Family trip
House was clean and pictures accurate of interior. Grass wasn’t mowed and master shower did not drain well. Wrap around deck was enjoyable as well as the cool breezes. We did rent a cart to go to beach. Quiet neighborhood.

Great stay at Surfside
Perfect location and size for our family of 4 plus my in-laws. A 5 minute walk to the pedestrian beach was very easy, and we enjoyed watching the big ships come in. I grilled out one night and was surprised the propane tanks were full and there were plenty of bbq utensils stocked up. Communication with Aida was seamless and I would definitely stay there again.

Best Family Vacation Ever
This property was everything and more! Even better than we expected. This house is the perfect location and decorated so cute. They have everything we could have ever needed right there. Communication was top notch from day one. I appreciate everything. Our family vacation could not have been better.

Just right for a family of four
We loved the white kitchen with a big table for 6 people. Very stylish, clean and new. Kids loved the bunk bed. The way to the beach took us about 5-7 minutes on foot. Not far at all and a nice walk. Had some issues with remotes, they didn’t make the right volume. Overall very pleasant stay.

Book now!!!
From booking to check out was an absolute breeze with every detail exactly how it was advertised! The house is fantastic in a great location! You will want for nothing in the house, just turn up with your clothes and food. Grill out on the deck, great seating area on the deck that is fenced and safe for kids. Fully equipped kitchen, every appliance and utensil you will ever need! The inside is really well decorated and looked after! If you have kids this place is a must!! We will be booking again!

A nice house at a comfortable distance from the beach.
**Delayed review from July 2022** The property manager was very communicative and responsive. The house is pretty much exactly as you see in the pictures, no surprises. It’s great for a family, the bunk bed in the secondary bedroom sleeps four. Two bathrooms also helps with a larger group. I appreciated that the deck had a gate to the staircase, I felt a little more at ease sitting outside with my toddler. I didn’t have to worry about him trying to go down the stairs while sitting on the deck. There’s not a particularly stunning view, but you can see some of the large cargo vessels from the deck. The kitchen is nice, appropriately stocked with various cookware. The dining table could be a bit bigger considering the house could sleep more than four people, but it’s cute and matched the aesthetics. The decor was nice and beach-feeling, it all seemed very well suited for a family. The outdoor shower was great for rinsing off sandy kids before they went upstairs into the house. The house was nice, I would recommend the owner put up some sort of blinds or curtains on the French doors to enhance privacy and reduce the sun from heating up the living room so much.

Nearby Getaway
After reading a scathing review just weeks before our arrival, I was a bit apprehensive about our reservation. Look, if you expect someone to turn down the bedspreads and leave a chocolate mint on the pillow each evening, this is not the place for you. But... If you want a recently remodeled, clean place that is nearby any of the Surfside activities, the "Casa Toucan" would be a good choice. It's roomy inside (and out) and is furnished with anything needed should you want to cook your meals. My only complaints would be having to bring your own drinking water and lug it up the stairs, but that is what Grandkids are for right? Also, the friendly host could have been kind enough to turn down the sun about a gazillion degrees.

Relaxing week
Our host, Aida, was easy to communicate with. We had an issue with the dishwasher and she got the electrician to come fix it in a timely manner. The house was open and comfortable, just right for our family. Split floor plan gave privacy for each couple. Nicely located… Morning walks with the dog to the beach were a great start to each day. We rented a golf cart which gave us some flexibility. coming and going from the drive on part of the beach..

Bed bugs found
While the house looked nice, and we initially enjoyed our stay; the se ond night of our stay I found a very large bed bug crawling on the wall. After further inspection we found one on the top bunk and noticed my friend had bed bug bites all over his ankles. We informed the host of this and she claimed she would give us a full refund and apologized. Two days letter she messaged acusing us of bringing the bed bugs and refused to give us our refund. My friend most definitely didn't have bed bug bites before the trip and we absolutely did not bring them with us. We would not have cut our trip an entire day short for no reason. I am very disappointed in this stay, and will never use this host again

It is hard to find the correct words to reply to this kind of review, specially because it is the first time this happening to me in almost two years as a host. I received a message Sunday night saying that they found two bedbugs and told me that they were leaving that same night, guests decided to stay the night and left one day early, immediately they asked for a full refund and I told them that I was totally going to do it once I had the house inspected. I had two pest control companies came as an emergency visit (on a 4th of July) to my house and did a thorough inspection looking for bedbugs, they didn’t find any sign of them but had to sprayed anyways just in case. Once I told the guest that they didn’t find anything and sent the company’s written report guest started acting really rude, calling me a liar and cursing, demanding a full refund and threatening to post a bad review. I had no problem giving the guest a refund, I have refunded my guests for much more less than this, but I don’t like to be threatened or being called a liar. The report is available to anyone interested in. I wish you all the best, Aida

Happy Family -- Happy Casa Toucan!
Seven members of our family from grandparents, two moms, two teen boys and a 3 year old princess absolutely enjoyed staying at Casa Toucan. It's prettier and larger than the photos show and it was super clean. In fact it's the cleanest place I've ever rented for the family to stay. I wish the cleaners could come do my own house! Yes, it's true you must walk or drive down to the beach but it's absolutely worth that walk. The decks are wonderful with various seating and you can watch the sunset as well as the sunrise. We didn't use the grill but it sure was there & available. There were bed linens in very good shape and stain free. The towels are thick & nice. I always bring my own because I'm quite picky but Casa Toucan's are lovely. There were sufficient kitchen dishes, bowls, cooking pans available. We did bring our own oven pans and are very glad we did. Of course most people don't doing much baking at the beach! Not a single member of our little group unhappy. Even our dog Amy Joy was happy. Aida was terrific about messaging us & checking on us during our stay. We can't wait to come back and stay longer next time! Do yourself a favor and stay at Casa Toucan!

Fun family weekend getaway

The Little Blue House that Stood
We stayed at Casa Tuscan for the weekend to celebrate my birthday with our daughter and son in law and grand kitties, Gray and Circe. The home looks way better than the pics show. We are thankful that Aida uses her home to invest in the quality of life of others. We are not party people, just loves to kick back and relax and enjoy doing absolutely nothing. We had a terrible windstorm on Friday but, praise God, the house stood the test. We all felt at home and enjoyed our time together. I love that both bedrooms have bathrooms connected. Great little vacation in Surfside. Plenty of restaurant options serving up good food nearby. We had good advice from the other reviews here to use outside water that we brought in. Did not bother to get the big jug filled since we were here only for 2 nights.

nice family getaway
Pictures summed it up pretty well. House was updated nicely and everything worked. I highly suggest filling up the jugs with drinking water. Also pay attention to what hard water can do with you laundry. We picked up groceries at HEB in Lake Jackson on the way in and mostly cooked. Local restaurants a general burger/bar food. We opted to drive a little further out onto the beach to avoid the crowds. Saturday was crowded but we had plenty of room the rest of the time. Overall a great relaxing trip.

Fun at the beach
We really enjoyed Casa Toucan. The house was comfortable, well equipped, and located in the heart of Surfside, with easy access to the beach and jetty park. We specially enjoyed hanging out at the side deck at night after a beach day. We'd definitively book it again in the future.

Excellent stay!
We enjoyed ourselves at Aida’s amazing property! First, the communication was great. I never had to wait an extended period of time for a response. The property was clean and offered a spacious open layout. All the amenities necessary for a cost conscious stay were provided (stovetop, oven, microwave, pots & pans). Most important was the WiFi. The location of the home was within walking distance of the beach and the park area where ships constantly pass. I highly recommend renting a golf cart. We rented one and traveled up and down the beach (actually on the beach) as well as on the road. The kiddos also enjoyed them! I recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Lovely house!
House is exactly as described. So many updates and very cozy. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the top deck in the evening and watching the sunset. Homeowner is very quick to respond and wonderfully accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Great place to relax
We stayed a month and really enjoyed it! Pictures and description are accurate and the host is super-responsive. Comfortable beds and all the appliances & systems are new and worked well. Nice set up for a couple and weekend family visits. The deck is pleasant if a bit rough in spots and watching the giant ships became an unexpected fun pastime, especially at sunset. Great bird watching, too! The house had most things we needed for lots of cooking, we appreciated the big prep/serving bowls and containers for leftovers. You definitely need to bring in water - Surfside’s water tastes, looks and smells terrible and there was a “boil water” advisory for 2 days that we found out about by chance. The host provided a dispenser & 5 gallon jugs which we used for all drinking and cooking, though getting them loaded to counter height was a bit tough even if worth it. Bring cash - the nearby water/ice kiosk only took small bills and change ($1.50/5 gal). The area is mostly quiet and a pleasant walk or bike to the jetty and beach. Sensitive sleepers like me should bring earplugs- sometimes there is a low frequency noise from the shipyard for a day or two at a time and higher winds whistled against the bedroom windows. In addition most windows & all doors did not have screens, so we learned the hard way not to do that when the mosquitoes were most active. The place has great lighting and wonderful natural light. Overall it is a great place to spend time in the area!

Nicely presented home in a quiet community
We don't normally book a new property that has no reviews but in this case we made an impromptu decision to get away for a few days during the Christmas break. What helped our decision was the quality of the listing and the inviting photos. On arrival we were very happy to see that the home lived up to the description. This is no run down beach shack, the home has a modern coastal design. Everything is new and clean, hand wash is included, which really helped to get over our fears of covid-19. The home has everything you need for a short stay, we brought our own meals and had everything we needed to prepare and cook them. The home is cozy and we spent most of our time just winding down (books, games & puzzles). We didn't drive anywhere for three days, just walked to the beach each morning. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there are plenty of mosquitoes, even in winter, so bring bug spray. If you want a quiet break, away from hustle and bustle of everyday life, Surfside is a nice location and within driving distance of Houston.

Great Surfside Getaway for small group/family
We loved our stay at this property. We were in Surfside for 2 nights to see extended family that were staying at another nearby beach house. It was perfect for our family of 3 (2 adults and 6 year old boy) and was welcoming to our relatives (2 adults and 2 children) when they stopped by to visit with us for a bit. We loved the open concept between living room, kitchen and dining, as well as the wrap around deck, where we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset. The kitchen table was perfect for playing games; the entertainment center in the living room provided some fun game and puzzle options (and we brought a few of our own). We bought our bikes and had so much fun riding around the residential/quieter side of Surfside. We were super close to the jetties (Surfside Jetty Park), which was nice for walking and/or fishing, and just a few blocks from beach access. Since we visited during December / “winter” (which doesn’t always translate to “cold” in Texas; temps were actually in the 60s during the day so it felt great outside for us!), it was just cool enough that we didn’t get in the water (although that didn’t stop others). The time of year also didn’t deter the mosquitoes; they were our in full force and were huge, so folks just need to be aware and prepared (coastal mosquitoes are often year round nuisances). The host was very responsive and kind. Anytime we had questions or needed something, she was quick to assist, which made a huge difference to us! There were only 2 minor hiccups - the dryer didn’t seem to be working (which the host said they would get that repaired soon), and the water dispenser was out of water (host provided address of nearby water jug refilling station, but our stay was so short that we didn’t find it necessary to go get any of the 5 gallon jugs refilled) - both of which were really no big deal to us. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better, more positive experience and can’t wait to return! We would love to stay here again and highly recommend this place to others.
