This Ryokan is a worthwhile experience unto itself. It was a very comfortable gentle transition into Japanese culture. It's a low-key vibe with a lot of changing shoes and slippers ( three types of slippers) Staff were as helpful and gracious as possible in that process as well as handly logistics. They were always there to help us in every way. They were responsible and prompt when making restaurant reservations for us (a must) in Kyoto. Good communications.
We found the standard double room small., particularly the bathroom We had the room for three our last night and it was great. We'd highly recommend the room for three and ask them to double your mattress if you have back concerns. They offered my wife that option. It helped. Breakfast was good, not great compared to some of the other places we have stayed, but probably very good by typical Japanese standards as we were told.
The only downside is its location was not inconvenient for us by public transportation or walking to where we wanted to go. We took public transportation between sites, but to get to this hotel from the main sites we found it was more efficient with our limited time to take a Taxi/Uber. That was about 7-10 minute ride $7ride each way. The experience, especially the quality of the staff, is worth it. Just a consideration. I would highly recommend this place for those looking for a cultural experience and nice traditional Japanese lodging over being close to a group of tourist sites.
