Dit hotel is vergane glorie: oudbollige badkamer met schimmel en lekkende kranen. Warm water werd gedurende ons verblijf een middag afgesloten, om 11pm werden onderhoudstimmerwerken uitgevoerd onder onze kamer. Onze kamer met heuveluitzicht bleek uit te geven op een golfplatenafdak met satellietschotels. Kortom een teleurstellende ervaring, De heerlijke fietstocht met onze gids Hassan daarentegen was een unieke beleving en het enige hoogtepunt van ons verblijf.

It's a trip back into an imperial past, that is now open to many. High ceilings, a mix of wood floor and thick carpets, and staff in a range of uniforms. The level of English is good (sadly, my poor French wasn't up to the task of testing the staffs'). There is a good selection of eateries ranging from 'stuff yourself silly' to light bites. I highly recommend the Thai restaurant downstairs. I would avoid the coffee shop, where I was unsuccessful in attempting to buy over-priced cakes to take out - after the guy "serving" me walked off twice, to deal with other people, I decided that two can play the walking away game. So, overall good, if uneven.

A lovely comfortable stay
A really lovely stay in a comfortable, clean hotel. The swimming pool is amazing and the gym is good too. Our room was very comfy and we had a good night sleep. The evening buffet and breakfast were also really nice.

Beautiful old hotel….Indian restaurant was the best.. High tea service not great…people walking through restaurant always and service was inattentive.

We weren't please with the way we been treated by the staff and the conditions of the rooms given because first room we were given (Room 258) had a blocked toilet and we were given that room by the staff member knowingly that room had issues by the reception staff member because he told me that when I went for the checkout next day morning! In the middle of the night they moved us to Room 353 and it had NO COLD water therefore my husband had several burnt spots on his back which wasn't at all good. They weren't even apologized for what happened!!! After we left we we received email from Chinthana Bandara, Hotel Operations Manager, The Grand Hotel with incorrect information therefore I wrote to him BUT had no response from him yet... Not recommend this hotel unless they repair the hotel rooms up to the required standards

The only thing wrong with this hotel is its dark and gloomy interior with heavy dated furniture. This is meant to reflect its old colonial history - and it does - to my mind it’s overdone. An exception is the glorious light and beautiful indoor swimming pool. The staff are lovely and the food good, especially in the Thai Grand restaurant where it is outstanding. However, the ritual high tea which is famous is rather disappointing.

Wir waren diese Jahr 4 Nächte im Grand Hotel weil wir es richtig genießen wollte und das haben wir. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen. Das Zimmer war groß und sehr sauber. Alle waren sehr freundlich und immer hilfsbereit. Der Garten ist wunderschön und läd zum verweilen in der Sonne ein, ein Getränk, Füße hoch und einfach genießen, perfekt. Das Frühstück war sehr gut und frisch zubereitet. Abends waren wir vor oder nach dem Essen in der Bar bei Kaminfeuer und einem Getränk, super. Das Essen im Restaurant Magnolie war sehr gut. Tolles Hotel, very british", alt und stilvoll, uns hat es sehr gefallen. 👍

Tanken är god men de når inte i mål
Vi upplevde incheckningen som välmenad men det blev lite rörigt. Personalen hade ingen koll på vilka som fått te och kaka och inte, det stod väldigt många urdruckna koppar på bordet vi blev tillvisade och det tog lång tid innan det blev undanplockat så vi satt där bland massa disk. Sängen var väldigt skön, och det var skönt med varmvatten i dusch och handfat men i duschen var det väldigt svårt att få in en vettig temperatur. Antingen skållhett eller kallt. Inredningen i badrummet kändes uppsatt av en amatör med sneda hyllor och kletig latexfog runt hela handfatet. Frukosten var väldigt god och stort utbud, men helt ologiskt placerad och utspridd vilket gjorde att saker kallnade medan man letade tillbehör (tex ägg i ett rum och korv/bacon/vita bönor som man vill ha till ägg var i ett annat rum, rostbröd stod i ena änden av rummet och pålägg på ett helt annat). Detta gjorde att man fick leta frukost väldigt länge så jag och min partner hann inte äta frukosten tillsammans för någon av oss var alltid iväg och letade). Vid high tea spelades live julmusik med en kör. Även detta välmenat men alldeles för hög ljudnivå. Inte en mysig testund. Vid utcheckning hade de lagt till en barnota som inte var våran och som vi inte hade signerat. Vidare tog de betalt för rummet en gång till trots att vi hade betalat detta i förskott. Vi upptäckte detta själva och de fick göra en retur. Överlag bra för att vara lankesisk standard

It’s a beautiful old world hotel with character. The rooms are dated and the insulation between rooms is poor , you here sound and bathroom water sounds from the room next door and above. Service in the restaurants can be more attentive.

Wonderful Time

施設、お庭、全てに手入れが行き届いている素晴らしいホテルでした。ホテルの周りにはどこでもお花が咲いていて、気分良く散歩できました。日本人客は私一人のようでしたが国旗を立ててくれてて嬉しかったです。そこまで宿泊料金も高くないのでスリランカに行った時にはまた泊まりたいです。

If you want the full colonial experience, this is the place. It is better than Singapore's Raffles as Raffles has been clinically updated while keeping the false facade of period features. The Grand Hotel has the full works, from staff, room, facilities and a large selection of scrumptious food. Our stay here was thoroughly enjoyable. Every aspect was faultless.

nice location in Nuwara Eliya and lovely old hotel building. Gym has air con and good equipment, also pool and spa. lovely fruit and chocolates on arrival, indian restaurant great and afternoon tea an experience. I was slightly surprise not to have shower gel refilled when i had used a lot having 3 showers on my first day.

It was supposed to be the highlight of our 2-week trip around Sri Lanka, 2 nights at The Grand Hotel. It certainly wasn't. Rude, indifferent staff, poor service and so-so rooms. Yes, the grounds are beautiful and the restaurants are best in class, but there is nothing warm, welcoming or special about this place. A miscommunication with Expedia meant that my booking wasn't received by the hotel but instead of trying to resolve the issue, the front desk told me to "solve my own problem". When I brought this up to the manager, he didn't apologise but said it happened so often that the staff couldn't handle it. There was no apology and no attempt to make amends for the lapse in customer service. The attitude here is "take it or leave it", and my advice is to avoid this hotel like the plague.

Our room was not available until well after an hour of the stated check in time. The room we were allocated did not match what we had booked. The hotel was very busy due to the holiday season and the staff were inadequacy trained to cope. The discount offered through the Expedia booking was disputed at check out. The hotel is a magnificent property however has serious staffing issues that need to be addressed. There was no security at the hotel and with many tourists walking through the property that are not house guests this is unacceptable in the current climate. A frustrating stay indeed.
