The front desk host was very nice and let us check out the room before we officially checked in. However, the room was not sustainable to stay in. It smelled of cigarette smoke and there was black mold accompanied by stains on the floors, walls, and bathroom. We quickly decided to not stay here and let the front desk know. She said that was fine and to contact Expedia since the stay was booked through them. After contacting Expedia and explaining this they blamed the hotel saying the hotel had to cancel the reservation first before we could receive our refund and that they couldn’t do anything. The hotel explained since the booking was through Expedia that Expedia needed to first cancel the reservation and there was nothing she could do on her end, even showing us on the computer. Expedia continued to say the hotel just wasn’t approving the refund as we stood in the hotel lobby with the attendant saying the opposite. She was understanding and helpful. Expedia was not. I was told from Expedia we basically had no options even though we never checked into the hotel and there was nothing they could do. This experience was aggravating and nothing sort of stressful. Why would I continue to book through Expedia when I could of just dealt with the hotel directly and completely avoided this? We even purchased the protection plan.
