Vrijstaand, ruim eiland van Lewis op een rustige locatie met uitzicht op het meer

Vrijstaand huis met drie slaapkamers op enkele meters van de oever van Loch Carloway (Sea loch). Onlangs gerenoveerd, bevindt het zich in de perfecte positie aan de westkust van het eiland om historische bezienswaardigheden te bezoeken zoals de Callanish Standing Stones en de Carloway Broch. Ook in het dorp zijn de wereldberoemde Garenin Black Houses die een indicatie geven van hoe eilandbewoners vroeger leefden. Er zijn twee fantastische stranden (Dalmore en Dalbeg) binnen 5 minuten rijden en een aantal prachtige binnen- en kustwandelingen bereikbaar vanaf de accommodatie. Er zijn veel forellen lochs in de plaats en vissen op zalm op de Carloway River (vergunningen verkrijgbaar bij Carloway Angling Club). Zeevissen, strandvissen en piervissen zijn ook populaire activiteiten.

Het pand is onlangs gerenoveerd met een nieuwe keuken, badkamer, nieuwe houten vloeren en vloerbedekking. Er zijn 2 slaapkamers, een met een tweepersoonsbed en de andere met twee eenpersoonsbedden. Een derde slaapkamer heeft stapelbedden, ideaal geschikt voor kinderen. Een kinderbedje is ook beschikbaar.

Er zijn hengels voor gebruik, strandmeubels en tal van kinderspeelgoed bewaard in de vrijstaande garage. Wi-Fi is ook beschikbaar

Gasten hebben volledige toegang tot alle delen van het pand, met uitzondering van een afgesloten kast in het stapelbed.

Er zal altijd iemand aanwezig zijn om eventuele vragen te beantwoorden. Een volledige lijst met dingen om te doen zal beschikbaar zijn in het huis

Andere dingen om op te merken

Bij het boeken is het essentieel om te controleren of als u een auto meeneemt dat er ruimte op de veerboot is, want in de zomer zijn ze meestal goed geboekt.

Er is geen winkel of tankstation in Carloway. De dichtstbijzijnde zijn ofwel op Barvas of Cameron Terrace / Leurbost waar u een goede selectie van eten, wijnen en gedistilleerde dranken kunt krijgen en beide hebben
benzine / diesel. Ze dragen ook een breed scala aan andere goederen - van muggenspray. Er zijn hengels voor gebruik, strandmeubels en tal van kinderspeelgoed bewaard in de vrijstaande garage. Wi-Fi is ook beschikbaar en vistuig om te surfen apparatuur (Barvas). In Stornoway zijn er twee supermarkten - Tesco bij de veerbootterminal en de Coop op weg naar het westen richting de stad.

Het Doune Braes Hotel biedt maaltijden (best te boeken) en afhaalmaaltijden. Het heeft een bar en een lounge. Forty North (Bragar) doet hetzelfde, maar je moet afhaalmaaltijden bestellen en verzamelen. Menu's voor zowel Doune Braes als Forty North staan in de map, maar kunnen worden gewijzigd.

Er is natuurlijk een brede selectie van restaurants in Stornoway - An Lanntair heeft een topkok in Kenny Mackay en Digby Chick wordt aanbevolen. Ga niet langs Camerons fish and chips shop zonder te proeven!

Zich verplaatsen

Een auto is essentieel

Ferry:
De meeste mensen reizen over zee naar Lewis met Caledonian McBrayne. Ze exploiteren twee keer per dag diensten van Ullapool naar Stornoway, of als alternatief exploiteren ze een kortere ferry overtocht tussen Uig (Isle of Skye) en Tarbert (Harris). De veerboottarieven zijn echt concurrerend in tegenstelling tot vliegen en een auto huren.

Carloway ligt op ongeveer 24 mijl van Stornoway, en ongeveer 45 mijl van Tarbert. Volg de borden naar Càrlabhagh (Carloway) op de A858. Vergeet niet te letten op de Gaelische naam op verkeersborden. Wanneer u Carloway bereikt, passeert u het enige viaduct op de Western Isles en slaat u linksaf richting de pier aangegeven Cidhe Càrlabhagh. Volg de weg naar rechts en het is het laatste huis aan de rechterkant met een opvallende rode garagedeur

vliegen:
Het enige vliegveld op het eiland is in Stornoway. Flybe vliegt dagelijks naar Stornoway vanuit Inverness, Glasgow en Edinburgh. Eastern Airways biedt vluchten, van maandag tot vrijdag, naar Stornoway vanuit Aberdeen.

We were in the house of Mairie and Denny in Carloway Isle of Lewis; It was a very pleasant stay, with a lot of extras in the house for people from 0 till 100. Al the spices in the kitchen, the first things you nee to cook etc; everything was very clean and we liked the view. Thank you for the wine, the biscuits and the lovely cheese. Exactly what we hoped

We loved our stay here on Lewis. The house had everything you could need, the coziest kitchen, books and toys for the kids, beach towels, beach things, and the best part, the owners are so lovely and provided so much info on the area and their family history which made it really special. The house is in a beautiful spot and near to a very well stocked community supermarket.

A lovely, comfortable and well-equipped cottage at a beautiful location. Kenny and Mairi were very helpful. The community shop in Carloway was very convenient for groceries. Fantastic beaches are nearby and it is only a short drive to the Calanais Standing Stones. A great base to explore the Isle of Lewis.

A quaint cottage

The house was in a nice area near Carloway. You have views of the water from the front of the house. The instructions that were sent prior to arriving were very detailed. Being an older house and next to the sea, it is very understandable that we could smell a lot of mold in the house. It was so strong it made both of us feel unwell. If you are susceptible to mold, I would contact the owner to see what remedy that have done. We did not contact the owner about the issue during our 3 night stay as we know there was nothing they could do to fix it.

Very clean, perfectly appointed small cottage in quiet location. Close to the highway for access to elsewhere on the island. Hosts were very helpful and responsive, including leaving us a welcome snack. They had a binder full of local activities/recommendations. The kitchen had all the amenities you could wish for. We came in late but had a very warm and nice welcom and good and helpful contact with the owner. The house was complete with everything you need, and for the first evening and morning there also was some food present. We had a stay of only 3 nights, but would have liked to stay longer. Hope to come back in future.

Wonderful cottage stay

Kenny and Mairi were fantastic at communicating and making sure we found Lithir with perfect directions. The home was better than we imagined and the children loved all the hidden gems of toys, games, puzzles, maps, books and more. The views were beautiful and the house so cosy. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Cosy stay overlooking the loch

What's not to like? A very comfortable cottage by the side of the loch in Carloway, We were all very comfortable and spoiled by the well-equipped kitchen, ideal for self-catering. Plenty of instruction books for those not familiar with induction hobs, lots of reading material about the locale, nice to have the well-stocked community shop nearby. A wonderful place to stay as a base for Lewis and Harris. Thank you!

Lithir - the perfect home from home

This was our second holiday at this cosy, homely cottage. Mairi is so thoughtful - everything was provided, and there was also a lovely welcome pack on our arrival. Beds are very comfortable, and this location is incredibly quiet, so you are guaranteed a perfect night's sleep. The wildlife on Lewis is amazing - this year we actually watched Black-throated Divers courting on the loch whilst sat at the dining table, and then 3 Cuckoos in a chase around the trees in the front garden, plus Corncrakes calling at night. Amazing. This year we brought our kayaks, and I have to say that Lithir is about as good as it gets as a kayaking location. You can store your kayak in the garage on its trolley, just roll down the drive, then the slipway is about 30 metres along the road. You can then explore the inner loch if the weather's dodgy, otherwise paddle out beyond Carloway harbour and the world's your oyster. Also worth a mention is the local Carloway Community Shop and café. This is about 2 minutes away and provides pretty much everything you'll need, with very friendly and helpful staff, and saving you driving back to Stornoway for a groceries top-up. All in all, if you want Hebridean hospitality in the best location for exploring Lewis, come to Lithir.

Quiet and peaceful

The location of the cottage in Carloway is great for exploring the island of Lewis, it’s archeological sites, many walks and hikes. There is a well stocked shop in town for anything you need. The house is cozy and peaceful looking out on the loch in front. The kitchen has good supplies for cooking. It is the perfect place for rest and renewal in the beauty of the western isles, and also as a base for outdoor activities.

The cottage is perfectly situated for hiking and close to some of the best local attrations. The nearby store has everything you need and more allowing for easy grocery shopping. My mother and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. So quiet and peaceful with the cottage provided with everything you need to make life comfortable. After we left we realised my mother had left behind her hearing aids. We contacted Mairi who posted them that day. They arrived home before my mother!! Thanks for a wonderful visit.

Peaceful Carloway haven

Lithir is an individual 50's bungalow in, for us, a very good location, with the loch immediately over the very quiet road, and the only sounds those of the local birdlife. The accommodation was practical and comfortable, and having use of the garage was very helpful, as we hired a kayak during our stay. The outlook from the bungalow was very scenic, with excellent views from 3 of the rooms. The opening of the new Carloway community shop, only 2 minute's drive away, was a major convenience, as it saved driving back to Stornoway for many daily essentials. The store is extremely well stocked, and I would highly recommend its patronage. We fell in love with Lewis - the coastal scenery is stunning, and the wildlife exceptional - we had very good views of otters, both British eagles, a pod of 8 Orcas, Minke Whales and very much more. All in all, we had a lovely stay here, and are very eager to return.

We had such an amazing time on the Isle of Lewis and renting this cottage greatly enhanced the experience. The family who owns this property were helpful, communicated promptly and the cottage itself was so comfortable and quaint. Added bonus, it seemed to be centrally located for what we wanted to do. I highly recommend renting this property!
