'After our roundtrip in Borneo, we wanted to relax for a few days, and chose this resort. Some buildings in this hotel were being renovated, but this was not disturbing for guests. The first renovation should be finished in august 2018. Our rooms were very spacious and clean; but they also need renovation. We reserved a family room, and got 2 rooms with connecting door. 'The Shangti-La is just a step up from other hotels. Yes, it's big and busy but the staff go out of their way to really spoil you. I'm vegan and they bent over backwards to ensure I had a great breakfast, sent soy milk to my room tweaked dishes so I ate well. And the location - oh my. We stayed in a garden room and could walk straight out looking at the sea. Room had a shower and a bath, was well stocked. Water in the fridge every day. Their Spa was great too. 'Rooms are very outdated, beds were uncomfortable, cockroaches in bathroom, ants colony in bedroom. Towels were not changed, even after use they’ve been put on the floor. The lobby is nice, as is the swimming pool, but the rooms look like they’ve been have neglected for 20 years (just like the gym). I would not go there again, the high prices are just ridiculous for this level of maintenance and state. No more than a 2 or 3 star hotel in my opinion, certainly no 5 star hotel, because of the state...
