'The pub is an old building, therefore there are things that cannot be changed, so if you are a light sleeper and cannot use ear plugs this may not be for you. It was not an issue for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, we had one evening meal there, breakfast was perfect, they were very accommodating by tweaking the menu to what you prefer.
Very close to the caves and gorge, easy to access other attractions.'
'Fantastic spot. The rooms are modern, clean and the beds extremely comfortable. Felt like a modern hotel and not a classic inn.
Staff seemed a little grumpy, maybe the heat!
Rooms have AC which was great.
They offer Bristol airport parking fee and you can taxi to the airport so it's a great spot if you're flying in and out of Bristol.
We used it as a halfway point from Cornwall to midlands. Just 7 mins to cheddar gorge.
Highly recommend.'
'Called for one while exploring the Somerset Levels. Perfect location for managed to book the last room, this was the largest of all the rooms available comfortable, clean & very spacious. The propriter was very welcoming on arrival and made us tea to take in the rear.'
'Really enjoyed our overnight stay in the King Penguin room at the Sheep & Pigeon. Room was very clean, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. We had a lovely evening meal . Recommend the River Teign mussels . Staff were welcoming & attentive .'
'Not the first time we stayed here, because of its proximity to Bristol airport. But apart from that, this brewery owned pub is a very nice one. Good food, friendly staff and very comfortable rooms. Hope to be back soon.'
'Thanks Ray and the team, for a lovely stay. Hotel/pub was located in centre of Axbridge, just around the corner from a free 48hrs car park and handy for getting around to surrounding areas like cheddar gorge etc. Room was a lot more spacious than we anticipated, it was spotless, with daily change of towels and top ups to tea and coffee facilities. Staff were really nice and accomodating and it was nice to meet some of the locals too in what seems like a really friendly little community....
'A 3-star hotel / bed-and-breakfast - very personal, friendly service. The hotel is visited daily by locals buying newspapers. All meals cooked to order, including breakfast - a nice change to the usual experience in hotels nowadays.
We turned up at about 4.30pm to find opening time was 5pm - we must have missed this in the instructions. The hotel was open promptly at 5 pm however. On the Sunday the bar closed at 5pm so dinner had to be elsewhere - not a problem for us as we always tend to have...
