'Location excellent, staff well trained and excellent. Room was very good. Outside area had great views but some stained seat covers and lots of cracked tiles. Spa was a waste of time as very busy and ended up just sitting in pool as all the jacuzzi areas full. Spa had lots of loose tiles around pool too. Breakfast was excellent. Cheeky £12 per day add on for parking your car in already overpriced hotel. Not quite 5 star but I think this is a self awarded rating and not AA affiliated.'

'We booked Holbeck Ghyll as a special treat after two days of walking in the Lake District and were genuinely looking forward to it. The reality was a serious disappointment. The room was in a poor state of repair: mould on the bathroom ceiling, rusted window frames, failing grout and sealant with black mould in the tile joints, and paint peeling throughout the bathroom. These are not superficial issues — they represent basic maintenance failures that should not exist in any hotel, let alone one...

'We enjoyed the bell tent and tipi we had for the night. The children wanted to know why they heard sheep bleating in the field next door - it was late, but the noise level was peaceful. Just mamas checking in on their lambs, I'm guessing. Lovely for going to sleep by. The kitchen was properly outfitted for a place of this sort and made feeding our family cheap and easy. We had to be split up for fire safety (six children), but that would be the case for a Travelodge or something and then...

'Excellent hotel with friendly staff, great breakfast, a fan in the room to help with the hot weather. Good tea and coffee. Free parking and a great view of the Lake, close to Ambleside and from the room the mountains were clearly visible. Fantastic!!'

'Absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is lovely, the spa is amazing, definitely worth booking in for the full spa 3 hours, the food is good but to be honest it’s the staff that make it. Such a lovely bunch!'

'The stay at the cottage was good. It is positioned on a busy road but it quiets down later at night. There is a shop at the petrol station that has everything you will need for the stay and close to bus tops to take to Ambleside and Windermere. The beds are on the soft side but not uncomfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped but he had to buy paper kitchen towels, bin bags and dishwasher tablets. All in all, our stay was great. We would stay here again. '
