Aftands hotel (eerder motel), niet meer aangepast aan hedendaags normen. Slechts één trage lift beschikbaar voor 32 verdiepingen en 150 kamers, de tweede lift was gedurende volledige verblijf defect (6 dagen). Slechts een 50-tal ontbijtplaatsen, waardoor ontbijt nemen bijna onmogelijk was. Resultaat: lange wachtrijen aan lift en in kleine lobby. Kamer: zeer smalle bedden in, toilet dat continu doorspoelde, defecte airco, gescheurde gordijnen. Er werd slechts 1 keer gepoetst op 6 dagen. Zeker geen 2-3 sterren noch aanbeveling waard.

Wij hebben dit hotel gekozen met als doel: relatief goedkoop goede ligging goede nachtrust. Deze doelen werden vrij goed ingelost. Onze kamers bevonden zich op het 19e verdiep, dit was ver genoeg van de straat om hier geen last van te ondervinden. De bedden waren goed, maar de hygiëne op de kamer liet eerder te wensen over. Toen we voor het eerst op de kamer toekwamen vonden we enkele stukken WC papier naast het bed op de grond. Ook de airco leek niet super onderhouden te zijn aan de muffe lucht die er uit kwam. De badkamer daarentegen was wel netjes gekuist. Op kamer 1 was de kluis defect, hier was het klavier van verdwenen en op kamer 2 was de thermostaat verdwenen. Bij het inchecken op woensdag werd ons verteld dat we donderdag mochten laten weten wanneer er vrijdag gekuist mocht worden op de kamers. Toen we donderdag een tijdstip doorgaven, werd er verteld dat we dit pas een dag later mochten doorgeven? De dag erop probeerden ze dit NOG een keertje uit te stellen maar hier hebben we toch een stokje voor kunnen steken. Het ontbijt was niet super uitgebreid, maar wel dit hadden we ook verwacht na het lezen van de reviews vooraf. Het aanwezige eten was wel lekker. Zou ik dit hotel opnieuw boeken? Misschien, afhankelijk van de prijs. Op de tijd van boeken was dit gezien de ligging wel de beste optie. Al bij al was het nog wel redelijk, al hadden wij de indruk dat er te weinig personeel was om het werk rond te krijgen (in de keuken, en om de kamers te kuisen).

The check in was a breeze. However the stay was a different case. The bathroom ceiling was leaking. They moved us to another room but that room was worse. The main door didn’t shut close, there was an opening a gap about an inch which made us feel unsafe. Secondly we couldn’t use the fridge for two days because it didn’t close properly and built up a block of ice. The surrounding area is sketchy, a lot of homeless and drug users. The staff was friendly but the facility needs major improvement.

We enjoyed our stay in NYC and at the Hampton South Manhattan location. Like other reviews, the rooms have very limited walking space, but that is to be expected in the NYC highrises. The elevator lines were long a few times, during peak times, but they moved fast and was not a problem; it just required practicing a little patience. We had some issues with housekeeping coming in when we had "do not disturb" door hanger up and walking in without warning at 5:30pm. Next time we would just keep the latch attached on the door while inside at all times. Breakfast was busy, but a well-oiled machine. Staff was present, keeping food area clean and full, immediately cleaning tables when they were unoccupied so others could sit quickly. Subway was a 2-3 block walk. We felt safe. There is a nice little pub next day, The Joyce Public House, which we went to two nights when it was storming really bad and we did not want to venture too far out.

When I arrived I noticed a long line to check in and only one person running the desk. The lobby was small, and a little cramped. There were families with children waiting for a long time to check in. I finally checked in and there was a line for the elevators. They were taking a long time. When I got to my room, the electronic key did not work. Maintenance was called and let me in, that said they took a long while to replace the keys. The breakfast in the morning had cold omletes sitting in a warm silver tray. Who knows how long they were sitting there. I do not not recommend this particular Hampton Inn, it's the one near Times Squton 39th Street.
