It’s an old historic hotel, the decor is very dated and could do with a refresh, however the hotel is clean. We stayed in a standard double with en suite. Because of the CV restrictions the room was not serviced , if you need any tea/ coffee, loo roll or fresh towels ask at reception and they are happy to help.
Our bedroom was average, my wife thought it was small, the bathroom was ok, bath was a little small but plenty of hot water.
There is no air con in the room the windows are sash type and did not stay open without being propped up. The rooms face a busy road and this became noises about 6am.
Breakfast was really good with good service by some of the staff.
The evening menu is not great, we eat there our first night and it was not great, we did not eat there again, the prices were a bit expensive but not excessive. There are some really nice pubs 5 mins walk away that do much better food.
We did not use the leisure facilities but the pool looked nice.
They are using some of the car park as an outside bar area, which limits parking.
Finally the staff, most of them were great, especially the younger ones in the restaurant, even the cleaners were friendly and helpful, but there was a male member of staff possibly a manager with no personality or people skills borderline rude.
We stayed 3 nights, and it was no more than just OK, would we stay there again, well that’s easy, NO
