I was born and raised in Rockford, so I have a pretty high tolerance for most people and really any type of situation.—
I booked through Expedia for a 6 night stay. The first room clearly needed a deep clean, with sticky residue on furniture and what looked like mouse droppings.
Around 10pm on my first night (7 hours after I booked into my room) I heard rustling noises. I discovered a stray cat inside my locked second-floor room. I still have no explanation for how the cat got in, I think it was abandoned. The staff wouldn’t answer my questions about if anyone stayed in that room recently.
I called the front desk six times. No answer. Expedia also tried calling with no response. I stood outside in 30° weather for about 45 minutes waiting for help.
When staff finally arrived, they attempted to remove the cat. I ultimately trapped it myself. I was moved to another room with no apology or explanation. The second room had a broken TV and a leaking refrigerator.
During my stay, I saw what appeared to be a crack pipe in the stairwell and a syringe in the parking lot, along with frequent yelling from long-term guests.
For the price paid, this stay did not meet basic safety or cleanliness standards. The property may have potential, but it needs better staffing, management, and cleaning practices.
I expected basic functionality and safety. This motel failed to provide either.
