Thank you so much for your review! A musty smell is possible...anywhere on Cape Cod. In fact it seems like that is a smell of Cape Cod, a memory for me. No matter where I've lived on the Cape over 50+ years it seems every house has somewhat of a musty smell with the humidity we have. I always open the house up between guests to make sure it is fully aired out. It is true that being in the barn in warmer weather allows the windows & doors to be open & the breeze to flow through. Regarding rugs and so forth...we purposely keep the decor as simple as possible. We have many families stay with us so this allows no muss, no fuss. Rugs hold dirt so it would take us longer to clean or have more laundry to do. I understand your perspective & we're sorry if it affected your stay in a negative way. We choose to keep the space super simple, using the soft colors for decoration & to provide a soothing atmosphere. Guests don't have to worry about breaking, tearing or spilling when they have kids in tow. I agree we could use a great piece of art on the living room wall. I'm still looking for the right piece. Thank you for your review. We enjoyed meeting you all! Dang about the cleaning though. Sorry you missed that in the house rules. We feel it is just in that we are some of the only people I've seen who do not charge you a cleaning fee. Some cleaning fees are $100! We feel that if we charge a cleaning fee that people will not participate in leaving the barn clean. We are committed to guests arriving to pristine conditions & one way that happens is for guests to clean up after themselves. If we did charge you a cleaning fee it would take us twice as long to do a turnover & then incoming guests time would then need to be pushed back. Overall it doesn't make for a partnership with our guests if we are the only ones attending to a level of cleanliness. I know that as a guest if I was to be charged a cleaning fee I'd feel like "why should I clean after myself when my host is charging me a fee already!" I sure hope this makes sense & that you ultimately feel it was worth taking the time out of your day to be a partner with us! We appreciated your time here. All our best! Deirdre & Lisa

What's a homeowner to do? :P We actually went right out & bought a new bed for previous guests who complained...it was delivered that day! We do our best to listen & serve.
