4 stars for design, 2 stars for service
- Nice room design, comfy bed, modern bathroom, but service is rather like a 2-star hotel:
- There was NO housekeeping during my one-week stay. I learned AFTER checking in that they service the room every 3 days. In reality, they made the bed on day 4 and never showed up again, so no one cleaned the bathroom, & dust was piling up on the floor!
- bath towel is so small & thin that it gets soaked quickly.
- Reception staff claimed these practices are for environmental reasons… while I fully support hotels that operate sustainably, tidying the bed only ONCE in a week-long stay is NOT about sustainability, and all to do with being cheap!
- the heat was almost 30C across common areas & it was impossible to turn it off in the room: hot air pumped non-stop to the point I had a constant cough and injured my lungs! When I asked reception for help, they claimed there is ONE setting across the hotel. Not sure how that is consistent with the hotel’s claim for being sustainable?
- Lastly, while most hotels provide mini-fridge, kettle & tea & coffee, MaMaison does not offer those apparently for “safety” reasons. Rather they suggested to buy hot drinks at the bar... so they are just being cheap and trying to milk guests for every penny.
While reception staff tried to fix the problems, they had no authority and no means to provide the solution that best meets basic guest expectations; they were very apologetic & admitted the hotel had serious issues.
