Out of all the cabins and apartments that we rented in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs, Healy, and Seward, Roxanne’s cabin was the cleanest and most comfortable. We rented this cabin to be able to hike at the nearby Matanuska Glacier, which was my favorite activity in Alaska. Our guide on the glacier was wonderful & aware of everyone’s hiking ability.
This cabin has all the necessary appliances in the kitchen and has beautiful views of the lake from almost every room in the cabin. The living room has an oversized leather chair that is extremely comfortable and a matching couch that is beyond comfortable. The bathroom is clean and functional.
The reviewer who said to be sure and stock up on groceries, and gas was correct. We stopped at the one general store on Glenn Highway coming from Palmer. There were a few dry goods, such as macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes, but that was about it. We asked the cashier about gas stations traveling east, and she told us to turn around and go back to the one that we passed a few miles down the road.
The owners live across the driveway, so you are expected to follow the rules and be respectful. I wish I had gotten there just a little bit earlier to have seen the trumpeter swan and her five babies on the beautiful lake in the back. I hope Roxanne has only respectful renters who are there to enjoy the splendor and magnificence of Alaska —in summer, not sure I have hutzpah to face winter.
