Château Versailles – Elegant Charm with a Few Rough Edges
We recently stayed at Château Versailles in Montreal and, overall, had a lovely experience. This charming boutique hotel is full of old-world character—from the creaky floors and crank windows to the tastefully elegant décor featuring ceiling and wall mosaics, decorative chair rails, pillars, and beautiful details throughout. It’s definitely not your typical modern chain hotel, and that’s a big part of its appeal.
Our room was especially cozy. The bed was comfortable, dressed in quality linens, and the bathroom was outfitted with plush towels, a lighted makeup mirror, and pleasantly fragranced soaps and shampoos. We also appreciated the in-room safe, fridge, and Nespresso machine with cups—a lovely touch.
Staff at the front desk were always helpful and friendly, and the fact that they offer umbrellas to borrow was much appreciated.
One downside worth mentioning is the lack of an elevator. Guests must climb a flight of stairs to reach the reception area, which might be a challenge for those with mobility issues. The toilets are also quite low, again posing an issue for those with knee or back problems.
However, the biggest disappointment during our stay was the breakfast experience.
