Excellent but...
A very random place but an excellent concept. Only downside was dogs not allowed off leash but for perfectly understandable reasons. But it does probably rule out a future visit which is a massive shame. Very chilled and lovely staff.

Disappointing , noisy and chaotic
I have sent 2 emails to complain and not had a response back to either. The bathroom was dirty and for over an hour until the very late evening there were chairs and tables dragged over hard floors - waking me up. There is no phone in the rooms to help with rest and relaxation and as a result you can’t come at reception. In the morning - it wasnt clear where breakfast was I was given the wrong information. When I got to the breakfast area allocated to me, there was a pile of wrapped sandwiches and nothing else and no one to explain - despite the constant reference to place markers to advise you. When I checked out I wasn’t asked how my stay was - they couldn’t have cared less. A very expensive option too , the saving grace was the pool. They cater for large corporate groups and not single business travelers despite their heavy branding to this effect - very very disappointed.

AWFUL!!! Avoid at all costs. Im also writing this an ex member who quit after a few months due to shoddy service, awful food and totally over priced membership. I returned to stay with some girlfriends hoping after 18months it might have improved. It has not. Not at all. Service is abysmal, the food in the restaurant was actually inedible and we sent it all back. When we complained we were challenged by the ‘manager’ who actually said to me ‘are you trying to tell me you can cook better than the chef’ - YES I AM, BECAUSE I CAN ACTUALLY COOK! We had to wait nearly half an hour for water alone and again when complaining it took two people and a phone call from the staff to someone else to even get the food taken off the bill. As for the rooms - only stay here if you want to feel like you’re kipping in a university dorm. The bathrooms are ancient and the curtains are made of the the flimsiest fabric I’ve ever seen. A pathetic little travel kettle with no cups, and a bed that’s it. Even under the guise of ‘sustainability’ you can’t get away with that. An awful waste of money, highly advise you spend your money elsewhere. It is a crying shame as that is a beautiful old building, which could be gorgeous. Instead it looks like it’s been renovated on shoestring using the ‘eco’ badge.

Beautiful setting, excellent food at Zebra riding club, one of the best massages at the wellness space and very comfortable bed! Bathrooms are the only negative, with a lick of paint to cover up an old outdated bathroom, but in the grand scheme of things we didn’t mind!

A 3 day stay
The room was a lot bigger than we expected which meant that we could put up our own toddler airbed for my daughter. The adult beds were larger than a king size so enough for 3 and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast choices were good for my toddler and we were content as it was just right. The Wi-Fi was brilliant in our bedroom and around the hotel. The staff were knowledgeable on local transportation and it was quick for us to go to Cheshunt and get into London. I would stay here again but this time I would drive there.

First stay at Birch Cheshunt
First time we stayed at the hotel. Initial impression was good, enjoyed some cocktails outside the front on the main part of the hotel in the sunshine. The room (720) was nothing special - there was no iron/ironing board or hairdryer, and the bathroom decor was a bit disheveled - tile sealant was coming away and the floor tile paint was steadily chipping away where the bathroom door opened and closed. Otherwise bed was comfortable, quite liked the fact there was no TV in the room. Hotel itself just felt like it needed a bit of a refresh - some stains on carpets in the halls, and mess not tidied up from night before to morning after, so I assume cleaners hadn't been round to that part of the hotel yet is all. Outside grounds needed some care - grass needed mowing (appreciate it might have been left during May). and edges around the roads were all a bit overgrown with weeds. The raised vegetable boxes would be a nice feature if maintained properly, but again just looked a bit overgrown. The dinner we had in the evening of our stay was delicious, but my wife would have preferred some better plant based options for breakfast - nothing mushroom or avocado based, which would be simple additions to the menu. I think we'd try it again in a year or so, as it felt like improvements were being made, but it's a work in progress having taken the hotel over from the DeVere chain.

I have no idea on the concept of minimal offer and high prices. All they have done is not renovate a building that needed doing. Painted old bathroom tiles, but lightweight curtains up that doesn’t block any light, no hotel comforts. No TV, No ironing facilities, coffee making facilities. The grounds are not kept. Just avoid if you want comfort as this is worse than a Hostel

We enjoyed our stay and wished we could stay for longer! Lots of activities on offer, we used the gym facilities and relaxed at the lido which was so lovely! We loved exploring the grounds and found the hotel decor was beautiful, so many areas to chill and relax.

The number of activities mid week was a bit limited and although the lido was open it looked derelict and uncared for so we didn’t use it. It was extremely quiet, everywhere we ate it was us and just 1-2 other tables. We still had a nice stay but I wouldn’t go midweek again.

Was very disappointed that we had to enter our room from the back stairs three floors up With heavy cases we are in our 60’s so not acceptable. When entering the room there was no heating on the room was freezing and the water was not hot either . Was told the heating doesn’t come on until 3.30 very unacceptable for £170 a night. Looking around there was no tea making facilities was told this was not done at Birch I have never heard such nonsense no drinking water either . We decided to leave the hotel and will expect a full refund.

Nice but bit chaotic
My second stay at Birch, lovely location and stylish decor. It was much busier than my first stay so felt a bit more chaotic and staff a bit overrun. They were turning people away at breakfast despite saying booking wasn’t necessary. We stayed in the rooms in the newer building and it was quite noisy, could hear conversations through the walls and doors clearly. On my first stay we were in the old building which was nicer and quieter.

Very comforable stay and staff were super helpful/friendly. Has a big car park so was super handy. A bigger food menu would of been great but had enough on it for my short stay. I would of stayed the full week but rooms in the hotel dont have TVs so had to find accommodation close by that did.

An expensive hostel
How this place receives a single positive reviews is beyond comprehension. Beautiful building granted, but has been renovated on a shoe string - think Home Bargains/B&M quality. Uses the 'eco' tag to reduce the service and amenities to a bare minimum. The water pressure is zero, heating was a single radiator in the bathroom (read - very cold room), no TV, no tea/coffee, or even a wardrobe! Quality of food is average but expensive. Worse was during dinner there was a mouse running around the restaurant floor. When pointed out we had seen it (several times), the waiter joked that we can't get rid of him and they had actually named it! I've been to more comfortable yurts. This place is more YMCA hostel than hotel, shame the rates don't reflect the low standards. Never again.

Scruffy, over-priced, pretentious rip-off.
The place is a joke tbh. The service within the hotel was shocking. Rude and slow bar staff. The hotel is tatty and cheaply done, under the guise of being 'eco friendly'. It's like they used that as an excuse to scrimp, whilst hugely overcharging guests for a below-par experience. For example, no heating in the rooms so was freezing. And no kettles so you have to pay £3.50 for the coffee in the morning. Really not worth the money. Avoid at all costs. We all felt that we had been mugged tbh. Embarassingly bad place. The shower is also like getting peed on my a mouse. All the toilets in the hotels were broken and the flushes didnn't work/buttons had fallen off.

Good vibes only.
Love the laid back, unpretentious vibe of Birch. The staff are warm and chatty but not imposing and the layout, decor and atmosphere are great. Would be great to see how it feels in the winter with some of those fires crackling. I did the slow flow yoga with Anna Christmas and it was amazing. To offer so many classed is a real pull - i will def be back!

We really enjoyed the outdoor activities - outdoor DJ and pool were great. Very limited dining options and very expensive. Breakfast was extremely disappointing in Valeries. We enjoyed the pizza, but only available on the Friday and was not advertised that it was available. What really disappointed us was the lack of orientation when we checked in. For such a large facility, we received no information on where we could eat, what was available, where we could order food or drinks and where everything was located.

WOW !
We stayed here for a Wedding in the area. From the moment we arrived till we left we were treated in a truly friendly manner. The atmosphere from staff members and guests was relaxed and we were able to totally chill out. The building had a great deal of rustic charm. The grounds (55acres) meant that there was lots of space. The feel of the Birch was like a modern day hippy commune or summer camp for adults. Families and dogs were more than welcome. There were 4 areas to feed and water the body, with different levels of catering. The room was comfortable (The Zebra Riding stables ) with air conditioning and space outside to relax. I would stay again without any hesitation. If you visit, ask for a tour and the information on the history of the estate. ❤️❤️❤️😎
