I have to preface this review with the fact it was awful weather - not their fault but they need to do better with proper rainy day activities We are DINKs in our early 50s. We chose the Shangrila because of the adults only section - the Reef Wing. Don’t. Unless you are travelling with kids, don’t come here. The Reef wing is on the windy side of the island so the pool was virtually unusable even on the one nice day we got. The ‘adults only’ beach is on the horse trekking path so you are constantly surrounded by kids anyway. The Reef bar is low ceilinged and dark. Made 1000 times worse in bad weather when they had to shut the blinds and shutters. Not enough room for guests in bad weather. Cocktail hour was ok - the hors d’oeuvres were spectacular. But in the rain - nothing to do. Wheel out a roulette table or play bingo or a quiz. Anything. It was so awkward and uncomfortable. We were lucky to be on the top floor of the Reef wing so had a lovely high ceiling. I imagine the other rooms were dark and suffocating without it. The cleanliness was good but, seriously, 1 ply toilet paper in a 5star resort? No! Food - 5 different restaurants. 3 serve breakfast … but the same breakfast. No variety. Dinners were ok but not the 5star WOW we hoped for. Pros: free paddle boards and kayaks. Nice swimming beach by the main kids pool. Final notes: not 5star. not an adults only destination. The larger resort seemed to lose the famed Fijian hospitality. We were a number. Such a shame.
