Ideal location
Perfect place for our family of 4 (2 adults, 15 & 11 year old). The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. We loved both the front porch and the back yard. The kids enjoyed the AC at night the grown ups were fine with the fans. We could walk to restaurants and beaches are a very easy drive. Black sand beach is very convenient and not to be missed. Communication was great throughout the process and we appreciated the tips for travel. We hired the recommended driver from San Juan who was great. Check in and leaving were simple and quick. We absolutely loved Vieques and hope to return soon!

Wonderful property, close to Esperanza main street
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The owners were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Communications were easy. The property had all the amenities we needed. Property is within easy walking distance of the Esperanza main street. We enjoyed watching a festival where locals rode horses down the side streets. Bio Bay is also a must see, we got to enjoy it on the new moon.

Also, it sounds like you were lucky and saw the islands Paso Fino Club Parade! Centrally located walking distance to shops and restauranom. Spacious with porch , was a delight
We stayed here four days and nights and it is a beautiful location. Very comfortable house with plenty of provisions. We sat on the porch plus stars and enjoy the evenings. The owners were excellent communicators. The price was great and it was walking distance to numerous restaurants and shops. We did rent a car so we could go to all the beaches that we wanted to all over the island and we could park that in a gatedcarport in front of this house which was very helpful. It has beautiful gardens and an outdoor shower for washing after swimming, and indoor shower of course as well.3 big bedrooms, 1 with an onsite bath in addition to the big bathroom and shower we shared. Large dining room table and kitchen. Overall, I highly recommend this vrbo and would rent it again if I was coming back to Vieques!

Comfortable home with undisclosed maintenance issues
Upon check-in, we encountered several pre-existing issues requiring attention that, unfortunately, were not communicated to us beforehand. Prior knowledge of these matters would have empowered us to make more informed decisions about our stay and potentially cancel our reservation. The identified problems ranged from three non-functional light switches in the main hallway and bathroom, a broken soap tray in the master shower, the presence of ants in the bathrooms, the unavailability of bedroom keys for the kids' room (resulting in an incident where the kids accidentally locked themselves inside overnight), a temporarily installed cosmetic towel rod under the double vanity (which fell when we removed a towel), and an unsafe sliding bathroom door lacking a lower track or a fixed handle. Instead, the door relied solely on a suction cup door handle that fell several times due to humidity or regular use. Given the challenges we faced, we kindly requested the hosts to consider refunding one day (with full transparency; unrelatedly, a month in advance we decided to leave a day early, making it a neutral proposition). Despite these issues, it's important to note that we appreciated the location and the remainder of the house and genuinely enjoyed meeting the host, Chip. Before posting this review, we attempted to address these concerns via email with Angie and Chip in a non-public forum. We acknowledge the possibility that the hosts may not have seen the email.

We had the main bathroom remodeled in Sept/Oct, these were the first guests after. Do to our schedules we were only able to arrive to VQS the morning their reservation started to have the one item we were aware of, the missing hardware for the door, installed. We thought everything else was in order, obviously that was not the case. We will address their findings and our remedies below. 1) Hallway light- We weren't aware that there was a switch issue until we arrived, which was about 6hrs before their arrival. During that time we checked both hardware stores on island for the necessary switch, which neither store had in stock. When the guests checked in the switch nonavailability was explained, nightlights in the hallway, which provided adequate light, were pointed out. Later in the week we were able to locate a switch on the main island of PR, have it shipped to Vieques and installed it. 2) Broken soap tray in shower- We were not aware of this, we thank them for bringing it to our attention so that it can be replaced. 3) Ants in Bathrooms- We have a regular monthly appointment with an exterminator, who was at the house a week prior to their stay. After seeing their comment, he was called to return and reapplied treatment. 4) Key for Bedroom Door- When we responded to their text about the key, they informed us that all was well. New doorknobs are on order and will be replaced at first opportunity. 5) Towel Rod under Vanity- We appreciate you mentioning this so we can replace it with a more permanent solution. 6) Slider Door/no handle or floor guide- We arrived the morning their reservation started to have our door installer finish his job. The door was installed in Oct and he was to have installed the hardware then, but he didn't have the items. We let him know our plans to be on site and he assurred us he would install the items that morning, but again he didn't. When the guests checked in, the missing hardware was explained, and as a temporary fix, the suction cups as a method to open and close the door, explained as well. Their response was that they were familiar with sliding type doors. After their stay we ordered the parts needed and installed them ourselves. Unfortunately things don't happen quickly in Vieques. Simple little jobs that might take an hour or two in the states sometimes end up taking a day or two, or longer, due to parts availibility, or tradesman schedules. We try to provide a good value for our guests, and 99% of them are very happy with what we have to offer. From their review it appears that they were happy overall as well, and for this we are glad to hear.

Vieques Get Away
We really liked this property. It was nicely appointed and air worked great. Good location too. You can walk to the Melacon easily. Grocery store down the street. We really enjoyed Manuel the caretaker and his dog Nico across the street. Everyone enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the deck chairs. We always felt safe. The only down side was that the washing machine was not working and no 'hot' water in shared bath (my wife and I still showered there as the water was luke-warm). The owners are refurbishing the shared bath and it is not quiet finished. Once completed a new washer and dryer will be available upstairs instead of in the back of the garage. Owner was on-site waiting for us to leave.

Thank you for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. It was nice to meet you, and the few minutes we chatted about your adventures. We agree that Miguel & his dog, Niko, are great! The original washing machine does work, for some reason the water had been turned off? The main bathroom was just remodeled, fully functional, and does have hot water. I mentioned when we spoke that I had some small things to take care of while I was here, (it's always a work trip!). Sorry I missed wishing you safe travels back to PA, as when I returned from a walk on the Malecon in Esperanza, you had already departed.

Everything was as described in the listing. Our favorites were the front porch and the outdoor shower. There was always a nice breeze on the front porch, so it was a nice place to cool down with a drink in hand. The outdoor shower was perfect after a long day at the beach too!

A Tranquil Oasis in Esperanza
We recently had the pleasure of staying at this delightful vacation rental in Esperanza, and it exceeded all our expectations. The property is a short walk from the main strip, offering the perfect blend of convenience and seclusion. The apartment was incredibly clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including a fully stocked kitchen, beach gear, and even some emergency LED lights in case of power outages. We spent many evenings on the front deck, sipping cocktails and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The gated driveway provided a secure parking spot for our rental car, and the outdoor shower was perfect for rinsing off after a day at the beach. The property managers, Chip, Angie, and Miguel, were all incredibly helpful and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic stay, offering local tips and checking in with us regularly. The neighborhood was friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We cannot recommend this rental highly enough. It was the ideal spot for our vacation, and we look forward to returning to this piece of paradise in the future

Went on vacation with one of our daughters and her fiance. Looking for space to spread out, cook if we wanted to and just be a 'home base' for when we were gone all day. Great location for what we were interested in; beaches / snorkeling and night life. Walking distance to several areas we wanted to be. All rooms are large and had more than one what we needed. Kitchen appliances and items for every possible need, beach towels, snorkeling equipment, fans, air conditioning, extra shampoo, etc. Very comfortable! Thank you Angie! (and Chip).

We had a great time!
The house was a great launching point to everything Vieques has to offer. We rented a golf cart and visited a different beach every day and we loved how different each one was. The tour of the bio bay was the highlight of the trip!! The house had everything we needed to cook a few meals, and was walking distance to a small grocery store, several nice restaurants and the beach. The neighborhood was nice and all of the neighbors seemed friendly. I’d recommend this place highly!

Well stocked
House was well stocked. Even had reusable grocery bags to minimize plastic bags and trash, which also was helpful to tote the scuba equipment in. Very easy walk to grocery store, and restaurants. The beds were not as comfortable as I would prefer, but the A/C worked very well and the rooms were not hot. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.

Why you should stay here + some tips for when you do!
My family (spouse + 4 kids) stayed here for three nights in June 2022. We LOVED our time in the home and in Vieques. It was so great being greeted by their property manager, Miguel. You won't find a more friendly and helpful guy. I'd see him daily (he lives across the street) and he and his family would always warmly greet us. You immediately feel like you are part of the neighborhood. The owners have set this house up with everything you'll need for a fun stay. We really appreciated having access to the snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and coolers! Having these items saved us money and helped us make the most of our daily excursions to the amazing beaches that the nearby wildlife refuge has to offer. The owners also sent helpful suggestions before our trip and were quick to respond to questions during our stay. There is a small grocery store just around the corner from this property ("Comado Lydia") that had everything we needed to prepare meals and to fill our cooler for lunches on the beach. There are reusable grocery bags in the home that are handy for carrying your purchases back to the house. Side note: Comado Lydia closes at 6pm (as of this writing). If you need to do your shopping a little later you can head to Tienda Verde (Green Market) that is a little further away but stays open until 9pm. Just 2-3 blocks away (and on your way to El Malecon) there is a lady who sells "limbers" from her home for $1.50 each. You'll see her sign in front. We loved stopping by there each day for an inexpensive treat. (Limbers are frozen fruit juice, sugar, and chunks of fruit. I highly recommend the pineapple limber.) Finally, you may have already discovered this but Esperanza is a great home base for your Vieques adventures because of the nearby beaches and because the Malecon is a starting point for many different tours.

Great house, great location, great host!
The location is excellent to walk to market, The Malecon and has water views. The home was outfitted with everything you can possibly need for a short or long term stay and is super cozy and comfy. 5-star comfort in the BEST location
Sleeping soundly every night and staying well-fed thanks to grocery just steps away and yummy restaurants within a 10-min walk, we had plenty of energy to explore Vieques -- scuba diving, biobay, learning how to spearfish, jump off the cliff in Navio, and spend hours jumping and snorkeling off Sugar pier right in Esperanza.

Perfect location and home
First time to Vieques and we were so happy with Chip and Angie’s home! The location was wonderful, the house has everything, and the neighborhood is great to sit on the porch or enjoy an evening walk. The storage closet is full of wonderful beach chairs, hammock, snorkel items, coolers. It makes daily outings a breeze. We enjoyed the outdoor shower and playing outback looking for lizards and hermit crabs. Even though we had a car we walked to the Malecon several times during the week- so close! We cooked many meals and the kitchen was perfectly stocked. The bluetooth speaker was great for music and our daughter loved the sound machine provided in the bedroom. We didn’t need Air Conditioning but it’s there if you do which is also great! Chip and Angie were quick and thorough with communication. Can’t wait to visit again. Thanks guys!!

Very nice home in an amazing location.
Everything we needed, check in was a breeze and great communication with the owner. There was a person across the street who checked us in, his English was not very good but he showed us everything we needed and was very friendly. Nice kitchen and dining table for making meals and groceries were right around the corner. We rented a jeep and visited every beach we could, nice beach chairs/coolers and equipment available for use in the carport storage area. Many horses, chickens and dogs in the neighborhood, always gave us something to smile about. Only downside was construction happening in the two house on each side of us, made it a bit noisy but it didn’t bother us much as we were usually out exploring the island.

Great Esperanza location, lots of space.
The owners totally accommodated us to prepare for a wedding. A neighbor immediately met us and explained the space. The rooms are so sweetly decorated in beach. The bedrooms are very comfy and felt like home. Every appliance you could want is in the kitchen along with coffee, sugar, spices. The front porch is amazing, we spent hours there.

Great Stay
The house is perfectly located within walking distance of the main strip of bars and restaurants overlooking the Caribbean Sea. House had all the essentials and more, but there is a convenience store right down the street in case you need anything else. Angie was both gracious and accommodating to any and all things her guests may need and is very informative about the island able to point you in the right direction if you need any help. I had a very lovely stay and would recommend staying here to anyone wanting to visit Vieques.

Wonderful Home!
We spent 3 days here before the coronavirus regulations made us leave. The home is spacious, peaceful and has a wonderful balcony to relax on. The winds kept it cool so even though there is only one air conditioner in the master bedroom the girls were slept comfortably in the other rooms. The house was well stocked with some grocery essentials, towels and snorkling gear. We were so sad to leave but will definitely return and I will stay here again. The owners and the neighbor who helps with check in were very helpful and responsive.

Casa Dos Palmas is clean, convenient and comfortable. All the major appliances are in good working order and the kitchen is well-supplied. Great option for our family of four to have an extended stay! Greeter/neighbor is friendly, helpful and charming and the owners are responsive and easy to work with. All around positive experience.

Great Place to Stay on Vieques!
This was our second time staying at Dos Palmas (and our third time visiting Vieques). From the get-go, Chip and Angie were extremely prompt at communicating and they sent lots of helpful information for our trip. Miguel met us when we arrived and gave us a thorough tour of the house. Just like our last time here, the house had everything we needed -- plenty of beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, and lots of household and toiletry items to make our stay comfortable. And, it’s so convenient to have the washer and dryer! Each unit has an air conditioner, but the breezes and fans keep the house nice and cool, so no AC was necessary! Everything was super clean and well maintained. The decor is lovely and the furniture is comfy -- it really feels like a home. We spent lots of time on the front porch -- we love watching the happenings of the neighborhood. The back yard is very nice with a covered patio, large gas grill and the outdoor shower. We didn't use the back too much because we like to be out front where the action is. But, for people who prefer a little more privacy, the back would be excellent. The location of Dos Palmas is wonderful -- right around the corner from Colmado Lydia and the bakery, not far from the beautiful and well maintained playground, and only a few minutes walk to the Malecon. But, it's far enough from the "hustle and bustle" that it's a peaceful place to come home to. Thanks, Chip and Angie, for sharing your home with us. We would recommend Dos Palmas to anyone -- it truly was perfect!

The house was very clean and well equipped for my family of 5 for our 7 day stay. It is within walking distance of the water front. It is as good as advertised with no disappointments. Had very good communication with the owners leading up to the stay. I even had to make a one day change to the reservation and it was accommodated without any issues.

Truly a Home Away, a diamond in the rough
We loved our stay in this sweet, cozy cottage. We marveled several times throughout the course of our week, at the fact that we somehow managed to land Chip and Angies’ cream of the Vieques Home Away crop! Clean and comfortable, with a wonderful porch from which to view the lifeblood of the island...people carrying boxes of groceries, children from the nearby school taking morning walks with their teacher, dressed in identifying tee shirts; horses, dogs, cats, pigs and roosters strolling in the streets, etc. (Thick walls, shutters, fans, and white noise machines lessened the morning greetings of said roosters)! Also, Miguel along with his four legged buddy Niko, was so sweet and helpful, whenever we had questions, which were few. We were ideally located, as well, with shops and restaurants within walking distance. Our only suggestion would be to perhaps have a bit of coffee and breakfast bars on hand for the first morning after arrival. We arrived too late to grocery shop that same day. If we ever return to this slice of heaven, and we hope to, I hope we are fortunate enough to again have Dos Palmas as a home base.

Fantastic Stay!
A great location, just two minutes walk to the Malecon, yet enough far away from the (sometimes noisy) bar /restaurant zone. That 2nd floor apartment at the Dos Palmas Vacation Home is comfortable and spacious, well equipped (including snorkeling gear and beach chairs ), nicely decorated, very clean and perfectly maintained. Angie and Chip, the owners were away, but always responsive to our questions and concerns. On site we were greeted by Miguel, who lives across the street and takes care of the property. – very helpful and available. A great place to stay in Vieques! Jacqueline and Krzysztof

Dos Palmas was perfect !
My wife and I had planned a cruise out of San Juan in April, but at the last minute the cruise was shortened due to a mechanical issue and we found ourselves with 4 nights in Puerto Rico and wanted to try something new. Friends of ours had been to Vieques, raved about it, and thus it was on our "bucket list". So we decided at the last minute to go there. We were very fortunate that Dos Palmas was available! It is in the heart of Esperanza in a residential neighborhood and a five minute walk to the Malecon, Esperanza Beach, and Sun Bay which was spectacular. We also took a short cab ride to Caracas Beach which is probably one of the nicest we have ever been to. We wanted to get a rental car, but it was a holiday week and given the last minute nature of the trip there were no cars available. Honestly, that worked out just fine because we could walk almost anywhere and the cabs were very reasonable and on time. The home was very nicely furnished, tastefully decorated, impeccably clean and well stocked with anything you needed for the stay with towels, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, kitchen spices, etc. It was like we never left home ! All you really need to do is bring yourself and everything else you need is there ! We really liked the book left in the living room with brochures on where to go, where to eat, etc. The owners, Chip and Angie, were great to deal with and helpful in booking the home and answering questions we had. My wife and I are also VRBO owners for a home on the Outer Bank of North Carolina and we know the effort and care it takes to make a great vacation home and experience. Chip and Angie get a "10" in our books for this wonderful home. You can really tell they care about it and want their guests to have a great vacation. The wild horses were fun to watch as they walked down the street and we enjoyed the wildlife around us. Regarding the roosters - - it is a tropical island and wildlife is everywhere. We actually enjoyed seeing and hearing them ! It truly beats the sounds of traffic, sirens, car horns, and all the city noises back home any day !!! Steve and Maribel Towson, MD

We loved the home, clean, anoaded with all the goodies like chairs, snorkelgear etc. fit perfect with our family of five. Very central location with minutes walk to our favorite bakery and the maleclon. Yes there are plenty of roosters. It welcome to vieques. Great place to stay

The house was great- had everything we needed! The chickens, passing cars and neighbor dog were very loud- which is hard with little ones that won't keep in the earplugs. Otherwise wonderful.

Great Location, Incredibly Noisy
Loved the location. The apartment is only a couple blocks from the Malecon (a.k.a. boardwalk) in Esperanza where there are a lot of great restaurants. Our favorite was "Bananas". The Malecon has a wonderful paved walk along the ocean as well as a small beach at the end. Many of the tour operators have kiosks there, too. There is a sweet little bakery and a convenience store just around the corner. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed, including ear plugs in every bedroom. That's the down side. If you are looking for a place where you can sleep in while on vacation, this is not the place for you. The apartment is not air conditioned (except for the master bedroom) which is fine as far as temperature is concerned because there is a wonderful breeze and fans in every room. However, it means that you can't close the windows and stay comfortable, so every morning between 4:00am and 5:30am, the roosters (yes, plural) will wake you with their continuous crowing. The neighbor's tv/radio is turned on around 6:00am. Their dog, which is chained outside, barks during the night. I actually found the cocquis to be rather soothing. Next time we go to Vieques, I think we'll try to find a place where we can close the windows to help dampen the noise.

Unfortunately the dogs and chickens are part of island life, which is beyond our control. The ear plugs are made available in case they are bothersome, which is a common practice among most guest homes.

This was a vacation in paradise and the house was everything we hoped and more!
The owners were good keeping in touch prior to arrival and answered any questions promptly and thoroughly! Miguel, the neighbor across the street, is so friendly and kind and let us in and gave us the tour and was always available for questions and to even just say since he maintains the landscape and literally lives across the street. And his dog Neco was such a delightful little addition to the neighborhood. This house is located in such a great area a small walk to anything you would need. The grocery store is literally around the corner and he people there were so welcoming and friendly! The main strip of bars, restaurants, shops, and rentals (bikes, scooters, etc.) is only a few blocks away and takes less than 5 minutes to walk to. And some beaches are right past that. We rented bikes and explored the rest of the island but if you're not up for a 20 mile bike ride there's cars available as well! By far one of the most magical places I've seen and this house was just perfect! Can't wait to go back!!! Don't even shop around, book with Chip and Angie!

Great house in town.
House was very well equipped - kitchen and items for the beach. Breezes kept the house cool - didn't even need air conditioning. We would recommend this house, as a matter of fact, our kids are coming down next month and are also staying here. Restaurants and bakery were in walking distance. It was a treat to hear horses trotting down the street and roosters to wake you up in the morning.

The Perfect Base for your Vieques Vacation!
We were a family of 6 staying in the house. It was perfect - nicely furnished and comfortably outfitted with everything you need for your vacation. The kitchen has whatever you need just like at home for those nights you're staying in for dinner. As others have said, the porch is so nice. It has lots of comfy chairs, a great view, and a lovely breeze. Much coffee, cocktails, and conversations were had on the porch! Nico the neighbor dog is a friendly face, and it's also fun to watch the other dogs, cats, chickens and baby peeps, horses, and occasional iguana walk by. It's great that the house has so much beach gear - boogie boards, cooler, swim noodle, etc etc. No need to lug it from home, it's all there. I really appreciate that there are so many beach towels - lots and lots, which is really helpful if there are 6 of you all going to the beach every day. No need to do laundry all the time for fresh towels - awesome! The location is so great! Right around the corner from the bakery - we made a bakery run every morning for breakfast guava pastries. There's also a store next to the bakery which is super handy. Plus it's a super short and pleasant stroll down to the Malecon. Most mornings and evenings I walked down there to watch the sun rise and set. We had a fantastic time in Vieques and a wonderful stay at Dos Palmas. I would not hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it. I hope you enjoy it too!

Thank you so much for the very favorable review! When we were furnishing the house we tried to think of what we would want if we were on vacation. We thought of other places we had traveled to, what we liked, or not, and tried to incorporate that in our vacation house to make it inviting for our guests. In the kitchen we tried to fully outfit it, due to our travel experiences where some were sparsely equipped. We're still adding items here and there as we realize a need for an thing or two. We are glad you enjoyed Nico, we just love him, and we are sure he loves all the attention! If you should ever return we'd be glad to have you back! Thanks again-Chip & Angie
