Have visited Amador County several times per year for the last 7-8 years. This time brought friends whom had never been to the area and we wanted a house for evening cooking, games, socializing and visiting for the 5 of us. Have never traveled with these friends before, so privacy and convenience were key. We wanted to show them the best of the region!
There are several outstanding things about this home to note:
1. Built in late 1800's - historic, but updated for modern conveniences. Kitchen and bathrooms were outstanding - showers were rainfall with great water pressure, all white towels - as nice as a fine hotel or B&B.
2. All 3 bedrooms have their own separate bathroom.
Downstairs master is king bed (with an additional same room murphy bed if needed). Linens are nice quality, king bed was firm yet very comfortable. Upstairs 2 queen bedrooms with private full baths - claw foot tubs and separate modern large showers in each. Our friends stayed upstairs and said the beds were comfortable, the house quiet and private. All the bedrooms have ceiling fans which is a nice feature.
3. Kitchen - well stocked with everything you need to cook - we had some foodies in our group: we grilled, broiled, microwaved - everything you need - blender, dishwasher, even basic staples like olive oil, spices, aluminum foil. Ice maker in freezer. There was NOTHING we were without.
4. Location! If you are wine touring Amador County, this house is smack dab in the middle of the primary and best wineries. It was a hot weekend (100 degrees) and the proximity was key - we would buy wine and having passed the house several times between wineries, could drop off the wine at the house so we didn't have it sitting boiling in a hot car in the heat this was convenient!
5. The owners - Cheryl and Dan. Exceptional people. We learned at several wineries that they are well known in the area and support the community. It was nice to hear how well-liked they are. The Owners are meticulous, but easy going, and not intrusive whatsoever.
There is a natural artesian well that runs under the house and pumps out into the back of the 1 acre property, else it would flood the basement, I was told. However, it did draw little "gnats" to the BACK of house, so be sure to keep the back kitchen door closed at dusk and later-NOT biting bugs, tiny, just a little pesky. Evenings spent on FRONT porch in rocking and adirondack chairs was exceptional.
