When I booked a room a month ago, I have received a confirmation message via hotels.com message. But when I arrived at the hotel, the owner didn't know at all about my reservation and said bluntly "no room available, you can go to my mother's Inn". The other place was dirty and old one, of course I didn't want to stay there! But somehow they were not willing to refund, hence I had to call/message "help line". My time and taxi fare to get there wasted! Watch out this can be you next time!
