road.to the Ranch. We had an SUV and it was fine.

Magical Anniversary escape
My wife and I came out to Ten Bits to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We stayed in the Bank. We were awestruck by the beauty of area and the character of the ranch. This was our first trip to the Big Bend area and we will definitely be coming back with our kids. We are also looking into having my entire family come out with all of our kids to enjoy the area and see some of the prettiest stars I have ever seen.

Our Stay at Ten Bits
My husband and I absolutely adored our stay at Ten Bits Ranch. We stayed at "the Bank". The room was clean and very cutely decorated. We also loved the community kitchen and cooked dinner both nights we were there. The views were absolutely spectacular. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We will definitely be back.

Amazing property! We absolutely loved the shared kitchen/dining hall concept! Having brought all of our food, and plenty of place to store it, we never had to eat out! We stayed at 'The Bank', a short walk over to get coffee in the morning. Gorgeous views, and convenient to Big Bend National Park, it's a great find! Thank you for a fabulous stay!

One of a kind
Neat little “Old West Town” style property just outside of Terlingua. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but worth the drive. Our room—The Bank—was clean and tidy and perfect for what we came to do, hit Big Bend for the weekend. Check in via code is quick and convenient. The concept of the 1800s town motif is really neat and well done. My friend and I were both impressed and we agreed we’d come back. Just a neat place.

I found this property and it looked like a great place to stay close to BBNP and fitting for myself, husband and daughter. The ranch is quiet, the rooms are set up well and having access to a communal kitchen was great!

Unable to find the property. Poor directions given. While looking for the dirt road we tried to call the property but no cell service in the area. Ended up driving 2.5 hours to Van Horn after we gave up looking.

David, The driving directions were emailed to you 2 different times. Once at time of reservation and again 7 days before your arrival date. Your welcome pack indicated that cell coverage was limited past Alpine and also included driving directions. We currently book 1,800 room nights a year. You are the first person in 3 years to never find the property and never call. If you don’t read the welcome pack, don’t read the website and don’t read your emails and don’t bother to call, we cannot help you. You need to travel with your mom or take some initiative to help yourself. - Cowboy

Rustic Relaxing Retreat
My wife and I spent a week here from Decenber 6-13, 2021. The kitchen was well-supplied with bagels, cream cheese, bread, butter, bottled water, milk, 1/2 and 1/2, orsnge juice, a fully-equiped kitchen with two full-size refrigerators, pots, pans, and utensils. We always found it clean and didn't have a problem with anyone bothering items we left inside. The freezers work well. The satellite t.v. was nice on occasion, if you could stop looking around at all the rugged beauty in the area. The Bank had two queen beds, and the one we chose was very comfortable. The other one was used as a place to put our bags and gear as there is no closet or storage area. It's easy to find if you follow the directions you're given. It is dusty, but that's to be expected as it's a dirt road, and you haven't seen dust on your truck until you've been in and out about twenty times. We hiked to Apache Cave and drove further around the property to the shooting range where it sounded as if war had erupted. Hen Egg Mountain at 5,002 ft. elevation is in full view from just a little further down the road. The sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed. The darkness after the moon sets just brings a gazillion stars into view. Saw a meteor flame out. It is just a great place to go and be so near Big Bend National Park, Big Bend State Park, and the Terlingua/Study Butte area.

An excellent place to stay if seeing Big Bend National Park. Found the road to the ranch without difficulty and the room was the best of our trip. Couldn't be happier with the room and the night sky was amazing. Got all the info regarding our stay in a timely fashion before we arrived and in an area with limited accomodations, this must surely be one of the best options. Thank you for a great stay.

Solo Hike!
My wife and I were in Big Bend country to help support our son’s solo hike through the parks. These accommodations were perfect for the mission. Close to both of the parks and gave us a unique desert experience. Looking forward to our next visit!
