🌿 Welcome to Casa Jacaranda

Casa Jacaranda is a comfortable and welcoming villa perched high on a headland in the beautiful Moorish village of Cortijo Cabrera, in the Sierra Cabrera mountain range.

With floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, the house makes the most of its spectacular surroundings, while the pool terrace enjoys wonderful 360-degree mountain views.

It’s the perfect place for a couple, two couples or families with older children (recommended minimum age 8+) looking for a peaceful, relaxing and romantic escape.

🏡 Relax, unwind and enjoy the views

The spacious living room is a lovely place to relax, with comfortable leather sofas, internet, television and a fantastic wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings.

The bedrooms, lounge and dining room all have air conditioning, and gas-fired central heating keeps the house warm during the winter months.

Outside, the wrap-around terrace can be accessed from several points around the house, creating an easy flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The terrace is made for relaxing and entertaining, with several different seating and sunbathing areas. At the heart of it all is the 32m² swimming pool, with a uniform depth of 1.2m and those incredible mountain views.

There’s also a partially enclosed outdoor shower, perfect after a dip in the pool.

The pool side of the house is a real sun trap, and you can enjoy the sunshine right through to the last rays disappearing behind the distant hills.

🌅 Magical sunsets & starry skies

One of the things we love most about Cabrera is the sunsets. They are truly incredible — and no two are ever the same.

As evening falls, the village becomes wonderfully peaceful. With very little surrounding light pollution, the night skies are perfect for sitting back with a drink and enjoying some superb stargazing.

Whether you're spending lazy days beside the pool, exploring the mountains and coast, enjoying long lunches, watching another spectacular sunset or sitting outside beneath a sky full of stars, there is plenty to enjoy.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Short note about children

Casa Jacaranda has two bedrooms — one on the ground floor and one upstairs — so the layout may not be suitable for younger children.

The pool area is completely open so close supervision of children is essential. The garden is very steep and is not suitable as a play area. It is best to simply enjoy the garden from the expansive terrace.

For these reasons, we recommend the villa for families with older children, aged 8 and above.

🔑 Booking requirement

To book Casa Jacaranda, the person making the reservation must be 25 years of age or over. We ask that the lead guest meets this requirement when making the booking.

⛰️ A unique mountain setting

Cortijo Cabrera is a small, peaceful village tucked into the Sierra Cabrera mountain range, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The houses are built in traditional Moorish style and painted in the distinctive Tierra Cabrera colours, allowing them to blend beautifully into the mountainside.

We love the elevated position of the village and its wonderfully remote feel. Here, you can enjoy spectacular scenery, sunshine and your own private pool, surrounded by mountains and nature.

And yet, the coast is surprisingly close.

🏖️ Beaches, chiringuitos & Spanish sunshine

Mojácar Playa is around a 20-minute drive away, with beautiful beaches, lively chiringuitos and plenty of places to eat and drink.

Spend the day swimming in the Mediterranean, enjoying fresh seafood, tapas, paella, cocktails and often some live music — then head back to Casa Jacaranda, jump in the pool and enjoy a refreshing drink while watching the mountains change colour as the sun goes down. 🍹

🍷 Local bars, restaurants & villages

You don't have to go far for good food and a drink.

The Arch Bar is in the centre of Cortijo Cabrera and is within walking distance, serving tapas. It's a short walk — although the journey home is a good little workout! 😉

Nearby, Riad Cabrera, also known as Fatima’s, is a very popular restaurant.
A short drive down the mountain takes you to Cortijo Grande, where you’ll find La Almazara, another lovely bar and restaurant.

The village of Turre is around 12 minutes away by car and has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. For traditional Spanish food, Meson Meko is one of our favourites.

There are also plenty of beautiful places to explore nearby, including Mojácar Pueblo, the charming whitewashed old town, as well as the mountain villages of Bédar and Lubrín.

For a wonderful day out, we highly recommend exploring the neighbouring Cabo de Gata nature reserve, with its spectacular coastline and wild, unspoilt scenery.

And for the more adventurous, there are also several naturist beaches nearby.

🏡 Meet your hosts

We were drawn to Cabrera because we were looking for somewhere a little different — a warm, dry climate without the humidity, mountains on our doorstep, a swimming pool and, importantly, the sea close by and warm enough to enjoy a proper swim. Cabrera ticked every box! Located within Europe’s only official desert, it has a wonderfully unique landscape of rugged mountains, beautiful coastline and an abundance of wildlife. Having grown up in South Africa, we also love the way Cabrera feels a little familiar — wild, spacious and wonderfully close to nature. We hope our guests will fall in love with its spectacular mountain setting and wildlife just as much as we have.
