Het hotel ligt op een prettige locatie, 1 straatje achter Ocean Drive. Dus net niet in de drukte, maar wel om de hoek. Strand op loopafstand. Het is een pand uit 1931, maar de kamer zijn mooi opgeknapt, en de douche is deels authentiek, deels modern. Wordt goed bijgehouden.

Receptie van het hotel is aan de overkant van de straat in een ander hotel. Er is geen lift aanwezig. Als je dus een kamer p de 3 verdieping hebt, wordt het trappen lopen. Op de 1e/begane grond slapen zou ik niet aanraden i.v.m. het muziek die ze tot laat in de uurtjes bij de bar spelen. Maar de locatie is op en top. Vlakbij Oceans drive en het strand.

Hi Vinita. Thank you for review. You are correct, our reception is across the street at our sister hotel. We are a historic art deco hotel that unfortunately, was originally built without an elevator. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We have a lobby bar that serves complimentary Happy Hour drinks nightly and plays music, at a nice volume for the atmosphere. We are just a block to the beach and the famous Ocean Drive where there are plenty of restaurants and entertainment options. We hope you will consider us again for a future stay.

To start, lady at the reception was very rude to us when we tried to express our displeasure with having to wait 10 minutes for someone to show up at reception desk. Then they put us in the first room right next to the lobby where they had loud music and parties until 3 AM almost every night of our stay. For 3 out of 5-day stay we did not have hot water and our room was cleaned only 2 times in 5 days.

There was no hot water at the property the entire stay. Friday-Sunday. I booked a double room and upon arrival was told that booking through a 3rd party such as Expedia will not guarantee the room that you paid for. The tv did not work. You have to go across the street with dirty towels to exchange them. There was no concierge at Hotel Shelly. The lightskin dominican lady with the chewed up teeth at the sister location attitude was awful. 0/5. Please do not book here unless you live in the projects and is use to cold water, 1 bed and a static tv.

I love this hotel it a little dated but the rooms are clean and bed are comfortable. The staff was nice well. I been a customer for many years. I would love to have happy hours back. I will be back i enjoyed my stay.

The hotel has no elevator so you have to walk up flights of stairs there isn’t anyone at the front desk or any service staff available when you need things like towels and or ice, so I just kept going behind a bargain it myself

To begin with there is no check in desk at the property.There is a bar in the main lobby that opens at 5pm and will remain open well past 2am if there are clients.I had to contact the hotel to request a room upgrade prior to the trip but it was not easy.If you call the main hotel Shelley no one answers the phone if you contact the hotel management group by phone they make you email them and it takes them more than 24 hours to respond.When I finally arrived for check in I got to my room on the first floor a few doors away from the bar and the room was stuffy and moist and had an odor of mold.The air conditioner was not working and just pushed around the bad air.Any time it would turn on there was little bugs flying in the room, I tried to give it a pass because we’re near the ocean but as the days progressed the moisture level and odor in the room increased.I woke up extremely congested every morning and essentially wet because of how damp it was in the room.On the 3rd night of the stay I requested a room change the hotel employee came into the room to make sure that the room indeed was as I had stated and before walking into the room she noticed and said oh yes I’ll put in a request for room change but there was nothing they could do for the night.The following morning we were changed to a room on the 3rd floor and it turned out that the hotel does not have any visible elevator access so we had to carry our bags up.Requesting refund they offered an insulting $100.

Good place to stay if you’re just looking for a place to pass out and shower right on South Beach around everything you need could walk to adjust about everywhere hotel did have a little musty smell to it but me and my friend stayed for a weekend for her birthday and we had a good time And it did suffice for what we needed a place to crash and a place to shower I’m from New York so to me, the hotel was average

Convenient, close to Ocean Drive with lots of restaurants and access to the beach. Quiet and clean, very friendly staff. The only negative is no luggage storage and early check out at 11am (I was able to extend by 1 hour without extra charge)

Cheap but really should be cheaper
There is no elevator at this hotel, so if you are staying on the third floor, you have to bring all your luggage up the stairs on your own. They do not offer help with luggage. You have to check in at the hotel across the street and anything you need from Staff you have to contact them across the street. at one point our hot water wasn't working, and I was calling for 15 minutes and they didn't answer, so I had to get dressed and go across the street to talk to them. When I told them that I was calling for 15 minutes, they said they don't answer the phone if they are checking someone in. The hotel room is very old, the doors do not align so they are visible cracks to peek into the room. That being said there is no sound for thing so you can hear everything that happens in the hallway. There are no curtains to block out the light from outside blinds so it is very bright all through the night because the neighbors lights are on all night. The hot water in the shower is installed incorrectly, so you have to learn the trick to get the hot water to work, which is illogical to most people. In the end, I would not stay here. I would pay $40 more to go stay at a normal hotel or you can have a hot shower and sleep in peace.

It’s great for a fly-by-night stay. It’s conveniently priced and is in a great location. You can walk to anywhere you want to be. We stayed on the 1st floor this time, I wouldn’t next time because of the music and the constant talking and bumping going on at the bar that can potentially go on until 2a-5a. We stayed on the 3rd floor the first time and all of that was not an issue. The rooms were kind of clean, but not pristine. I would stay again if it was for one night only.

The keycards to our room would not work even after multiple trips to get them reprogrammed, and you have to go downstairs and across the street to the Chesterfield in order to talk to an employee. The toilet in the unit was also not working when we tried to use it in the morning.

There is not a front desk attendant at this property. You have to walk across the street to the partner hotel for information, beach towels etc. The bar was being renovated and opened our first night there - it’s a beautiful bar and the owner is wonderful - was the best part of our stay.

If you can get past the smell of the carpet on the stairs, you will get to an "acceptable" room. No insulation against noise. If they just ripped up the carpet, they would see a huge improvement.

Not a place to stay if you have respiratory issues
Hotel was an older hotel, if you have any allergies or respiratory issues you might want to reconsider. The air circulation is poor even with the air condition on. It does smell of mold. I’m sure due to the humidity but I struggle with respiratory issues and this was an issue for me. The plumbing is old and the hot water is not very hot. The beds are comfortable and it’s walking distance to the beach and many shops. No one is ever at the front desk until 11 PM.
