'I stayed 1 night to explore the surrounding World Heritage villages and it was amazing. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. I had dinner and breakfast and both were plentiful and delicious. We were offered rides to the villages and given guidance on how to take the bus as well. I highly recommend staying here to enjoy the Japanese Alps'

The surrounding countryside is MAGNIFICENT with beautiful bridges connecting the steep sides of the river gorge. Lovely rice paddies and super friendly townspeople. Visiting the”Gasso” villages nearby was a highlight as was taking walks around the area. '

'My spouse and I were on vacation with our adult son. This was our favorite hotel in Japan (out of the six hotels we stayed at). It's not the easiest to get to - the hotel's shuttle times are limited (otherwise it's a 30 minute walk from the bus station; no taxis in town), but you can leave luggage in lockers or other paid storage at Shirakawa-go bus station (which is what we did).
