'This self-acclaimed hotel closed a year ago in a totally run-down state. Some four months ago it was bought by a new (US citizen) owner who is trying to rebuild the place. Currently there is one room that looks quite okay, however there is no reception, no personnel apart from a local housekeeper.

'The door lock was broken, there was a lot of noise on the second floor, and the dog barked incessantly. I checked that breakfast was included, and he said, "Let me show you a picture of where it says so." I showed it to him, even though he knows perfectly well it's included. The breakfast was tasteless. The next day we had to find another place.'

Everything was great from check-in, rooms (nothing special but did have hot water and AC, very small TV), parking (real close, pay separately ($5/night), pool, breakfast was great. Good communication prior. We reserved a Masaya volcano tour the day we arrived. Excellent service.'

'I would give Plaza Marbella a 4/5. Overall, it was a really good stay, mainly because the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the pool area was nice.
That said, there are a few things that could be improved. Some areas feel a bit outdated and worn, and the kitchen was very basic – it could use a few more essentials (even a kitchen towel would help). The balcony was often covered in bird droppings, and it didn’t seem like it was being cleaned regularly, even just the table.
