A Disappointing Stay – Poor Cleanliness, Unbearable Noise and Empty Promises
Unfortunately, this apartment and the service provided by GuestReady seriously ruined our holiday.
The apartment itself: Check-in was scheduled for 3 pm, and we had informed GuestReady that we would arrive later, at around 6 pm. Yet when we arrived at approximately 6:30 pm, the person responsible for the cleaning arrived at the same time as us and only then started cleaning. We had to wait outside and could only enter at around 8 pm.
Even after the cleaning, the apartment was clearly not clean. We found actual toenail clippings on the bedside table and dirt in other areas of the apartment. For example, the entire kitchen front was covered in fingerprints from previous guests. We repeatedly asked for a proper, thorough cleaning, but it took three days for someone to return. Despite being promised that the apartment would be properly cleaned again, the cleaner only cleaned the specific areas we had pointed out. We are not particularly fussy when it comes to cleanliness, but these were basic hygiene standards that were simply not met. The apartment did not feel properly clean or hygienic at all.
After a few days, we also found a dead cockroach on the kitchen countertop, which was particularly disgusting given the existing cleanliness issues.
Another issue was the location of the rubbish bins directly outside the windows. They smelled absolutely foul every day, attracted lots of flies, and when the rubbish was collected, it happened in the middle of the night.
The noise was another major problem. You could hear virtually every movement from the apartment above, as if the people were right inside our apartment. The noise continued well past midnight every single night. On three of our eight nights, it continued until around 4 or 5 am. We could not sleep through a single night during our stay, making it impossible to properly rest or relax. We are not particularly sensitive to noise, but the level of sound insulation in this apartment was genuinely unacceptable. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful to stay, this apartment is absolutely not the right choice.
GuestReady’s customer service: Unfortunately, the way GuestReady handled these issues made an already bad experience even worse. We contacted them repeatedly by both email and phone, explained our concerns and asked for alternative accommodation because we no longer felt comfortable staying in the apartment.
We were repeatedly promised that someone would get back to us by the end of the day, but this rarely happened. Instead, we had to contact them again the following day, explain the issues all over again and chase updates ourselves. We were constantly told that our case was a priority and had been escalated, yet meaningful action never followed.
On the night before our final night, we also found that the key to the building entrance was missing from the lockbox. We called GuestReady twice, but nobody answered. Fortunately, a neighbour eventually let us into the building.
We spent a substantial part of our holiday chasing GuestReady for answers instead of enjoying our time in Lisbon. Although the staff were polite in their messages, politeness is not enough when the actual issues remain unresolved.
In the end, GuestReady offered us very little compensation despite acknowledging the various problems. They refused to reconsider their calculation, even though the cleanliness issues persisted and the noise affected every single night.
We came here for a relaxing holiday and instead spent much of it dealing with an unclean apartment, unbearable noise, unpleasant smells and a customer service team that repeatedly made promises without delivering a proper solution.
We would not recommend this apartment or GuestReady based on our experience.
