'The person at the front desk spoke English very well. This was one of the most unique (in a good way) properties that I stayed at. The room was spotless, and in the traitional Japanese style. It was very large and had a mini SNES with large TV. The window blinds were of the traditional so I woke up early.
There is a game room with some retro games as well as a massage chair.
What I liked the most about this property is that there are three semi-private onsens that can be used. They are...

'The staff at this property is top notch. My friends and I were welcomed warmly, quickly given recommendations in and around Kusatsu, and even provided a complimentary sweet milk, traditionally consumed after an onsen soak.
The facility was very much a labor of love. The private onsens were clean, convenient, and absolutely rejuvenating.
The public areas were intimate, clean, and provided retro video games and board games.

'Breakfasts were excellent. Every staff were friendly and we really felt like home. Location is nearby the major travel spot but not noisy.
Everything is good, just a very little thing: moved luggages by hand to room at 2nd floor. To me as a hushand and a daddy, it meant luggages of 3 persons I moved. '

'This ryokan was lovely- all the staff were so accommodating and made us feel very special! The ryokan itself is dainty and pleasant. There was public Onsens for women’s and men’s separate (in the women’s there was 1 indoor and 1 outdoor public Onsen with shower room inside). You can also book a private Onsen when you arrive - they have 45 min time slots for 3000 yen! Also very quick walk to Yubatake and the bus station! Would recommend'

'Location is good, opposite is the ski resort, which has good snow. Overall room was well maintained, public Onsen was nice too. However we came during early ski season, there is barely any restaurants opens. Hotel cafe food is a bit expensive, and not much choice (mainly western). If plan to stay may order half board instead, or tell hotel staff to reserve dinner before 10am'

'We will definitely go back to Takimoto. It’s a great little hotel with everything you need - spacious boot and ski room, free lockers, day room, lounge with fire and free marshmallows for toasting every day, washing machines and tumble dryers, onsen, restaurant, wine and beer and an illy coffee machine. But most importantly the staff are lovely particularly Aki the manager and it is sooo close to the main Tagamaghara lift. One of the best ski holidays we’ve had. The decor is a little dated but...

'I really enjoyed my stay at Kashiwaya Ryokan. Although it was long to get to without a car, it was worth the travel. The 2 days there didn’t feel like it was enough time. I will return again for sure. The room was comfortable, the private onsen were beautiful and amazing. The kaiseki served at dinner were delicious and perfectly balanced. The traditional Japanese breakfast (there were Western styled breakfast and brunch at the cafe in Shima Onsen town) was incredible as well. I want to thank the...

'We had a fantastic stay at Shibu Hotel. The staff were so kind and welcoming. They made us feel so special throughout our stay. The Kaiseki dinner was such an experience. The room was very nice, clean and had nice decor. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Shibu Onsen. '

'Excellent service and delicious food. The hotel is clearly well run and cared for. The onsen baths in the hotel were the perfect temperature and the location ideal. '
