Raise your hand if you – like me – would never have guessed that this is… Greece! 🙋‍♀️ It was a steep but not too long hike up the mountains to get to Astraka refuge. We had great weather on the way up but it took a turn for the worse, so we dropped our stuff off in the refuge, had lunch, and waited. My legs were tired and I was so cold in the cabin so I really wasn’t feeling like getting out again to hike a bit more to get to Drakolimni/Dragon Lake but the skies cleared up again so I just couldn’t stay inside. And I was very happy I didn’t because the views were absolutely a m a z i n g. I mean I knew Greece is beautiful but I barely knew there are hikes to be done there, let alone with this kind of views. Arta Bridge - A bridge over the Arachos River in the city of Arta. The construction of the bridge dates back to the era of Despotat, but the current appearance by 1602. According to legend, every day 60 students and 45 craftsmen under the guidance of the chief builder tried to build a bridge, but it fell every night. Finally, a bird with a human voice told the chief builder that in order for the bridge to stand, he had to sacrifice his spouse. When the wife was walled up, she first cursed, but then finished with blessings.
