See cheese made at Ashe Co. Cheese Factory, try local brews at New River Brewery, and grab a bite to eat at Red Dog Bar & Bistro. If you're out on a Saturday night, check out Boondocks Brew Haus for live music and delicious drinks. You're also minutes away from Thistle Meadow Winery, so head out for a wine tasting or one of the winery's many events.
- The High Country has no shortage of outdoor recreation. Fish, hike, bike, paddle, whatever your heart desires. You're within 20 minutes of New River access points and local outfitters if you want to spend a day floating on the water. If you want to venture a little further out, take the 45-minute drive up to Grayson Highlands State Park, where you can explore miles of scenic hiking trails and look for the park's residents—wild miniature ponies!
- Boone is roughly an hour away but well worth the drive. With even more shopping and dining options, you can spend a whole day in the home of Appalachian State University. Boone and the nearby town of Blowing Rock are close to several Blue Ridge Parkway access points, where you can discover popular hiking trails like Rough Ridge and the famous Linn Cove Viaduct. While the parkway is beautiful year-round, it's especially breathtaking during autumn when the fall foliage turns the mountains into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
