I arrived at The Russell Hotel at check in time and waited 40 minutes at reception. I ended up having to go down to the restaurant and ask a waitress to find the receptionist, after asking the bar man several times with no help. When the receptionist did arrive she was unapologetic saying she was too busy serving food to guests.

Stinking attitude!
looked forward to a one night stay as we were celebrating our anniversary with family.... We should of been able to check in at 3,00pm... At 5.30 we were told at reception the room was not ready and didn't know when it would be! We asked we needed to know as we were going out at 6.30pm... Very sarcastic tone by the receptionist. As I said this is not good enough and walked away a room became available??? I would say the worst room that could offer plus no towels!! Down to reception again and was told they dont allocate rooms. hotels.com do?? We were told the washer driers had been playing up hence no towels.. We did get towels just in time to take a shower! A very poor experience and many other elderly people were told the same after they had traveled hours and could not get into their rooms. Wouldn't stay there again even if hotel.com paid.

hotel had a large damp patch on wall above beds.general appearance old and tired looking .piece of old carpet stuck onto set of drawers. no wifi connections up stairs.generally very poor

I was really suprised...i took what was left when booking as nothing else in Weymouth was available being as we are unable to travel abroad due to Covid...we even took a twin room ...the room was spotless..great shower pressure plenty of hot water...even had a sea view...beds were amazingly comfortable with big fluffy pillows and duvets to match...couldn't fault this hotel at all ..would definitely stay there again...Shame about the woman that checked us in ...had an foreign accent short brown hair said she owned the place also very unkind to her employees in front of customers.

It was great we where just less than 100 meters away from the beach and we can hear the waves, it sounded just like a few steps away. Just slightly nosiy during rush hours in the morning with the cars passing by but apart from that everythings okay

Well needed break
Amazing staff who realised I was struggling (in recovery from cancer ) and bent over backwards to help us have a good experience. Would def stay again.

The room was clean and up to standard. The room was on sea view position which I really enjoyed. The sun rise was just direct to the room which enhanced the sea view and nice warm room

I stayed here with my wife a 2 sons, the view from the rooms was excellent and my room was adequate and had comfortable beds. Unfortunately the room my son's were using the cleanliness left a lot to be desired' There were hairs in the bed and shower and it appeared there had been some electrical work taking place as there were off cuts of wire insulation and plaster dust on the floor. The amount of people not wearing face coverings in the public areas was also disappointing given the current pandemic. Finally despite being told there was carparking on site this is very limited and initially i was told parking was full and I would have to use a public car park 10 minutes walk away. Anybody who has visited weymouth will know the cost of parking is close to daylight robbery. Fortunately a member of staff was leaving and offered me his space.

The hotel is in a super location. We booked a seaview twin. We were given an accessible ground floor room. We never wanted this and the manager did change this although it was not easy. Our room was dated but high ceilings and lovely view. Car parking is in a blocked in car park. When we wanted to leave the car blocking us in was not traceable so it was a stressful time for us. Restaurant food on lower floor was ok. But I think in current climate they should stagger serving times. 8:30 breakfast for all!

The toilet was very dirty, not cleaned. Dressing table full of dust. No parking as advertised we had to pay £10.50 at the railway station to park and walk 10 minutes back to hotel . I would never recommend this hotel

Room was nice enough - clean and large. It was extremely hot but thankfully i had a fan in the car. I’m a deep sleeper but the noise was horrendous- my room adjoined a staircase so i was woken every time someone used the stairs - it was like a thumping noise. lots of creaking floorboards but you expect that in an old hotel so i accept this. the stairs prevented me sleeping though. my kids were asleep so i couldn’t ask to move rooms. No info about breakfast on check in so i presumed the usual arrangement in a hotel. In the morning i was told i needed to wait until 8.30. at 8.30 i joined all of the other guests and followed them in to the restaurant. then told b&q guests in the bar -so i expect i could have in fact had breakfast at any time. there were 8 tables and 1 waitress who seemed to use the most inefficient method! eventually we got our orange juice and toast which is all we wanted (about 20 mins wait). then came the car park - i had to wait 45 mins to get my car out of the car park. i am not a grumpy person and i wasn’t particularly in a rush but when you visit the seaside for the day you don’t really want to spend 2 -3 hrs of your morning waiting for breakfast and your car. i have never written a review of a hotel before - i prefer to give my feedback- good or bad - direct to the hotel but on check out no one asked how my stay had been. I wouldn’t stay here again because i felt it expensive and I didn’t get a good night sleep which is what i’d gone to the hotel for.

Not exactly the best hotel I have ever stayed in! Check-in staff very courteous and friendly. However, room was small [unlike pics on Expedia website] unbearably hot, mould on much of the bathroom walls, carpet like a patchwork quilt of various degrees of dirty / worn carpet, cracked tiles in the bathroom, water pressure at best was very poor to non existent and worst of all we were unlucky to have a group of at least 6 drunken guests congregating in the room next door who were laughing, screaming and have a great time between 11.30pm and 3.00am. Despite protests to reception this did not stop. Calls to reception then went unanswered as they obviously did not want to have to deal with me or them again. Happy did not book breakfast as when we left at 8.00am, the queue was around 50m back from the restaurant, up the stairs and back in to reception. No one available behind desk when we wanted to check out and complain so just left after 5 minutes. Forget free parking, lack of spaces and inconsiderate parking by others. Never again!

Lights didn’t work when we arrived, parking v limited, hotel pretty run down, shower a trickle, but most bizarre of all, breakfast was at 8.30 on the dot and we were told off for being late. We were on our holiday and didn’t want breakfast at 8.30am. Felt more like a boot camp. Very odd. Lovely location on the sea front however

Disappointed.
Disappointed in the fact that bearing in mind it has just reopened it had a tired unloved feeling. The staff, all of them were brilliant BUT the room left a lot to be desired. Peeling wall paper, big cracks in ceiling. Shower useless until repaired. Room at back of hotel was clean but dowdy. Food adequate. Hotel appears to be really for coach customers. NOT casual stayers.

Nice and friendly staff let down by the quality of the room. Sweltering hot in there, the tap has more power than the shower and no toilet roll for us left in the room. The staff were great with helping but not the greatest of stays.

It was a comfortable stay with great location however the and no power behind it and was just like a trickle of water. The wallpaper was falling off the walls. We also almost missed breakfast because it was not explained to us nor did the reception staff answer their phone.

It was a lovely stay at the Russell Hotel~ the staff work so hard and were always friendly and upbeat. Myself and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it and we will definitely be back

Although very friendly staff found one lift didn’t help when numerous stairs car park overfilled hard to get car out when packed in like sardines and guests are asked to leave keys at reception desk but person blocking us in hasn’t so had to use taxis all day which we did get reimbursed by hotel but we didn’t go to all places we wanted to

Old Hotel where the rooms need refurbishing
The location of the hotel is spot on! Facing the Weymouth Sea Front and such a lovely sea front it is. We had not even planned for visiting Weymouth as the original plan was for Lulworth and Corfe. However, the hotel was not too far a drive from both and we really enjoyed the time at Weymouth and even planned visited Portland for the lovely light house. The hotel looks "grand" from outside and the reception is lovely as well. The staff are lovely and amazingly helpful! However, the rooms are shabby and old. The elevator is a pain and stairs are hard to find. Most people that we met did not want to stay in and were happier spending time outside. Despite the lovely staff and wonderful location; I would NOT recommend this hotel.

My first bad hotel experience
I hadn't any problem with anything in this hotel.. but I saw things that made me decide that I won't go there again for sure. The staff looks lost and completely untrained, they don't know what they are doing there.. It's almost like we need to teach them. I guess they dont have a manager there.. or its a very bad one that doesn't managing anything. The bed (mattress) is so soft that we keep drowned on it and we fall on the floor.. we can hear the people in other rooms in the toilet, we can hear them walking upstairs. And we can hear everything from outside. The breakfast was just awful, one day I got raw egg day after burn scrambled eggs. Not too much to choose, served one by one.. and so slow.. because it was busy and with definitely short number of staff. One more time, very untrained stuff ( felt sorry for them, so stressful and scare because of people complaints). It's not a clean hotel. I gave 2 stars because the tempersture of water in the shower was good otherwise would be 1 star.its my first time that I give less than 4/5 stars review in something. Disappointed.

Hotel seems to cater for coach parties, which may not suit everyone. But: Good size room, clean, plenty of hot water, entertainment in the evening. Service polite and helpful. Food average, but for large numbers. Location excellent.
