If you're looking for a very special 5 star property in a quiet spot just a short drive from the Aravis pistes, then look no further.

This unique farmhouse close to the village of Les Clefs was built in 1827 by a nobleman from Chambery who wanted a mountain retreat for occasional visits. They would stay in the south-facing stone part of the chalet, which has light-filled rooms with high ceilings and incredible views over the valley to La Tournette, while the farmworkers live in the wooden parts at the back. In fact, the name Ladroit comes from the old Savoyard term l'adret, which means the best side of the house, facing the sun!

Now the whole chalet is fit for nobility, with modern convenience and traditional comfort sitting side by side.

Chalet Ladroit now takes up most of the building (307m²), although there is a small apartment on the ground floor which is rented privately, and has its own entrance and outside space on the opposite side of the chalet.

You'll need a car (with snow tyres and chains in the winter), but the stunning views from the chalet make the drive more than worth it. The nearest shops are a five-minute drive away in Thônes. Guests can look forward to the sauna, the hammam and an indoor heated pool with contra-current, jacuzzi and massage jets!

Covered steps lead up from the car park to the front door which opens on to the open plan living area – a well equipped kitchen with a huge range cooker, a large dining table which easily seats 12, and a cosy seating area, with a flat screen television and doors on to the terrace. From the lounge you will access the sauna, the hammam and the indoor heated pool, as well as another double bedroom, a shower room and independent WC.

A wooden floating staircase leads up to the mezzanine, where there is a desk and a quiet spot to read or play, as well as the master bedroom suite which has a private balcony and a bathroom with the most stunning views! The other three bedrooms are on the ground floor, and all are en suite. All have double beds and two of the rooms also have a single bed.

The outside space is a real feature of this property, with a large sunny terrace perfect for catching some sun and a covered dining area seating 12, which can be used all year round – the perfect place for enjoying dinner while the sun sets behind the mountains.

The former cheese cellar below the chalet is now a ski store, where you can keep all your outdoor gear.

ABOUT THE AREA ...

Chalet Ladroit is in Les Clefs, close to Thônes and Manigod/Croix Fry and on the road up to the Col de Plan Bois.

Access to the Aravis ski area, with its 220km of pistes to suit all abilities, is easiest from the D12 then the D16 through Manigod village. Although it's a drive to the pistes, access roads and the drive are cleared regularly, making the journey fairly quick, but you'll need snow chains.

The resorts of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz are also easily accessible.

There's a great choice of cross-country skiing, snow-shoe walking around the La Tournette mountain and walking trails, some of which begin at the front door. For the ultimate in winter fun, try dog-sledding, paragliding on skis, horse-drawn sleigh rides or ski joering - skiing while being towed by a horse!

Non-skiers are not forgotten in winter, with the indoor and outdoor swimming pools in La Clusaz, ice skating rinks and cinemas, and sophisticated shopping in nearby Annecy and Geneva.

But if you think Chalet Ladroit is the perfect place for a winter holiday, just wait until you see it in the summer!

Lush green pastures replace the snowy pistes, and the view across to Tournette from the chalet and the terrace , against a cloudless blue sky, is just stunning.

If you love the great outdoors it doesn't come much better. But there's plenty to do just minutes away. Golfers will be spoiled for choice, with three excellent golf courses within a 30-minute drive, and Lake Annecy is just a 25-minute drive away. Here you can swim in crystal clear waters, or try water sports such as wakeboarding, sailing, waterskiing, kayaking and diving.

Back in the mountains, thrill-seekers might like to try canyoning, white-water rafting or climbing on a via ferrata circuit. Cyclists and mountain bikers have a huge choice of tracks including the 10% climb between Les Clefs and the Col de Plan Bois which passes behind the chalet. In the resorts you can always take the ski-lift up the mountain to make life easier.

Keen cyclists can challenge themselves on some of the Tour de France's most famous climbs, while the scenic (and flat) 40km cycle path from Annecy to Ugine can be enjoyed by the whole family.

At the end of a busy day the beautiful sheltered terrace at Chalet Ladroit is the perfect place to make the most of an evening with friends - unless of you would rather relax in the sauna, hammam or indoor fitness pool.

Please note there is a tenant living in a small apartment in Chalet Ladroit all year round.
