Barranca is een oud Spaans gehucht net ten westen van Abiquiu boven de rivier de Chama. Op het kleine plein staan ​​een paar adobe-huizen, waarvan er één een zeer charmante woning met twee slaapkamers en een badhuis is.
De dikke lemen muren hebben ingebouwde traditionele nicho's. Het eetgedeelte is voorzien van traditionele banco's en in de hele casita zijn betegelde en houten vloeren. Een houtkachel geeft u veel comfort in de winter. De dikke muren houden het huis in de zomer koel.

Een grote tuin met fruitbomen omringt de casita.

In Barranca vindt u een levendige kreek die uit de bergen komt. Volg de in de lente gevoede kreek stroomopwaarts en betreed het Santa Fe National Forest met een sensationeel uitzicht op de Abiquiu-vallei en de omliggende berglandschappen. Badlands met goblin-achtige formaties zijn in de buurt. De Chama-rivier, waarlangs de veeboerderijen liggen, is ideaal om te vissen.

De casita ligt op slechts enkele minuten van het huis van Georgia O'Keeffe en op een klein eindje rijden van het bassin Piedra Lumbre. Ghost Ranch is vele bezoeken waard en vergeet niet de kloof van de Chama River in te rijden om te wandelen of het benedictijnenklooster te bezoeken.
De Chama River Wilderness is een paradijs voor ontdekkingsreizigers.

De acequia, het traditionele Spaanse gemeenschapswatersysteem, wordt nog steeds hoog in aanzien gehouden in Barranca. De mayordomo bepaalt wie wanneer irrigeert. De tuin van de casita kan op zaterdag worden geïrrigeerd.

Fantastische uitstapjes kunnen worden gemaakt naar Ojo Caliente Mineral Hot Springs, Taos en Taos Pueblo, de Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Chama (met de Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad), Bandelier National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historic Park , Valle Grande, etc. etc.
Wandelen door heel Georgia O'Keeffe het platteland. Ghost Ranch, waar de mevrouw O'Keeffe had haar atelier, is net om de hoek, Vissen in Abiquiu Lake of de rivier de Chama, jacht in Santa Fe en Carson National Forests (kantoren voor het verkrijgen van vergunningen in het nabijgelegen El Rito en Espanola), Sightseeing alle door de Canones Canyon en Piedra Lumbre vallei, varen en waterskiën in Abiquiu Lake, raften op de rivier de Chama. Elk jaar in oktober - Columbus Days Weekend - Abiquiu heeft zijn Abiquiu Studio Tour. Een goed moment om de veranderende kleuren van onze populieren en kunst te genieten van lokale kunstenaars. Je kunt ongeveer 60 artiesten bezoeken in hun Abiquiu-studio's, waarvan er minstens 5 op loopafstand van Barranca Plaza Casita liggen.
De 21e jaarlijkse Abiquiu Studio Tour is 11, 12 en 13 oktober 2014. Tourkaarten beschikbaar in heel Abiquiu.

Familiebijeenkomsten en reünies:
Zowel Barranca Plaza Casita en Martinez Casita bieden volledige privacy. Peaceful beautiful relaxing escape

Floyd was communicative and kind. The House was beautiful as well as the surrounding mountains and the fenced in yard. My only complaint is that I didn't have enough time to explore and had too much work to do - no fault of the host. And my dog and I had a relaxing and peaceful escape from the fireworks and 4th of July shenanigans that happened in Albuquerque this past weekend. We most definitely will return and check out Ghost Ranch and Ojo Caliente next time. I highly recommend.

Boy, did I get lucky!

The real heart of New Mexico

I was born in Albuquerque and have traveled in NM a lot. This place and its gracious familia and the sacred land can give you the best sense of what (non-municipal) NM is about. The casita is charming and has the most well-equipped kitchen I've ever had when traveling. There are interesting things to do around Abiqui and it's a perfect place to just lay back in the desert silence and not have to talk to anyone!

Great views

This casita is tucked back in the mountains with beautiful mountain views in every direction. Mrs.Martinez showed us the casita and answered any questions we had. It snowed and Floyd was so kind to bring wood and fire starting materials so we could build a fire in the atove the next morning. It was cozuu ya sitting by the stove watching the fire through the glass door of the stove. Phone service is sketchy, but the TV worked great. We watched Netflix some. The bed was very comfortable and the area quiet and safe. We enjoyed our stay. Floyd was very responsive to any questions.

We really enjoyed our stay at the casita. Kitchen was complete with everything we needed. We didn’t need the oven. Great place for our dog. All walled in and small area of grass. We took an evening walk along the road. Floyd and his family were great hosts. Abiquiu and the area was lovely.

Superb!

This was a lovely and cozy little adobe cottage surrounded by Floyd's well-kept garden in a country setting. Perfect for one or two people who want a quiet getaway. Having said that, I can't stress enough how the warm and welcoming personalities of Floyd and Ninfa Martinez made my stay there wonderful. They are non-intrusive but available and friendly and I felt like family by the time I left. Ninfa brought over her fabulous zucchini bread and Floyd shared his garden delights. I was very happy to be able to bring my two dogs with me. Like so many other reviews, I have to agree that this was a 10/10.

An Authentic Norther NM Experience

Floyd and his family were so kind and welcoming. Floyd started a fire in the wood stove every morning as my Girl Scout fire starting badge had lapsed. Old traditional adobe with just enough modern amenities. My dogs ran and ran and enjoyed the great outdoors. I sat in front of the fire and read a book.

Perfect in every way

This is a lovely traditional adobe home located in a slightly rural area, with a great host. The scenery is stunning with mountains in every direction and the Chama River just down the hill. Very cozy, and relaxing.

Coming Home

Returning to the Martinez casitas is indescribable. The casita, vistas, family greetings, and location make this stay memorable. The space is spacious; the decor, furniture, lighting, kitchen supplies, and attention to detail are unparalleled. Abiquiu is very special, and the Martinez family provides an authentic experience to the State of Enhancement.

Cozy casita in a beautiful setting

We stayed three nights and were blown away by the friendliness and hospitality of the owner who lives across the plaza. He shared tomatoes and cucumbers with us from his garden. We truly felt at home. We sat outside and looked at the view of the cliffs when we ate breakfast. We will return and we wish our host and his family the very best.

Adobe Casita with a View

Great stay for the two of us. You get to experience the feeling of an adobe casita (thick walls, everything rounded including doorways and all edges. The dining nook was unique. There were great views from the front porch and patio area. The casita was spacious with lots of tile work. The location was convenient for all there is to see around Abiquiu and the price was very reasonable. Suggestions for the listing--need a better map to get you their (too many opportunities to be on the wrong road or make a wrong turn--we got lost twice, but easy once you get the correct way). Also, no door or covering on the second bedroom and must go thru the main bedroom to get to the bath (did not matter to us, but would be a surprise to others). Overall, we loved the experience! Floyd was very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful and relaxing

This beautiful location has to be one of our favorite vacation spots. Floyd and his family were very welcoming, the casita was clean and had all that we needed in it, and the views were incredible especially for a morning cup of coffee on the porch...or even an evening drink watching the sun light up different aspects of the mountain range.
