Colcello Farmhouse
Colcello is a lovely original old house. It's located just above the village of San Leo Bastia, 1 km drive or 500 metres walk down into town. Quiet spot with beautiful views of the valley and surrounds, great place to relax.

Beautiful house in wonderful location ... for small people
The house in a very quiet place offers a wonderful view of the village of San Leo Bastia. It is simple but fully equipped, even some food and cleaning supplies were available (which is not a given, as we learned from experience in several rented houses). Communication with Zita, the owner, was extremely friendly, also extensive information was provided on restaurants, stores and places of interest. The access road to the house is graveled and partly narrow and steep. We were glad to be on the road only with a relatively small car. Small is also the keyword for the house, which is relatively old and invites you with its lovely character to stay. However, the doors to the rooms are at most 165 - 170cm high, which meant that we regularly bumped our heads. We enjoyed the outdoor area under the arbor in the evening, and during the day the pool with a magnificent view. There were plenty of sun loungers available. The location of the house is perfect to explore Umbria, Perugia, Cortona and Lake Trasimeno are within 60 - 90 minutes by car. Tuscany with Arezzo or Montepulciano are also not far. In any case, we enjoyed the stay, even if it turned out shorter than planned due to illness.

Great remote location with pool
We had a great stay, the host had provided us with very clear and concise instructions with local tips that were very useful and informative. The accommodation was perfect for what we wanted , which was a remote location with views and a peaceful setting. The property is basic (very charming and old) but very clean and has all the facilities you need to cook a decent meal and store food etc. We cooked meals with produce purchased from the local shop on four nights with no problem. There is also the option to eat in the local village. The pool was clean and well maintained with chairs, loungers to use. We have great memories of this place and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone else seeking a peaceful trip. There are also walking routes near by that we didn't check out but if we had more time we would have tried out. A lovely stay !

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. You're right, Colcello is very peaceful and the combination of stunning views plus easy access to bars, restaurant and food shops make it quite special. We too buy all our food from the shops in the nearby village - and encourage our guests to do so too as it's a way of supporting the local economy.

Charme und Charakter
Nachdem die Kommunikation mit Zita, der Vermieterin, im Vorfeld hervorragend funktioniert hatte, waren wir gut auf die Unterkunft und die Ausflugsmöglichkeiten vorbereitet. Ja, das Haus ist nicht perfekt (von Zita vorab bestätigt) aber sein Charm und sein Charakter machen Vieles wieder wett. In der abgeschiedenen Lage kann man hervorragend die Seele baumeln lassen und wird dabei höchstens von der Nachbarin unterbrochen, die einem ein paar frisch gelegte Eier anbietet. Die Lage ist auch perfekt um Ausflüge zu den umliegenden (Berg-) Städten zu unternehmen, Assisi, Siena, Castiglione del Lago sind die weitesten, absolut lohnenden Ziele. Zwei Sachen sollte man jedoch wissen: Die Auffahrt ist tatsächlich eine Herausforderung. Mit unserem relativ langen und schweren Kombi war es „gut“ machbar, aber wir haben beschlossen, nur bei Tageslicht zu fahren. Ein kleiner, wendiger Wagen hätte es sicher entspannter gemacht. Vermutlich jahreszeitabhängig waren die Bremsen eine rechte Plage und haben ein entspanntes Verweilen im (schönen) Pool nicht wirklich erlaubt. Autan hilft, wird aber reichlich benötigt. Und noch einen Tipp: wer mit über 1,9 Meter einziehen will, sollte am ersten oder auch zweiten Tag eine Kopfbedeckung im Haus tragen. Ansonsten kann es zu sehr schmerzhaften Bekanntschaften mit den niedrigen Türstöcken kommen 😊. Es war ein sehr interessanter Urlaub, den wir nicht vergessen werden.

Nous avons apprécié le calme la journée et la beauté de l'endroit... Agréable piscine et transats en suffisance. Plusieurs bémols, les aboiements des chiens la nuit, manque de confort dans le gîte, accès pour y arriver, incommodés par les nombreux insectes (fourmis, taons, moustiques,... ).

I'm really glad you enjoyed the peace and calm. This is one of the things many of our guests love about Colcello. With regard to your other comments, yes, the accommodation is simple and rustic. We say this in the information. But, just to reassure future guests, the mattresses are very comfortable. And there's a sofa and comfy armchair. Of course there are mosquitoes and other insects - this is Italy in the summer! But there are mosquito screens on all the windows - and if you're careful you can keep mosquitoes to a minimum.

Sehr ruhige Lage inmitten von viel Natur
Für den ruhesuchenden Urlauber sehr gut geeignet. Absolute Ruhe inmitten von viel Natur. Bauernhaus am Hang gelegen. Die Anfahrtbeschreibung unbedingt beachten. Auffahrt für geübte Fahrer. Meine Tochter, keine Fahranfängerin, hat es sich nicht getraut. Die Beschreibung und Tipps der Vermieter sind sehr gut. Sehr große Besucher müssen unbedingt auf ihren Kopf achten. Sehr schöner Ausblick.

Fabuleux !
Chaumière avec beaucoup de charme, tommettes au sol et poutres apparentes. Située sur les hauteurs, le panorama de la terrasse et de la piscine est magnifique. Nous avons passé un sejour sublime. Les explications de la propriétaire étaient claires, les habitants autour sont tellement gentils. Nous avons eu le plaisir de trouver bouteille de vin, d'eau et de jus de fruits ainsi que du beurre offert à notre arrivée, ainsi que le linge de lit et les serviettes de bain fournis. La réserve à côté de la maison, contient plusieurs chaises longues ainsi que des bouées gonflables prêtées. Tout est vraiment parfait pour un sejour de déconnexion complète. Nous avons tout simplement adoré ❤️

Quiétude en Ombrie
Perchée au dessus du petit village de San Leo de Bastia, la petite maison de Zita est un havre de paix. La piscine est un plus pour les enfants et les plus grands. Si les journées sont chaudes, les nuits sont fraîches. Les voisins sont très agreables et disponibles. Ruralité et lieu cosy où nous avons passé un très agréable séjour. Plein de beaux endroits authentique à découvrir.

Great week in Colcello
Wonderful little house with a very nice view. We spent a great week. Kids enjoyed the swimming pool and the lovely cat they fell in love with. Lots of things to visit, among them Citta di Castello : not as famous as Sienne but very nice to visit and have a drink at the end of the day !

Very glad you enjoyed your stay, Claire. Yes, we love Citta di Castello too. Recommend getting there early on a Saturday morning for the market (take the back road, not the motorway - so much nicer!) and then having a drink in the main square. Wonderful for people watching!

Traumhafter Ausblick
Abenteuerliche Zufahrt, aber der Empfang war herzlich (Erstaustattung:Pasta, Pesto, Butter, etc im Kühlschrank)Das Haus ist wunderschön in den Bergen gelegen, toller Ausblick. Man kommt zur Ruhe und kann abschalten. Leider wurden wir regelmäßig von Nachbarshunden auf dem Weg ins Dorf angefallen, was ein wenig die Urlaubsstimmung trübte.

Delighted that you enjoyed the view and were able to relax in this tranquil location. But very sorry that you were barked at by dogs when walking down to the village. Just to reassure potential guests, these dogs live some distance away from Colcello on the road down to the village. We have never had a complaint about them before - and we do walk down to the village ourselves. We will let the owners know as they are a very friendly nice family and will probably be upset to know that you felt intimidated by their dogs.

Traumhafte Lage in den Bergen Umbriens
Traumhafte Lage in den Bergen Umbriens. Der Abschied fiel schwer… Vom Pool oder vom Liegestuhl im Garten kann man den Blick in die Ferne schweifen und die Seele baumeln lassen. Die Zufahrt ist zwar eine Herausforderung über die steile Schotterpiste, aber es lohnt sich!!! Wir sind beide recht groß (1,78 und 1,98) und mussten immer wieder die Köpfe einziehen im Haus, aber wir würden am liebsten direkt wieder zurückfahren. Die Vermieterin hat tolle Tipps für die Umgebung. Obwohl man sich so wunderbar abgeschieden fühlt, kann man sehr schnell interessante Orte erreichen. Direkt im Ort SanLeoBastia gibt es zwei Bars (superleckeres Eis), die auch bei den Einheimischen sehr beliebt sind und rege besucht werden, sowie ein Restaurant mit sehr leckerem Essen! Wir haben uns vorher anhand der Fotos sehr auf unseren Urlaub gefreut und unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen.

Heerlijk onthaasten
We hebben erg genoten van Colcello Je hoort alleen de krekels en de vogels, verder alleen maar stilte. Lekker lezen onder de pergola, zwemmen en genieten van het uitzicht. In de omgeving een aantal hele mooie middeleeuwse dorpjes en steden. Als je van rust houdt en wilt relaxen zeker een aanrader! Voor een gezin met kinderen minder geschikt.

Remote and panoramic: the perfect holiday house
This family owned house has just everything you need, including a personal touch, very beautiful surroundings and even a swimming pool. It is very quiet and very Italian, and the suggestions for restaurants, markets etc. from te owners very much added up to our wonderful experience. It felt a bit like home and we are already longing to go back! Thanks to Zita & family and their very friendly neighbors as well :)

Wir waren sehr gerne hier
Wir sind eine Familie mit 3 Kindern (8 - 14 Jahre). Colcello als Objekt ist in der Anzeige sehr gut beschrieben. Die Kommunikation mit der Vermieterin war direkt und sehr gut. Die Zufahrt zum Haus ist nicht einfach, allerdings gibt die Vermieterin, wie für alle relevanten Dinge rund um den Aufenthalt, umfangreiche und wertvolle Tipps. Dafür gibt es aber eine atemberaubende Aussicht. In 5 Minuten ist man in dem kleinen Ort, wo es alles gibt, was man braucht. Der Mieter bewohnt die obere Etage des Hauses, wobei die untere Etage die Privat-Räume der Vermieterin beherbergt, die allerdings nicht dort wohnt, so dass man trotzdem alleine ist. Der Garten ist am Hang terrassenförmig angelegt, trotzdem gibt es Flächen, wo man auch Badminton o. ä. spielen kann. Highlight ist natürlich der eigene Pool mit einem Durchmesser von rund 6m, in dem man auch als Erwachsener vernünftig schwimmen kann. Die Wohnung selbst ist urig, ein altes Bauernhaus, allerdings haben die beiden Schlafzimmer auf Grund der Dachschrägen nicht überall Stehhöhe. Die Hausmeister sind ein älteres Pärchen, wohnen am selben Weg und sprechen nur Italienisch. Sie sind zurückhaltend und unauffällig, dafür aber absolut zuverlässig. Wir haben sie einmal besucht und sind trotz Sprachschwierigkeiten sehr warmherzig aufgenommen worden. Im Ort gibt es zwei kleine Läden, beide angeschlossen jeweils an eine kleine Bar, ein Restaurant und einen sehr guten Metzger. Der Laden bei der Bar "Lo Spacio" ist komplett sortiert, auch mit Hygiene-Artikeln. Wer selber kochen möchte, findet hier bzw. beim Metzger alles, was er braucht. Das kleine Restaurant ist absolut empfehlenswert. Es ist angeschlossen an die andere Bar "Bucci". In beiden Bars/Läden spricht man Englisch und man bekommt auch schon mal einen guten Rat wenn man Hilfe oder Tipps braucht. In Colcello kann man herrlich abschalten, weit weg von allen klassischen Touristen-Magneten und nur umgeben von Einheimischen. Trotzdem gibt es genug zu erleben: Cortona ist eine malerische kleine alte Stadt - sehr zu empfehlen. Ebenso der Lago Trasimeno, dort insbesondere Passignano sul Trasimeno mit einer tollen Ufer-Promenade. Von hier aus fahren Schiffe zu den Inseln oder man mietet sich selbst ein Boot - führerscheinfrei. Wir waren für 3 Tage in Rom, mit Führung. Dieser Ausflug war ein Highlight, sollte aber sorgfälltig geplant werden. Die Enfahrt nach Rom mit dem PKW ist nicht zu empfehlen bzw. teilweise auch nur eingeschränkt möglich.

Dear Thomas We couldn't have described Colcello better ourselves! As you say, this is a place that's all about the view and switching off from the fast pace of modern life. And yes, if you'd like to visit Rome from here, we recommend catching the direct train from Terontola (near Cortona), leaving your car here. Alternatively, suggest you visit Rome at the beginning or end of your stay at Colcello.

Rust in de inspirerende omgeving van San Leo Bastia, nabij Citta di Castello.
Het huis is een fantastische plek voor mensen die rust willen, af en toe een duik in een heerlijk zwembad en willen wandelen en fietsen vanuit ‘huis’. Beide vragen wel wat conditie en doorzettingsvermogen; de prachtige omgeving is redelijk stevig geaccidenteerd. Een 1:25.000 wandelkaart is niet verkeerd!!. De nabijheid van mooie historische steden - Cortana, Arezzo, Assisi, Perugia - of het gebied rond het meer van Trasimeno. Het huis is comfortabel, maar heeft wat kleine doorgangen; de gemiddeld wat langere Noord-Europeaan moet op zijn hoofd passen. De vlakbij wonende 'care taker', is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. En ondanks dat zij beiden feitelijk geen Engels spreken, loop de communicatie met wat google translate ondersteuning prima! Ook de communicatie met de eigenaar loopt prima; er wordt snel en adequaat gereageerd. Het dorpje San Leo Bastia heeft twee bars en de dichtstbijzijnde heeft ook een aardige pizzeria, waar het heerlijk buiten eten is. Voor ons was het een topplek, waar we in de maand juni vertoefd hebben en elke dag 3x buiten hebben kunnen eten…

Ein wunderschöner Ort um sich zu erholen
Colcello ist in jeder Hinsicht ein wunderschöner Ort um Stille, einen traumhaften Ausblick in die Berge und einen super Pool zu genießen. Sehr aufmerksam, dass die Besitzer für uns extra neue Liegestühle und Handtücher gekauft haben. Sehr nett, dass auch ein kleiner Lebensmittelvorrat bereit gestellt wurde. Der Garten ist idyllisch, freundliche Nachbarn winken aus der Ferne. Das alte, aber stilecht renovierte Haus mit echten Cottoböden sehr angenehm. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen. Nochmals danke für alles!
