Best place to stay in Merida
It was one of the best stay in our travels - ‘a home away from home’. The room, location, gourmet breakfast is outstanding but what truly sets this place apart is the warmth of the hosts. Sara and Neil are so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I wouldn’t even consider staying at a different place next time I am in Merida.

The hotel and the room were beautiful, clean, and comfortable, but the standout feature of the Diplomat was the service and the attention to detail.

Great Merida Stay
Our stay was generally exceptional as the staff and owners were among the kindest people we have ever encountered. The overall atmosphere of the property was phenomenal- the gift shop was a neat touch. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding and the staff makes excellent lower sugar margaritas and mojitos. They were all very kind. Our biggest issue was bed comfort. Perhaps it may be time to update box springs or mattresses. Never have we woke up hurting every morning at a higher end property. We asked for an extra mattress topper, however, none was made available. Luckily, they offered a couples massage on site- which was much needed. We would stay here again, but perhaps we will look for a property with more comfortable beds and compare the overall experience.

Hôtel parfait avec des hôtes parfaits !
Hôtel charmant à Merida. Sara et Neil sont des hôtes parfaits, de très bons conseils sur Merida et la péninsule du Yucatan. Hôtel à taille humaine (5 chambres), on s’y sent comme à la maison. Encore un autre positif : le petit-déjeuner est exquis et change tout les jours. La décoration est recherchée et soignée. Vous pouvez réserver les yeux fermés.

The hospitality you have been looking for
If you are heading to Merida- this place is such a wealth of comfort, style and amazing people. The owners, sara and Neil have so much knowledge of the region and the local sights- it'a impossible to truly articulate what a special place this is from their hospitality to the environment, the beautiful design, the delicious food and the overall safety. Truly cannot say enough!

We recently spent a wonderful holiday in Merida. We loved the city and all it has to offer. Staying at The Diplomat was definitely our most favorite discovery. The attention to detail can be appreciated as soon as you set foot on the property. The owners, who manage the property, are wonderful hosts who make sure your stay at their hotel is second to none. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing boutique property. Sara & Neil, and their staff were 10's all around. They are so helpful and knowledgeable with anything you might need during your stay in Merida or anywhere in the Peninsula. Delicious home cooked breakfast of local cuisine everyday was an even bigger plus. Community pay as you go Beers and soft drinks. Hand crafted cocktails made to order poolside. Updated modern rooms, TVs with Netflix and local cable, soft sheets, nice bathrooms, and GREAT A/C. Uber anywhere in centro Merida within 10 mins. And most importantly, top notch, timely email communication with the hosts.

Among the best hotels anywhere!
I have traveled all over the world (no lie!) and have had the privilege of staying in some of the finest hotels. And this would rank among one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. The suites are huge. The property is beautiful, private and intimate. The service is personal, accommodating and friendly...never stuffy! The owners’ knowledge of the area was impressive as was their guidance for our best touring options. Sara and Neil got it right! Can’t wait to return.

Amazing customer service! Sara greeted us at the door, showed us our room and pool area, offered refreshments and told us a bit about the area. Bath amenities were very nice made from locally sourced honey.

Great experience, the hotel that Sara and Neil run is based more on how they can make you feel special... and they 100% accomplish it... with every detail, with every conversation, you end up feeling you are staying with your family. Never before experienced this concept, but for those who want to experience the real flavor of a town with a mix of top notch hotel service, The Diplomat is a place you shouldn’t miss.

Perfect oasis in historic centro
I can't recommend The Diplomat highly enough! Once you walk through the grand front door, you'll discover a lush oasis just blocks from the historic city center. The rooms were clean, bright and charming and no details were overlooked in the hotel's recent renovation. The owners, Sara and Neil, were wonderful hosts who welcomed us warmly and were excited to share their love for the area. Sara's daily homemade breakfasts and baked goods were a highlight, as was returning after a long day to Neil's (generous) margaritas by the beautiful pool. They recommended excellent restaurants and gladly helped us plan tours, sights to see and even the rest of our stay in the Yucatan after we checked out. Their suggestions and local tips (don't miss the little blue map booklet they have at check-in) truly made our first visit to Merida so much better. Don't think twice about booking this gem - we'll definitely be back!

Outstanding experience due to helpfulness of hosts
Just returned from my seventh trip to the Yucatan; for my partner it was the first trip. We both found the Diplomat outstanding. Not only are the rooms lovely and the breakfast superb but Neil and Sarah are as helpful as any hosts could ever be. They gave us super recommendations for places to visit and excellent restaurant recommendations. Noel, the American driver whom they recommend is a treasure. Ten star experience.

A true gem and a must stay...
Highly recommended and you need not look any further than the Diplomat.... Although I often read other travellers’ opinions prior to booking, I rarely write a review. This review is an exception as it truly is THE place to stay while in Merida, from the comfort of the rooms, to the absolute 6 star service! The owners make the experience so personal that you feel you are part of their extended family. They have a wealth of knowledge of the area and the breakfasts, wow, the breakfast raises the bar to a new level! For those, like myself, who get carried away researching where they stay, I suggest you just book the Diplomat with confidence and concentrate on enjoying the many experiences Merida has to offer. A true gem. My wife and I look forward to our return ....

El hotel es un oasis en el centro de Merida. Limpio, elegante, con mucha atencion personal, es un hotelito boutique precioso, con facilidad de estacionar. Gorgeous hotel and hosts
We drove here in a hire car, using a satnav. I was a little concerned we had taken a wrong turn as the neighbourhood looks a little run down. However, we found the hotel, parked up and were greeted by Neil who led us into an oasis of calm and luxury. This tiny little boutique hotel only has 4 suites so book early to avoid disappointment; you won't regret it. It really is gorgeous, impeccably designed and furnished, and supremely comfortable. Sara and Neil went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable, from the welcome drinks and snacks when we arrived to giving us recommendations for our (brief) time in Merida and booking us a table at their favourite restaurant. We had to leave early the next morning and were fully expecting to miss breakfast, but Sara got up early especially to make us coffee and delicious breakfast burritos! Amazing hospitality. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night, but we will definitely return. Thanks Sara & Neil, amazing hosts and beautiful hotel.

This was a wonderful stay, I loved the quite intimate atmosphere, everything was impeccable and the rooms and common area´s design and architecture is just gorgeous. The couple that owns and manages the hotel are extremely nice and friendly, truly a pleasure to get to know!

My husband and I recently stayed at The Diplomat. The owners, Neil and Sara really made our stay so enjoyable. They helped us do some things we wanted to do and we really had a great time. Thank you both. I would say if you are looking for personal service stay here. The Breakfast was wonderful and always so nicely presented. You cannot go wrong by choosing this hotel.
