Very kind staff, nice, big rooms, good location in the Westlands. But the pricing policy in the restaurant is something you need to get used to. If you order a main course (500 - 900 KES), the waiter asks you wish side dish you would like to have (e.g. steamed rice, or naan), becuase you cannnot eat the main course without side dish. But be aware: the side dish is not included, you'll have to pay it separately. So, it turned out quite expensive for me, but the portions are large. And it tastes good!

The hotel is located in the very heart of Westlands which is a district with many bars and restaurants. Rooms are in the 6th and 7th floor of an office building. From the balcony of my room, I had a great view at the iconic One Place building. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable, but the furniture a bit run down. For 40€ that's totally fine though. I would rather classify it as 3-star.

Nice place. However a member of the staff has been stalking me since my stay. He must have went into the system stole my phone number. Messaged me on WhatsApp. Tried several times to become my Facebook friend. It’s stopped me from wanting to book here again. I liked the hotel and Location very much but he’s been a creep. I didn’t enjoy this. I think it’s rotten to have someone stalk you from a stay at their job.

Comfortable stay at a budget cost
Room was comfortable with fast wifi, however the power to the building turned off twice during our 2 day stay which obviously effected it; in addition, the hot water system needed to be turned on at the wall and so was also effected with the loss of power. The adjoining restaurant, Vista, was very quiet but the food was to a really good standard. I would very much recommend the cheese naan! Overall, giving some leniency to the power loss, I would recommend a stay at Hotel Emerald.

Definitely recommended
Fantastic location and fabulous room. We stayed in a deluxe room that was incredibly spacious with a huge bathtub. The staff were exceptional and helped us organize ubers, gave us suggestions of where to go in the area and really went above and beyond. The owner was there and was incredibly friendly. We felt very at home. The location is walkable and felt very safe. We will definitely be returning.

The pictures are not the real thing there. The furnitures are old and dated. The bathtub can’t fit a baby left alone an adult. The noise around the hotel is too loud cos of the club. I will not recommend this place to anyone.

I really enjoyed the Hotel and staff was excellent. The only aggravating thing was the card key for my room. It never worked and every time I came in I had to stop by the front desk and they had to send a member of the staff to let me in my room. If they fix this, I wouldn't have a complaint. Overall good stay though and is in a great location.

Hotel Emerald
Good location in the Westlands area. Close to many restaurants, bars clubs and casinos. The hotel is based within a shopping complex on the 6th floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. The girl at reception helped book a day tour which included a tour to the National Park, Baby Elephant Sanctuary, Snake and Crocodile Park.

Not worth the price
The pictures that are shown on websites must be when the hotel first open up. The rooms look nothing like the pictures and was quite dated. I checked in late, due to a late flight and when I arrived at the hotel ALL workers were asleep. Checking was painless and quick. Arriving at the room I found it to have outdated furniture and very dark inside. Lights were missing bulbs, the refrigerator did not work, mold was in every crack of the shower floor. Cable had limited channels. WIFI was so slow that I had to go into the hallway to use it. Breakfast was adequate. The big plus was all hotel workers and security were friendly and gave you a greeting when they saw you, so I had no problem with the staff. This is NOT a three star hotel and managment / owners should be ashamed to charge the prices they are charging. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and would never stay there again unless they upgrade the rooms.

Terrible experience. Compensated only by the nice staff. I think they know the hotel is a terrible place and they try to please guests the best they could. The floor tiles at this hotel are stained everywhere. The safety standard is so poor this hotel should not be at Hotels.com. The Hotel starts at the 6th floor of a building... accessed only by an elevator.... the stairwell is locked.. Although there is a guard by the elevator door and the locked stairwell, I am not sure how he will react during an emergency like a fire incident. There is a separate emergency exit.. and that too is locked! and unmanned. Good forbids a fire breaks out.. I will never book at this hotel again and I will never recommend.

Hotel Emerald can be rated as exception.
My stay at Hotel Emerald can be rated as exceptional. The staff is very co-operative and always willing to help going out of their way. The room was very clean, neat , well maintained with daily cleaning by housekeeping staff. The breakfast available was the best one can think about. The access to the City Center and other areas is very convenient with Taxi's readily available at the Hotel Gate at very economical prices. The Restaurant Vista at Level 7 serves the best Indian Dum Biryani. The Hotel GM Mr. Dev. was a great help available all the time and was very kind and humble to inquire about my stay and also helped in several ways related to my work in Kenya. Finally choosing Hotel Emerald was a very right decision getting a best deal which was truly value for the money spent. The stay at Hotel Emerald was the exceptionally best experience.

Good location
It is close to Casino Flamingo which provides buffet lunch and buffet dinner for free if you register to be a member. The security is very good. Breakfast is basic. Get a taxi to the airport in the street at 20USD or the hotel will charge you 30USD if you call a taxi through the hotel.

Review retraction!
Gave this hotel a poor review on another site. Adjacent nightclub prevented sleep, restaurant either fantastic or very poor, plumbing was a little unpredictable. Street site dubious. HOWEVER, the kindest, most accommodating staff you could ever ask for! Stood on their heads for us, moved us to a room that was 100% better than the noisy room we had earlier in the week. ASK FOR A ROOM IN THE BACK, far away from the front desk where the nightclub shakes your bed all night long. QUIET suite for our last night that was really terrific. Still not what we'd call a 3 or 3.5 star hotel in U.S. but proximity to shops (malls) was really great, it felt safe, great beds, clean bedding, mosquito nets, and again, the nicest staff you will ever meet. That alone gives it extra stars! I still think a little pricey for the condition of the hotel but with this kind of staff attention to your needs, perhaps it deserves it! I actually miss the great staff we met there and would go back, now that I know to ask for the quiet rooms in the back (some have kitchenettes and balconies). Amazing nightclub/restaurant 2 doors down with great food/ambiance/bar. Easy location to catch an Uber to town (you have to tip with cash for Ubers in Kenya but we had terrific Uber service there).

Abysmal sleep conditions
Night club one floor off rooms blasted til 4 am each night. So loud it set off car alarms below all night long. Weekends worst but pounding music shook room windows every night. Beds very good and staff wonderful but incredibly over priced ($120 first room had small double beds, toilet only flushed properly if we poured water in with a cup, floors were not clean). Negotiated a lower rate but the blaring night club made this the worst hotel stay I have had (I am used to youth hostels, camping, trekking as well as top notch hotels). Staff here rate a 4 (Isaac, Simon, Chelsea, Peter), room a 2.5 (broken fixtures in bathrooms & erratic plumbing), free breakfast a 2, dinners a mixed bag from terrible to wonderful, ability to sleep was 0-1. Unbelievable. Such a shame. How did this place get such high ratings if you can't sleep?

Great value in the middle of Westlands
For the price, Hotel Emerald is a great deal to stay in the Westlands district of Nairobi. Most of the hotels in the area were charging twice the price. So I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. I was offered a free juice when I arrived which was greatly appreciated after the long journey. The room was clean and spacious with a very comfy bed and instantly warm shower. There was a TV with many channels. The staff were excellent! Really went the extra mile to accommodate me, and were always warm and friendly. The only negative would be that the hotel restaurant wasn't all that great, though at least they had a wide range of choice. If you are looking to stay in Westlands, this is a great choice if you don't want to spend too much.

Nice hotel but over loud nightclub
The hotel is clean and has good facilities but we were staying on a Friday and the nightclub which is 4 floors below was extremely loud and we were unable to sleep til late. The restaurant is good with nice food.

Great value
The hotel is a lot cheaper then most in this neighbourhood, still quite adequate, safe and of very descent quality. The difference in price is much greater then the difference in quality. Excellent choice for a business trip if you don't have to impress partners with flashy hotel.

Average Hotel with Good Location
The Entrance of the hotel is bad and reception is at 6th Floor. The Restaurant food and Breakfast was good. Badly maintained Bathrooms .

Brilliant staff but poorly maintained property
Pros Good location, excellent staff, spacious room, hot shower, free Wi-fi in rooms and lobby Cons Poorly maintained, tired property, only recommended for backpackers or those on a tight budget. Businessmen - please steer clear of this hotel. The nightclub on 4th floor is extremely noisy. Elevators break down too often. No standby generators (frequent power outages). One-way airport transfer costs almost 50% of room rate (!!) and driver will make you walk 2 km from arrivals lounge to the parked car. Advertised across the Internet as 4-star, but turned out to be a 3-star (actually hardly 1-star).

Neat hotel
It was great. The hotel was hard to find and the staff do not know how to direct people to the hotel. In general it was a good stay. I will come again.
