Get there early or book online. We got lucky as we arrived just as it opened and got on a tour 40 minutes later
Good to book in advance. You can only enter on a guided tour. If you don't book and need to wait for the next tour, there is a cafe, the Irish museum of modern art (which is free) is 5 mins walk away. The guide was excellent and very well informed. He was obviously passionate about irish history. The prison has been restored and it is an emotional reminder of how political and ordinary prisoners were treated in the not too distant past.
